Oh come on. If you expected a thread like this to go any length of time without an argument cropping up, you're delusional.
My point is: If you've ever played previous GTA games, framerate dips and pop-in are par for the course and should expected, given everything a typical GTA game pushes. When handed a fantastic meal on a silver platter, which are you more likely to complain about: The fact the platter isn't diamond studded, or the fact that the food tasted kind of funny? Problems with the gameplay itself far outweigh the standard GTA dippy framerate and short draw distance.
Framerate-schmamerate. That's the last I'll say on it, though.
I hope they can put out a small update to fix it. The soundtrack is great but at the end of the day I wanna rock with some of my tunes. It's a small problem no doubt but one that needs to be addressed.
a run button? what a waste of a fucking button considering an analog stick could have done run/walk just fine. and sprinting isn't a good reason to keep it to a button either. that shit could've been used to toggle between autoaim and freeaim instead of the lame ass push the trigger half way down bs.
and the graphics are NOT that good. why anyone would praise this games graphics is beyond me. it's especially bad considering how ugly the slowdown gets once you get 2 or more wanted stars (while you're in a car at least).
The music during the loading screen at the start of the game. Don't like that tune, sounds a little too serious or something. They should've used the music from the second trailer.
Oh, and all the other stuff mentioned in this thread, except the driving. The driving is fantastic.
It's not 30fps with the occasional dip, it's more like 20fps that sometimes manages to hit 30 in close spaces / empty streets. It's not too bad right near the start, as there isn't as much traffic at night, and there seems to be less lighting/effects going on, but during the day on the second island is ridiculous.
No it is not 20fps. Jesus people, get your eyes check or your console is fucking broke. The only time it reaches that low is in extreme conditions. 20fps would be the previous GTAs on ps2.
If you mean by 28 or 29, you would be right part of the time. The old gtas ran at sub 30 all the time, and GTAIV has a massively improved framerate. This you can conclude that GTAIV has closer to or above 30fps.
What the fuck is with multiplayer hanging on the loading screen on every other fucking game. Jesus fucking Christ.
And put me in a populated lobby, not one where I'm by myself.
And don't kick me back to the city if I leave a game.
And don't FUCKING boot everyone in the group when a game is over. That is beyond retarded. Now I have to deal with the same shit of finding another game.
Wait, so you can't set the camera behind the car and keep it there like in the originals? You have to manually move the camera has you make turns? :lol

No game this gen should run below 30 all the time. This game runs between 20-30 all the time. It is rare to hit 30. MP is worse.....I played numerous games were the fps were below 20...prolly closer to 10...it was awful!
I could give a shit about the previous games, you are comparing this game with shit from last gen....we are talking about GTA4. GTA 4 runs below 30 all the fucking time!!

Umm, no. The problem some people are having is that if you move the camera to an off-center position, it'll automatically recenter itself as you start moving.
If 30fps with the occasional dip really ruins the game for you, I am sorry you feel that way, but I am glad I'm not such a picky little bitch and can enjoy the rest of the game for what it is. Its your loss, and you don't have anybody to blame but yourself for writing the game off because the framerate isn't super ultra buttery smooth like your unrealistic expectations portrayed it.

Quick way to check to see how fucking horrible the frame rate is...drive down the side of a boardwalk while running over benches and peds. I guarantee it will drop below 10.
You must not be looking very intently. In just a few hours of playing I saw things clipping through objects, weird poly seams, people falling through the floor, textures on the road not loading fast enough, etc. I sort of expect it from a game of this scale, but the quirks are there.
Also, try though I might, there are times where I just HATE the driving physics in this game. Yeah, I get it, it's "realistic", but that doesn't make it fun and it makes some of the chases really infuriating, which is only compounded by the fact that missions don't have fucking checkpoints.
A brilliant game, I'm having loads of fun, but it's certainly got its faults.
And I have a REALLY keen eye, trust me, I look for these things like a hawk. I've seen a bit of LOD and scenery popup, but that's it.
Edit: Pimpbaa, mine is definitely 20fps on average. Sometimes dipping below. That's my biggest fault with the game technically at the moment. The framerate is definitely above atrocious, but sometimes only barely.
So here are two scenarios. Spoilered just in case.
Manny says to go bust some caps, so off I go in my shitty SUV that handles like a boat on a trampoline, reach my destination, "Race the train!" the game says...Couldn't you be given some sort of hint of what to expect so you can better prepare yourself for it? I ended up crashing like seven times and losing the train btw.
I drive to this remote island where some drugstealers are drugdealing in an old drughospital. I shot the drugdealers and 3 STAR POLICE OUT OF NOWHERE. "Oh poopie!" I thought and ran out to my car in panic, stepped on it and tried to drive away from the police. At this point I wasn't aware that I was on an island and therefore couldn't drive away from the police, so eventually I got killed and died. I had to start over from the very beginning of the mission, before the rather long drive and drugdealerkillings.
Mid-mission checkpoints please? I failed this mission a second time btw...
I am not such a big fan of the fucking game not working. Put the game in runs the intro part and then perpetual loading screen. Game isn't good enough for me to start from scratch. Trading it in tomorrow to put toward MGS4.
If you liked the prior ones there is no reason not to get this one. You could have made this very same style of thread about every single other GTA ever released. Or just about any other game ever released if you really wanted to for that matter.
the lack of torque in all vehicles on inclines...this is especially problematic with the motorcycles, and require a longer ride-up before the incline to get momentum
i don't recall having this much of a problem in previous games, but it is very annoying...

I failed that mission 6 times and cussed the shit out of it every time. However not knowing you were on the island? Thats kinda your fault all around. Hit start at any point. Better yet once you break out hit start, and set a waypoint anywhere away from where you are, and it will tell you how to get there.
That's not something to hate for it not holding your had through it. I'm not being an ass towards you or anything. But thats the smallest thing to complain about on that mission.
i want a comeback from vigilante missions and ambulance missions actually giving me stuff... and hidden packages. Having those few police stars back at the base was nice and having a few weapons to stock up on for no cost was nice as well. Without rewards I have zero desire to do extra missions.
That and the game gets WAY too dark sometimes, and the framerate dips are a very minor annoyance but i'm so used to buttery GTA:SA on my PC...
60gb ps3? Thats what I have and it just started happening. I deleted the install and it would at least load my save, but it i will freeze 30 seconds after getting in game....BEST GAME EVER+++
