from EDGE:
EDGE said:"The message is clear, this time Nintendo has made a game unafraid to stand tall beside those two previous titles (OOT, LTTP) widely regarded as the greatest in a series of greats. This is no 'what if' whimsy like the WW or the minish cap. TP is Zelda by the book and there's every sign that it's the most involved, the most ambitious, the just plain biggest zelda there's ever been."
"The sheer amount of content in TP is overwhelming. It throws new skills, items and intriguing twists at you far faster than any zelda before it."
"Epona is no slender pony this time, instead a solid, gigantic, invincible animal."
During the first 6 hours you will have done more than the equivalent of 3 dungeons in on any other zelda game in terms of new items, skills etc.
The first dungeon reminiscent of the forest temple is
"though hardly hard, it's probably as involved and suprising as any other initial zelda dungeon, if not more so."
"you begin to get a sense of the sheer dizzying scope of TP, it threatens to be absolutely immense, an epic seldom rivalled in scale outside the rpg form (and never by another launch game) and loaded heavier than ever with items, details and possibilities as yet unseen in a test that made 6 hours feel like 6 minutes."
"It's almost forbidding, TP is certainly no populist rethink of zelda, in tune with the popular all cuddly all access Wii. It is instead an all guns blazing assault on the hardcore, a fanboys wet dream (if there's any worry at all it's that it might overburden itself)"
"That's reflected in the involved controls of the wii version, though not as off putting as the E3 demo, when introduced and gradually relaxed into over time, they are delicate, sometimes demanding and occasionally frustraing. Attack gestures flow beautifully, but are sticky to start and jumping to pointer aiming can be awkward and dis-orientating. However they more than make up for it with tremendous tactile excitement, the shrill thrill of the speaker effects and the very real and seriously welcome freedom and comfort that comes from having your hands attached by 3 feet of wire, not 3 inches of plastic. . Factor in the Wii only widescreen support -no small consideration- and it's clear which version is a must have."
"The questions it answers are the important ones. Is it a challenge? Is it a mystery? Will it make your heart stop? Is it Zelda? Yes, yes, yes and yes."

from the recent interview on nintendo.co.jp, translated by 'the androgyne' or probably his girlfriend or wife:
the androgyne said:The latest (pt2) interview with the younger directors of Zelda on NCL's homepage has a bit to say about the 2 versions - Iwata asks them what they thought of the delay and partly of the decision to make a Wii version.
Seems like it was kind of a 50/50 split amongst staff, many of them thought it'd be great and easier for new people to play, others thought it was designed for GC controller so it would be too difficult to make it seamless on Wii. Take itas you will (i mean, they're not going to say something bad!) - but they mention that many of their testers couldn't believe the game started off as a Gamecube game. (For me, this is how i'm going to approach it, as if i never knew. I dont know how some of you are going to avoid being biased against the Wii version without doing this
Some other stuff...
-Midna wasn't originally in the story - Miyamoto had a problem with the wolf looking boring from behind - so they added a character on top, who later got integrated into the story.
-Apparantly that is what also happened with Mario/Yoshi way back for Super Mario World. They say he was a functional design choice because mario sat correctly on him. They didn't say 'Hey a dinosaur would be cool!' I think this speaks volumes of the way Nintendo designs stuff in a more logical sense, and they mention how it comes from Miyamoto's industrial design background.
-All the staff mention there weren't too many large overhauls (tea table upturnings) from Miyamoto... that they think he was aware of the large stress they had, and huge scope of the game - so he rather changed many little things one at a time ... but they all agree those changes are what has made this Zelda, Zelda.
-The staff writer however, had many changes to the beginning of the game, to make the player ease into the new controls better. Several times she had to stop the localisation team because of Miyamoto making changes! This brings up a couple interesting points... first, i wonder if those changes for easing the player into the controls carry over into the Cube game? If they don't, maybe the Cube version won't flow as nice now...
Or perhaps the 2 games are (a bit) more different (in gameplay/pacing etc) than we've been led to believe?
And secondly, that impressions we get from the game are from people who've just been thrown right into a new control scheme.
I think and hope the haters tune will change once they experience the real pacing of the game!

some info from ONM:
IMPRESSIONS FROM FINAL BUILD
Having clocked up 34 hours (and counting) on the final build of the Wii's 'The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess', I will be posting my impressions on here over the coming weeks leading up to the full review in the next issue of the magazine (on sale 24 Nov).
I'm not going to give too much away right now, but rest assured that this is one hell of a game. I was actually surprised at how little I knew about the game. In a similar fashion to Capcom's treatment of RE4 pre-launch, even the hardcore followers probably only know around 5% of what this game has to offer.
I'm not going to ruin the game for you. If you want storyline info, boss tactics, character names etc then go elsewhere. I'm not going to be responsible for ruining this game for people. The story and character development is more relevant in this game than any other Zelda before it. I'm going to post as few spoilers as possible but here's your first warning:
THIS THREAD CONTAINS SPOILERS. AT THE START OF EVERY SECTION I'LL POST WARNINGS SO YOU KNOW WHETHER OR NOT TO READ ANY FURTHER, HOWEVER FOR MAXIMUM ENJOYMENT I WOULDN'T ADVISE READING ANY OF IT!
So, look out for my impressions, and Video Vault updates when the relevant dates arrive. The first one will be very soon.
When the first impressions go up I'll unlock this thread so that you can ask questions. Don't fill this thread with nonsense and speculation. I'll answer what I'm allowed to and only stuff that won't ruin the experience for everyone else. If this thread gets abused I'll lock it and will stop answering questions. Simple as.
i'm not posting the link to that topic on their forum. it's obviously full of spoilers. search for it and visit at your own risk.

another kinda interesting quote from the same interview. (not sure who translated this or where it's from)
Iwata Mention Zelda and people will often say that it's hard-core, a traditional gamer's game, but it's actually completely crammed with these silly things! (laughs)
Kyogoku That's right! (laughs) But things can get out of hand if you overdo it. On the other hand, if we don't put enough of these things in the game, Miyamoto-san will always notice it and send an e-mail saying something like: "I went to all the trouble of trying this in the game and I was sad because I didn't get a new reaction from any of the characters in the game." I called these his "sob story e-mails".
Iwata "Sob story e-mails"! (laughs)

finally some real information from jeremy parish
Parish @ 1up said:When I arrived at NOA this morning, I discovered Nintendo had created a Mii of... me. And some other people. It was a little weird! But now they've gone and chased us away from their nice clean headquarters, and we're all sad. Sad like junkies suddenly cut off from a wonderful drug.
But I managed to swipe copies of Elite Beat Agents and FFV Advance before they kicked us out, so I guess the last laugh is on me. Or maybe not, since we're not allowed to talk about how awesome how terrible pretty much anything about Zelda until the end of the week. Four days! That's, like, forever on this Internet thing.
I think I'm allowed to say that I'm really, really impressed. Maybe? If not, forget I mentioned it.
Today marks the longest amount of time I've used the Wii controller (nearly six hours straight), and I have to say I really love it. The nunchuk attachment is the incarnation of a controller concept I've always wanted to see but never thought I would: the lazy man's controller. When you're slouching through a ten-hour gameplay session, it's really kinda weird to hold your hands close together in your lap and far more natural to just let them fall to side, which the nunchuk allows. I do think playing more traditional games with the Wiimote is going to be a little intimidating for casual gamers, but compared to a PC game where practically every QWERTY key is mapped to some function or another it seems pretty simple.

part 3 of the interview, translated and summarized by androgyne's other girlfriend
the androgyne said:Ok so here's some summaries from part 3. Part 2 is in the first post, Part 1 is already translated on the UK/US site i believe.
One thing's for sure, these guys are definitely 3d Zelda veterans! The bulk of their back catalog is Zelda but some also worked on Super Mario Sunshine and Pikmin 2.
Basically they're talking about shaping Zelda and the difficulties of development.. they keep reiterating how large a project it is. Senior people from previous Zelda's had to move up into even higher positions to manage, as the amount of people was much bigger than Wind Waker. Because there's so many people, they had so many differing opinions, and it was hard because everyone was so passionate about their ideas. They even outsourced some (art) work this time and that was another difficulty - normally they could talk to someone next to them about what they needed, but now that communication was harder.
They say the director of the game comes up with a broad idea for the game, the main steps the player will take in the story etc. And from there, they try and include the interesting things.. but this time, rather than trying to get an expression of the game on paper before creating it... much of the theme or expression that of Twilight Princess was presented by the art team (in the form of a illustration or something), who felt this was needed to get everyone on the same playing field as such. From here, everyone had a clear idea.. dungeons should be like this, the the feel should be like that etc.
The E3'04 trailer was put together by the localisation team in the US (someone there is very good with camera angles they say). It turns out, they were expecting screaming reactions, but not expecting anyone to cry! The positive reaction gave the developers support during hard times, knowing that the game was eagerly anticipated and well received after the showing.
(They don't say it, but basically, you whinger's can only blame yourself for Wind Waker's half-finishedness now! If only you'd acted excited at Spaceworld '01, they might have been more encouraged to make it better!)
Stangely, they were still scared of showing the game at E3'04, mostly Link's design. They were very aware of a (mostly overseas) pressure to develop a realistic style Zelda, but they conciously stayed away from a photorealistic style, as they say something like, the more realistic the look becomes, the more like an unnatural doll Link seems. But they relate the realism they were trying to achieve to Ocarina of Time, where everyone felt the 'air' in the world.. something that is very difficult for them to achieve.
There's a bit more but it's kinda vague stuff about boxes and we're tiredEnjoy!
