Things you think should truly be considered illegal

Cigarettes.

There are a million other things you could do to get a high that won't pollute the immediate area around you with foul smelling cancerous fumes.
 
Murder, theft, hate speech, and hard drugs, the caveat being that we treat drug use like a health issue when caught and not like a criminal issue.

I agree that smoking in public areas should be illegal. But your own home? That's some serious big brother shit right there. Anything in your own home should be legal as long as its not hurting others.

If I want to destroy my own body I should have that right. (disclaimer I do NOT smoke)

Weed isn't harmful either. I've never seen somebody high on marijuana turn angry/violent/sloppy like alcohol which is legal. Worst case scenario is you green out and go to sleep but you don't run the risk of pissing your bed or choking to death on vomit.

Along with restricting personal liberty these are my arguments against full automation. Your idea is unappealing to me, sorry.

- Your argument for forcing children to attend Sunday school and church is absurd, I don't really have to do much to prove this. You want to restrict personal liberty and strip away religious freedom. Sounds very un-American to me.

- Yes circumcision does cut down on infections and other diseases. All you have to do is use google to figure that out.

While a push for full automation may not turn out to be entirely viable, we should still be pushing to come as close as possible. Citing the last 40 years of automation is also ignoring the rate at which information technology has been advancing. We can do things now that nobody had ever conceived before.
I understand the more grounded perspective, but it's also limiting aspirations.

I haven't heard about that information from the CDC and it's very interesting. I can see why it would be beneficial in parts of the world where sexual health is more difficult to enforce and maintain. Basically playing the better end of the numbers game.
However, the people doing this in the US aren't doing it for heath reasons. They're doing it for religious ones. Also, a lot of these religious people don't think their children should be sexually active before marriage anyway, so it sort of defeats the purpose.
 
There is far too much sports betting advertising allowed when kids are watching. It's not healthy and it's introducing people to gambling way too young. The EPL is saturated by it. A good portion of teams have betting companies logos on their shirts and plastered around the grounds. I think there should be more regulation around it.
 
"Big lick" Tennessee Walking Horses - they wear huge pads and chains and are sored to make an exaggerated (ugly) movement. The USDA finally made it illegal last fall. Trump immediately canned the law.

And it isn't even a full religious reason. The reason it started being common in the US was literally because people thought it'd stop masturbation. Nowadays people do it because
"I want his penis to look like mine" which is just baffling how it's still so widespread in a 1st world country.

Not everybody is an American male or your girlfriend, you can't undo it so you can only prevent it. So it's illegal.
Really my point was that other people genuinely suffer from having that done to them as children so dismissing concerns as silly is not a good look.
 
Using Animals for food source and clothing etc. There aren't many good arguments for doing those things in a modern society, other than "tastes" good. It's only a matter of time before we have stricter farming laws, especially with lab grown meat around the corner. I imagine our great grankids will look back on us in a similar way to how we view our ancestors and slavery

Is your parent's choice to circumcise you not an infringement on you personal freedom? What about those who didn't want it? You could decide to do it later in life if you thought it was a good idea, but you can't undo it.

It doesn't make sense to throw personal freedom away for everyone else just because you liked it.
 
1. Internal oversight of complaints against police. A crucial and powerful goverment entity being allowed to police themselves. Of course it has led to decades of abuse. And yet we do next to nothing about it. A serious problem.

2. Restaurant workers not understanding the proper amount of mayonnaise to place upon a sandwich. It's almost always too much. Too much.

Did I say everyone was an American male? OP asked what should be made illegal and I am answering from an American perspective since I live here and we don't have some legally binding global judicial system. This isn't an argument of which is better, it's that circumscision should not be illegal and banned. That is a slap in the face to liberty. Only argument from there that can be mustered is that it violates consent but I say you can't approve or deny as a baby so it should be left up to the legal guardians.

No. Do you believe you can consent as a baby? You think your parents or guardians aren't going to do what they feel is best for you? I already posted a link showing the medical benefits according to the CDC and would rather have it done young than as an adult.

Those "multi-level marketing" pyramid schemes that are obviously pyramid schemes but manage to be just legal enough to not count.

Deliberate misinformation campaigns, such as anti-vaxxing shit. This includes selling foods and items that have deliberately misleading wording in their labels.

Employers implementing policies and practices that harm, overly pressure or neglect their employees for the sake of tighter profit margins. Think Amazon warehouse worker-type abuse.

Lobbying and generally large, rich organizations schmoozing politicians into doing things for them.

Conflicts of interest, such as placing former corporate executives into positions of power where they can help their former employers.

Online harassment campaigns against someone or some organization.

Hate speech.
 
Rape. Murder. Theft. Trickle down economics. Alt-Right propaganda. Pets. Motorcycles. Manual transmissions on cars. Tobacco products, sale, not possession. Not getting vaccinated. Refined sugar, soda and high fructose corn syrup. Handguns. Circumcision for non-medical reasons.

your creating exceptions now. Yes smoking should be regulated in some ways (such as kids) but as an adult you should be able to do anything you want in your own house. Other people that live with you can choose not to live with you if you smoke, or you can choose to not live with them if they don't smoke. The government shouldn't be stepping in here.

You can't consent as a child. That's the problem. It allows your parents to force a decision on you that alters your physiology forever.

Sure, it's better to be done young, but it's even better for it to not have been done without your consent in the first place.

Also, like I said, the prevailing reasoning for its practice in the US isn't health concerns. It's conforming religious and societal norms.

Also, according to the CDC, the benefits are purely for the prevention of STDs. So, let the kid grow up and make the decision when he's sexually active. There's no point in doing it early.
The benefit of it being mildly safer doesn't outweigh the freedoms of the child.

I don't understand why you advocate for personal freedom, then turn around and support this. They are incongruous. This is about the freedom of the individual, not the freedom of the parent to impart their views on the individual.

The sale and trafficking of hard drugs (not marijuana).

People with baby strollers.
Reclining chairs on airplanes.

I'm with the scalping argument. I mean, it at least has to be regulated somehow, but I doubt that would be enough. I'm sick of the 'free market' argument bs on that one.

It probably is already or at least a grey area, but streaming with android boxes. Half of everyone I know is buying these ~$50 machines and stealing IPTV / movies / tv shows constantly. I have to think that with the massive uptick in users there will be a crackdown sooner or later. By grey area I mean I think the laws are different in Canada, or perhaps that's just what these guys say to feel good about themselves.

You must not have read the article completely because the benefits aren't just for STDs. It talks about UTI's in infants, penis cancer in adults, and that the procedure is safest on newborns.

I already explained that I think you can't consent as a baby therefore the decision should be left up to parents/legal guardians. We are just going in circles at this point; I support options and freedoms of choice. Not making something illegal because you think it's this sinister form of forced mutilation for the sake of conformity.

Circumcision is an extremely painful procedure for babies. Some enter in shock from the pain. Their behaviour regarding pain is changed for at least 6 months, some even get a PTSD-like effect because of that. Yes, it decreases chance of infection in certain cases, but you know what else decreases it? Soap and water. Showering.

And come on, your parents didn't choose to circumcise you because they felt it was "the best" for you. They did it because of social norms and because "it's the way it is". It's great that you're fine and happy with your procedure. Millions are! But you gotta think about those that aren't happy about it and can't do anything to undo it, just because some lunatic in the 1800s thought making the procedure popular would stop masturbation.

People that want to get a circumcision can do so when they can rationally decide about it, leaving this kind of decision to the parents is just sad.
