Theresa May accused of being ‘Donald Trump’s mole’ in Europe

The full title

Theresa May accused of being ‘Donald Trump’s mole’ in Europe after UK tries to water down EU climate change policy

Leaked documents show UK wanted to change EU targets on energy efficiency and renewable energy that would not apply until after the expected date for Brexit

The leaked documents, obtained by Greenpeace’s Energydesk, show the UK tried to make a policy designed to improve energy efficiency – reducing greenhouse gas emissions and making goods cheaper to run for consumers – voluntary rather than mandatory.

“The UK is, behind the scenes, trying to water down the commitments and make them voluntary instead of mandatory.”

In one of the leaked documents, the UK proposed watering down an EU plan to improve energy efficiency by 30 per cent by 2030, reducing the target figure to 27 per cent and making it “indicative” rather than “binding”.

Jonathan Gaventa, director of environmental think-tank E3G, told Energydesk that the UK’s actions were difficult to understand given the policies would not apply until after the expected date for Brexit.

“This smells of obstructionism,” he said. “The UK is p*****g off countries it needs as allies.”

Remind me again how Brexit is bad for the EU?

I know it won't happen but I wish the people of the UK could see that May and the Tories want whats worst for them.

Remind me again how Brexit is bad for the EU?

Brexit was supposed to be the start of the end of the EU.

Le Pen was supposed to be phase 2 in breaking up the EU.

I feel like since May has taken office as PM in the UK there has not been a good news coming out, instead only dumb hubris by many conservative politicians.

Always been the case, lap dog. UK had the best deal and still wanted out, will eventually have no say in Europe which probably pisses off the Americans greatly but for the EU to move forward, it may be good for Europe, sucks for UK citizens who wanted to stay in the EU though.

There was also that case of China destroying EU steel making by dumping cheap Chinese steel onto the market and the EU countries wanted to put a bigger tariff on the steel or something and the UK which got into shit by the British people for steel works in the UK going under black balled the EU proposals. Think there was also one about pesticides as well. They are shameful bastards who will fuck over anyone for money. You think post Brexit, they'll change, no fucking chance.

What's it got to do with Trump?
.
While other European politicians have made clear to the Republican billionaire that his denial of climate science is a problem, the Prime Minister has remained resolutely silent on the issue.

[snip]

Barry Gardiner [snip] told The Independent: “After the G7 [meeting], the word was put out that six countries were on track, pursuing the objective of the Paris Agreement. Only one country, America, was out of step.

“That simply has been proven not to be the case by this leak, which shows Donald Trump actually has a mole within the EU and that mole is the UK.”

Guys, look past the headline and read the content. There is nothing linking May passing secret docs to Trump.

The UK was shown to be trying to water down environmental regs behind closed doors. That's it. Doesn't make for an exciting headline though.

"Fucking EU causing climate change"
- British politicians in 2030

Hey UK, what are you doing UK?

Not sure but

"In April, Britain went a full day without using coal to generate electricity for the first time since the 1880s.

The government hopes to close all coal-fired power plants by 2025 and coal accounted for just 9% of electricity generation in 2016 - down from 23% the year before."

And UK just hit a new solar energy record

""We now have significant volumes of renewable energy on the system," he said. "We also have the tools available to ensure we can balance supply and demand."

Alongside the contribution from solar, 23% of power came from nuclear sources, 30% from natural gas and just 1.4% from coal."

It's the Independent, of course its clickbait.

If you don't believe in climate change, why would you try to stop other people from pursuing clean energy policies? Shouldn't they be putting themselves at a disadvantage, anyway? Why even care?

Gee, Airstrip One following the US? Well I never...

The UK has always been the neoliberal position in the EU, obviously neoliberals don't like climate plans.

It's a goddamn fucking travesty Trump got elected.

Imagine how much better the world would be moving in the right direction, with Tru, Merk, and Mac. With Clinton.

It's all deception anyway. Yes we're closing down coal plants in the UK but to offset this we're importing our energy from the continent (60% of our energy is imported), which is mostly coal and gas... These figures aren't reported.
Technically the UK goes green as we're burning less fossil fuels within our borders but approx 75% of our energy is still dirty.

It's kind of crazy that the British public don't realize how badly they're going to get screwed by Brexit when it comes to energy bills.

What does the UK have to gain when the rest of Europe tries to improve modestly their ecological footprint?

They would improve their competivity if everyone worked on improving the environment and they just said fuck it, it is not mandatory.

I always try and logic these things out much as you just did.

Unfortunately I don't think any of the people who believe this horse shit ever do the same.

Waiting with some pretty fucking bated breath for this election coming up - wish nothing but he best to you UK, I love y'all.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Obviously because it isn't about climate change or the policies or the ideology at all. It's a red herring excuse to re-appropriate funding out of government programs. Denying climate change also helps them to reaffirm that money into policies that fit their bullshit agenda in a way accepting the issue wouldn't.

Half this country is too stupid and blind to see through it.

51st state as ever, I would rather we did not align ourselves with the orange monster. Kinda strange considering how unpopular he is here. If Labour could somehow put May and Trump together would have huge implications for tories in election.

Oi, stop talking down Britain.

Brexit means Brexit.

Red, white and blue.

We're all in this together.

Strong and stable.

We're taking back control.

Once we get immigration down to the tens of thousands, we'll be sorted. Everything will be better. Hospitals, schools, Birmingham. Less Polish coming and taking all the work.

BUT IT'S NOT ABOUT IMMIGRATION THOUGH. Just saying.

Oh and Jeremy Corbyn
doesn't know how to use the three sea shells. Unelectable!

Well, the UK isn't exactly famous for all their factories and other production sites, and what's left will soon be gone as well. In 2030 UK will probably be one of the most environmental friendly countries in the world. Most agricultural states are.
