The American History X one is great.

Although, I prefer some other posters that have been posted here before. I'm gonna search for them now and be unproductive at work.

I can't see what's so good about them. They don't suit the movies and aren't that good. I could make that Indiana Jones one. Hell, anyone could.

From a conceptual point of view they are intelligently thought out and they do a fantastic job of summing up the raison d'etre of each film, with Die Hard being a sterling example.

Artistically, however they are horribly derivative and don't add anything new whatsoever to the style. This is not merely a case of going for a retro movie poster theme as he seems to do this with his other work as well. At least he knows his Art history.

Basically this.

I like them all except for The Dark Knight, which looks ridiculously distant from the film. He captures the essence of each film really well.

From an aesthetic perspective, these are mostly pretty cool, but they don't really all function so well as movie posters, i.e. as something that would generate interest and represent the content and style of the film it's advertising.

I mean, I realize this is just a creative exercise for the guy, but take the Die Hard poster for example. It captures some elements of the story--famous ones, even. But erase the name from the poster and it looks more like a teaser for some kind of Burton-esqe "reimagining" of the Wizard of Oz.

The Great Dictator is the best one of the bunch.

Pretty much nailed why they're not good movie posters.

Instead of making a new thread, I figure I'll post them here:

BEST MOVIE POSTERS OF ALL TIME

Now I know where that Shark/Gorilla high-five t-shirt comes from. Should add the snake in somewhere too.

Way to spoil the movie. Way more on the link, many WTF moments.

The only odd thing about those is that it's almost always the same pose, but still, those are awesome posters. I love that style.

I dont understand whats cool about this. Its lack with a red item(broken cup?) in the middle.

What makes this so cool that you had to post this one in particular?

you don't see the two faces on either side of the cup? henry jones and junior.

Please tell me the cup has to do something with the movie(not a indiana jones fan at all, fucking boring) if so, than by god thats 1 bad ass fucken poster.

The point of the movie is that Indy is searching for the Holy Grail.

The image is wonderful. Its the text at the top that is lacking.

I really like The Shining, The Warriors*, and Dawn of the Dead posters. All the others look like the older Russian and German propaganda movie posters, where I sort of expect to see either a hammer and sickle, or a swastika splashed somewhere on the page.

*Yes, I know this looks like a propaganda poster too, but damn it looks cool

Perfect evidence that you have to be over 25 to do something truly great and original.
It's all style and "look, ain't I clever, young manishnes".

Wait, so you've never seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade? You haven't seen it... because its "fucking boring"???!

*sigh*

The poster has become a great poster now. But Indiana Jones was always fucken boring to me, I mean come on, it just wasnt for me.

But that poster would have sparked interest if I would have seen that before hand and not known much about the movie. I cant unsee the faces anymore :\

Yea, I'm sure it aint boring to others, I mean obviously. I just dont care for the setting it takes place in, or the actors involved.

"disgusting" is some strong language to describe movie posters as innocuous as these :lol

hostel part 2 poster. THAT was disgusting.

That you couldn't see them in the first place tells us something about your general level of intelligence. I mean come on?! If it weren't for the fact that it's the oldest optical illusion ever, they are very, very obvious.
If you can't enjoy Indiana Jones on some level you are either from another planet or just plain stupid.

They're cheap and terrible. The Dark Knight poster looks like it was drawn by a fifth grader.

that's fantastic. I'd love to get a print.

It's good but the "THEY ARE......WARRIORS" text block needs to go. None of the text lines up but is so close to lining up that it looks like he just lazily threw it in and eyed it without double checking the alignment. The periods are also very distracting and unnecessary and could even be the reason the text doesn't quite line up if he's just put a block with center alignment.
