The Xbox One How To & Tips Thread

Pro tip:

I had something happen after viewing the Ryse DLC in the store (via the in-game menu) that the store from the dashboard would always boot into that. Going back just dropped into the dashboard rather than the main store. I was trying to redeem a code (without Kinect set up yet). The work-around is very simple: from the main dashboard, just click on the big "games" pin on the right-hand section. Now that I know the trick, I don't really care, but it was still a frustrating situation at the time.
 
Someone was asking this earlier, but some games do allow you to adjust overscan.. did it in the Ryse in-game settings.

4 of you playing bf4 use party mode,but turn party chat off, use Skype to talk to everyone together.
 
How do I stream music to the Xbox One from my Windows 7 PC? I've resorted to trying to use a DLNA streaming app on my iPod to act as a middleman but all of the apps (granted, only about three) seem to only play a single song and then I have to manually intervene to play the next. Even playlists don't seem to work properly on the few I have tried (Skifta, ArkMC, something Controller).
 
What settings are you all using??

Rgb full or limited??

And what colour depth??


By the way, if you have strict NAT then there is a list of the 13 ports that need to be forwarded on the net... I will see if I can find them
 
I don't have a second controller yet, but planning to purchase one together with FIFA 14. How do you tell which controller is for player 1,2, etc?

Well it's because you're not American of course. Because disabling this feature makes sense and all.

Anyhow, simply tell your console that you are in the US and you'll be able to use "Xbox On" as well as control your TV.

Is there a downside to this? I changed it and the functionality is awesome but is it something I should keep set to US?
 
Someone please help me with this. How does multiplayer parties work? It seems different for every game. For example, in Forza someone in the party has to join a lobby and the other members of the party get a notification to join. In Battlefield, I still have no idea how to do it. This is one of my biggest complaints.

Also, it seems like I can't be in a party where I'm playing killer instinct online while my friends are playing another game. I get an error saying my party is too big. Any idea on that?
 
I have had the stupidest problem. In the store I went to download Xbox video and I was stuck on the details page. Going back just put me at the home menu and it remembered the damn screen after reboot. How do you navigate out of the details page and stay in the store app?

oh,
same happened to me. I went to download some app and changed my mind, but I couldn't for the life of me go back to the previous page of the store. I wasn't able to exit the page without exiting to home, and store would always bring me to that app details page.
 
Does anybody know how to get scores in the ESPN app? When watching the intro video I see 4 options in the settings menu: favorite sports, favorite teams, watchespn, and scores. But in my own settings menu, I only see the first three.
 
Streaming content from your PC is available on the One via DLNA. I do believe you need to check an option in the settings that allow "Play To" devices. Simply open windows media player, right click the movie,show, music etc. and "play to - your device" Note: I just recently moved all of my content into windows media player for sharing purposes on my network. If you want to share with One, it needs to be in your Media Player library. Not sure if there are any alternatives on Mac on Linux.

It is a slight inconvenience, but it does work. Hopefully in the near future there is an app that allows personal content streaming and browsing inside the UI.
 
Has anyone figured out how to use in game chat in cod ghosts with kinect and a headset? I have turtle beaches and planned to just route game chat to my headset then use kinect as a mic. Party chat works great but cod ghost doesn't see you as having a mic in the lobby.

You also can't use your surround headset and the packed in mic around your neck becuase they left out the option to route game chat through your speakers it goes to the cheap mic instead such a simple feature that was available on 360.
 
I want to output sound from Xbox One's Optical port back to my receiver. I do get Xbox One sounds, but I don't get sound from anything that is connected to Xbox's HDMI In. Can this work?


The reason why I do this is because I don't want Xbox to always be on when guests in my house want to watch TV. The Xbox does not seem to have HDMI pass-through. My Directv is connected to Receiver which has two HDMI Outs. Out #1 goes to Xbox One, and Out #2 goes directly to my TV.
 
Here's how to get your Xbox One to call you anything you want when you sign in and out (i.e. "Hi [name here]"):

Log in to your account here, then edit the Display Name. It took a few minutes to take effect once I did it, but it works.

EDIT: Odd that you can't do this on xbox.com, which is why I bothered posting it. It's not as obvious/intuitive as it should be, IMO.
 
2 questions X1 bros.

1) Can you play a game (like KI) while a disc game is installing?
2) I thought I had turned the x1 off completely last night and expected that 2 minute cold boot up deal this morning. However, it came back on super quick. For curiosity purposes, how do you get it to turn fully off?

Ok, that's pretty awesome.

My tip: use the start button everywhere. It brings up sum menus for just about every app, game and service. It's how you go deeper into the UI. Learn it.

There is a settings for that in FIFA 14 I think. It basically toggles if the referee can hear what you say or not.

I have a tip for everyone who has "instant-on" and want to turn their Xbox completely off for example during the night.

Power cycle your Xbox One console
Follow these steps to power cycle your Xbox One Console:

While the console is on, press and hold the console’s Xbox button for 5 seconds.
The console will power down.
Wait 30 seconds, and then turn your console back on by again pressing the Xbox button.
Note If your console is in Instant-On power mode, the above steps will shut the console completely off. Instant-On mode, or the ability to turn on your console by saying “Xbox On”, won’t be enabled until you restart the console.

TLDR: "While the console is on, press and hold the console’s Xbox button for 5 seconds."

EDIT: For some reason when I do this the console automatically reboots instead of staying turned off.
 
Thanks for the tips dudes.

Just curious, does anybody know if you can go completely voice-only for web-browsing? I tried it, and I can't seem to find the right way to select empty search fields. Not to mention there doesn't seem to be a way of voice-to-text like on Xbox Bing (afaik).

How to find demos? Arcade and indie games demos?

On x360 I had my games inverted on default by going to my profile and sett invert for action game.

This way I won't have to go through every game menu to do it.

I can't find that option on X1 :|

Anybody?

Answer to Number 1 is yes. I don't know about number 2.

It seems many universal settings that were on 360 like vibration and inverted are on a game-per-game basis now. To find demos you go home, go to the right and in the bing field type "demo" to find the three demos available right now. There is no such thing as arcade games or indie games, everything is treated in the same way now.

Warning: I'm a new gaffer and my only experience with Metro was on the Xbox 360. So please don't eat me alive if these questions are really dumb...
1. How can I tell how much of my hard drive is used?
2. Also, do I have to change a setting to allow the Xbox to turn on via kinect? Cause I keep saying "Xbox, power on" or "Xbox, turn on" and nothing happens? And I look like an idiot cause it just sits there and stares in to my soul like I'm a fool.

It's "Xbox On" and you need Settings>Power & Startup>Power Mode set to instant-on and check the "wake up xbox by saying xbox on" checkbox ticked. You can't tell how much space is being used. It'll tell you if it starts running low and tell you to uninstall some games or something.
 
I don't have a One yet, getting it soon. Can't find any info on these audio settings:
Does the One bitstream audio over HDMI?
Does it support DTS Master-HD and Dolby TrueHD when watching blurays?
What format are games in if no Dolby? ...DTS?
 
Anyone using the NFL app? It doesn't seem t update scores for me. I was hoping to play some CoD with scores snapped to the side so I could at least know how my team was doing since I couldn't watch their game.
