The Xbox controller S sucks for racing games....

I just bought NFS: Most Wanted and the only decent control scheme places the acceleration button on the right trigger. Now, after multiple Xbox racing games, I'm sick and tired of having to exert so much strength to keep the right trigger full depressed. I still remember getting wrist pain after having a long session of Burnout 3 in the past. Now my entire right arm feels weak after having a long session of NFS: MW. The goddamn shoulder buttons of the controller just take too much strength to fully depress and hold there. Someone tell me that this is changed in the 360's controller....

triggers are softer on the 360. My hand still gets sore and cramped up after a long NFS:MW session though. But no where near as bad on when I would play Forza on the xbox.

Seriously.. when I can't practice the piano, I use these things. Forza was no problem whatsoever.

The fact is that I am already having some wrist problems that was brought on by some excessive BG2 playtime on the PC some years ago. The problem never went away and I'm now stuck with permanently using a wrist rest whenever I'm using the mouse.

The Xbox controller's shoulder button only exacerbates the problem for me. Maybe it's cause my hands are small which forces me to exert more effort to keep the trigger fully depressed.

If your hand was already injured, then it shouldn't be surprising that you find it harder than most people would.. and the size of your hand does, indeed, mean you get less leverage as well.

WTF?!

Racing games *demand* analog triggers. A real gas pedal isn't an on/off switch after all.

And besides, how can you get fatigue from holding the trigger down? Is that the only physical activity you do, using a controller?

edit:

Sounds like carpal tunnel syndrome. If it's not too serious yet, your doctor can give you a shot that will reduce the swelling and pain.

:lol

I do have those things but I think it's ridiculous having to do some workout just to play a damn game.

And while I may be skinny and not in the best of shape, I'm definitely not a weakling. I went through two and a half years in the military for fuck's sake. So all your claims of me being weak are not valid.

You probaly have small hands , I have a titanium plate and 5 screws in my right hand and I dont have any problems what so ever but my fingers are pretty long

Then I can give you a tip I learned playing the piano: let your hand relax, even if it's only for an instant. If you just hold it down like a claw all the time, of course it's going to get stiff and sore. It's the same thing at the piano - there's a Chopin etude where I have to play nonstop octaves in both hands for almost 2 minutes straight. The only way I can get through it is to take advantage of split-second opportunities when my hands are flying through the air to relax, then almost instantaneously re-tighten.

While that is a valid comment, but in ANY racing games, do you even have the need to keep the trigger half-depressed? Isn't it all about flooring it?

Hmmm, I'll give it a shot.

In arcade racers, maybe. Some series like Project Gotham Racing demand more control. It's not about flooring the brakes and then hitting the gas. Sometimes you can make some great corners just by letting up on the gas a little.

I find myself tapping the gas even in NFS:MW. My PC controller doesn't have triggers and is basically a copy of the DualShock controller.

For games like RR and Burnout it doesn't really matter, but for stuff like Forza, if you want to play it well, it might be usefull (not sure here since I'm not into sim racers).

:lol

I think you're pressing the button too hard maybe (I hope at least). Like you press it all the way, but then press harder without realising it (maybe b/c the game is exciting or something), unnecessarily straining your arm.

Your arm...

Man that's fucked up :lol I've never had problems with triggers/racing games, and yeah I've had my PGR runs!

I sure hope you have a big dick or a talented tongue, cause no way in hell you gonna please your woman with your pathetically weak fingers...

Ahhh, fortunately, I have both.

Oh, and I don't think it takes strong fingers to "please" a woman. They seem to prefer it gentle and soft instead of rough and hard....

the problem is that you are a weakling.

Wait, you say you have small hands, and yet claim to have a big dick? Studies show that that doesn't add up.... :D :lol :lol

Seriously man, you really set yourself up for this.....

Play Farenheit/Indigo Prophecy with it's crazy endurance trigger sequences. It will soon strengthen those trigger finger muscles. Failing that, have a wank.

I also found holding the controller S triggers to be painful/tiring for long periods of time. You don't realize how crappy the S really was until you pick up a 360 controller.

Jack off more often. Build muscles.

In all fairness to the OP; using a crooked finger to simulate the gas pedal is somewhat less natural than using a thumb on a analog button to simulate the gas pedal.

I don't see how using the thumb is anymore natural then using the forefinger...neither body part is close to the foot.

:lol. I have no idea what "studies" you're referring to but I hope you are aware of the concept of EXCEPTIONS, assuming that the "studies" you're referring to do in fact exist.

And I can't believe how many people have jumped on me claiming I'm weak and all. Goddamn, I have probably been through a lot more physically-demanding and challenging activities than 90% of you pussies criticising me. I kayaked/canoed for my school team when I was in high school, for fuck's sake. And I was in the goddamn military for 2.5 years of my life. Oh, and I'm not from the US, BTW.

Besides, I'm not the only one in this thread complaining of the stiffness of the Controller S triggers.

I guess because the thumb like the foot is exerting a downward pressure while remaining straight (in a normal position).

Well, the Duke sucks a lot worse. The triggers took like twice as much presure to keep down. I absolutely hated that about the Duke. I practically wore my right finger out playing PGR1. Luckily, they cattered to the Japanese and designed a decent controller.
