I think it has a lot to do with the type of makeup, dresses and haircuts, those definitely trick the eyes into thinking that there is more difference than the real actual difference.
But i'm also convinced that the physiognomy of women faces\bodies changed a bit compared to the past.

I think there is an aesthetic that helps determine what type of lady gets picked for hollywood/modelling roles over others. Obviously before the 60's it had to be natural/cosmetics, as I think plastic surgery was very much in its infancy. I'm sure there was some stuff but NOTHING like the total face sculpting they can do today. The lion faced fish lipped hags would have been almost inconceivable 50 years ago but now they are commonplace.
Same with boob jobs. It's SO common now that folks forget that your typical slim bodied woman usually has A cups, small Bs at best. Now every chick is a full B or even C but can still starve themselves to a size zero dress. It messes with our (male) gaze. Plus is veered hollywood away from the small pool of women who WERE slight of frame but deep of bosom, now any bad genetic mutt with a line of credit can hammer herself into some semblance of beauty.
AI photorealistic "real time" generators are REALLY gonna fuck with us, as there will be no cottage cheese thighs, belly rolls, stretch marks, splotchy skin, or sharp knees to go along with the mathematically perfect facial symmetry and gravity defying boobs. Real women will still try to compete, or refuse to believe the OBVIOUS digital fuckery in front of them, and despite the protests of all the men they can actually touch in real life, will get some new horrific cosmetic operation.

today's VS is awful... back in the 80s-90s they were largely aimed at what I'd call "domestic" women, eg. something sexy to wear for your husband on special occasions; it was mature in a good way, and a bit "classy"
In the 2000s, it gradually shifted to a college girl emphasis, like the "pink" brand and everything around it. Lost the hot look IMO (changed from classy styles into cheap cotton "undies" etc), and became lame in many ways that culminated in things like forced diversity
