They Worked On WHAT?! Shocking Credentials of Game Devs

So, I was rewatching the Monolith Soft X trailers to keep up the hype, when I noticed a couple of peculiar names.

1st Trailer

Any super diehard fan of Xenogears will find this delightfully familiar. Tanaka created the looks for Fei, Citan and company!

Another interesting name popped up:

So I looked the name up and found some of his works:

Blue Exorcist - Exorcist Concerto First Movement Me & Creed

Kill La Kill - Before My Body Is Dry/Don't Lose Your Way

Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin - The Reluctant Heroes

Well, GAF? Are there any people - game designers, composers, artists, voice actors, you-name-it - whose appearances in games made you spit out your meals?

The composer of Gravity Rush and Resonance of Fate also does the music for One Piece. I started loving them all a bit more because of that fact.

I think Jordan Mechner (Prince of Persia creator) works in writing film scripts. Same for Ken Levine (at least he's working on a Logan's Run script). David Hayter worked on the scripts for the first X-Men movie and the Watchmen movie.

I just recalled one: reading Hardcore Gameing101's giant article on the Mother series and how Earthbound was in development hell for like 4 years. It looked like it was never going to be released, until a programmer came in at the last minute to fix everything. That programmer was Sotaru Iwata.

I've heard nothing to contradict that he was a brilliant programmer

gran turismo creator kazunori yamauchi first started at sony music japan.

on the same note, shuhei yoshida's first-produced game was gran turismo.

don mattrick made test drive, which later became the first game in the test drive series.

CDProjekt (witcher 2) was responsible for the horrific PC port of Saints Row 2

Not quite the same. CDProjekt RED and CDProjekt are different developers. CDPR was stood up by CDP I believe. I could and probably am wrong though.

Edit: In doing very small research it seems as if CDProjekt RED was started as a development studio by CDProjekt. CDPR never touched Saint's Row 2.

Who's Sotaru Iwata?

Cels correctly stated that CDP worked on the port, not CDPR, but misattributed The Witcher 2 to CDP instead of CDPR.

Still not something you want on your record over there...

volition (loved SR 3 and 4)

was blown away when i found out they also made the punisher and red faction 2, games i also loved

True, but that'd be like me saying Bethesda(Morrowind, Oblvion, Skyrim, Fallout 3) made Brink. Either way, it's not important. I had just never heard that before and CDPR is one of my favorite developers and I was surprised to hear that.

I'm sure most people already know this but my mind was sorta blown when I found out one of the lead designers at Naughty Dog directed the original Genesis Sonic games.

Jacob Minkoff used to be lead designer for Blue Omega Entertainment. You know, the studio that made that giant turd, Damnation.

Blue Omega went belly up, though (I wonder why?) and Minkoff moved to Naughty Dog where he designed and developed the train level in Uncharted 2. He was also lead designer alsongside Richard Lemarchand on Uncharted 3.

When Pokemon Gold/Silver was in development they ran out of space on the cartridge before they were done and Iwata compressed everything so well that there was enough space left over to include Kanto as a bonus.

Also the Freespace and Summoner games.

I think I remember finding out that the voice of Ashley in Resident Evil 4 is also the voice of Sandy Cheeks in SpongeBob.

The Creator of Earthbound, Shigesato Itoi, voiced the father character in "My neighbor Totoro". I was spitting out my coffee left and right.

Shinji Mikami's first big game directing gig was Goof Troop SNES.

Tetsuya Nomura designed a lot of iconic FF5+6 monsters, including that towering Kefka final boss everyone loves.

Any and all sins forgiven. I knew he was previously a programmer, but getting Pokemon Gold/Silver and Earthbound into the world allows for these sorts of benefits

Nintendo Software Technology worked on the GBC remake of Crystalis.

The Chief Technical Officer there was Claude Comair.

A more well known role he has is being the dean and founder of the school I go to:

Digipen Institute of Technology

Interesting thread even though I don't know who 80% of these people before. I've been gaming for like 20 years and before the age of Xbox/PS2 how did you guys find out who made games to actually follow them?

Rouge Legacy was the second game made by Cellar Door, the first being Don't Shit Your Pants. An interactive text adventure about not shitting your pants.

Whu---- what am I reading? O_O

Sawano is a godawful composer whose only real trick seems to be to make music as bombastic as possible. If Attack on Titan hadn't been killed by its terrible pacing and unfinished animation, it certainly would have been by Sawano's laughably awful music destroying every third or fourth scene.

I only hope that his advertized involvement in X is something less than being the full composer, and that maybe he'll only be contributing a handful of songs while some of the Xenoblade composers do most of the soundtrack. Because a full Sawano soundtrack would be a real downer.
