theHunter is a free to play online hunting game that's been out since 2009, but they keep updating it to this day, and starting today it's now available on Steam.

Within the large open world environment of the Evergreen Hunting Reserve are seven hunting reserves for you to explore. Immerse yourself in detailed hunting grounds based on Scandinavian, Central European and North American environments.

Take part in competitions, community events and show everyone that you are a master hunter by moving up the leaderboards. Your Hunter Score and skill levels increase as you play - Do you have what it takes to become the number one hunter in the Evergreen Hunting Reserve?

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

Every step you take, every animal you spot, every shot you fire and every trophy you bag is recorded on your profile for you to look at, analyze, and share with your fellow hunters.

This game is like a cross between STALKER and Sniper Elite.

Seems like a fun game.

PSA: You can't hunt the "free" cottontail rabbits with the free .243 rifle. If you don't want to spend real money, do some of the Mule Deer missions with the .243 until you have enough gm$ to buy the 12 GA Single Shot Shotgun which is ethical for rabbit. (The 12 GA Single Shot Shotgun is the only weapon you can buy with gm$; every other weapon costs real money)

Edit: gm$ is an in-game currency you can earn by doing missions. The em$ you'll see in the store is another in-game currency you have to buy with #realcashmoney
