The one-drop rule is just a symptom of how race works. The simple fact of the matter is that 'white' just isn't a race the same way others are; it's merely an indicator that you have no 'other' ethnicity to you. 'White' is just a synonym for 'normal'. You can't really be half normal.

And in any case it doesn't matter what race the perpetrator is. This could have easily been a Bill Cosby-type that did this. The point is that the guy thought "black kid in a hoodie out at night=SUSPICIOUS" and ended up shooting the kid dead based entirely on stereotypes, and that's fucked up.

I'm not saying that at all. It's not an either/or thing. Mixed can simultaneously be any of the above.

I failed to address anything because he basically said I was a racist and went off on a rant that had little to do with what I said. But doesn't Zimmerman consider himself to be Hispanic? Didn't his own father call him a "Spanish speaking minority"? So if he considers himself to be Hispanic don't you wonder why some people are fighting so hard to just make him into a white dude? Which is why I said had Trayvon been a white kid people would gladly call Zimmerman Hispanic because that would fit into another kind of negative narrative that people eat up. Do you think the media would care about this case had it been a black man shooting another black kid? Or a white on white? Of course not. The picture of a white dude shooting a black kid is painted and people love it.

I apologize if I came across as too agressive. I actually though you were the person from the first page who said "Zimmerman isn't White". That is a racist comment because it's unworkable without the one drop rule.

What you did say was "Zimmerman is only white in this case because it fits the narrative people want to paint". That is arguably racist. Again, if you say Zimmerman isn't White you have to define what "White" is. We've already established that he's likely more than 50% European ancestry. Furthermore, Hispanics can be White. Frankly, the onus is on you to define what you mean. So what do you mean? Why isn't Zimmerman White?

Well Zimmerman and his family consider themselves to be Hispanic and Hispanic people are not normally called "white people". You know like in elections they talk about the white vote, the black vote and the Hispanic vote. They don't lump Hispanics in with other white people. Maybe that's wrong? Fuck if I know. But enough of this it's very off topic. Please feel free to call him whatever you wish.
