thinking of trying DDP Yoga

Wakey wakey, DDP-GAF! I'm really bummed to see how dead this thread is - I haven't bought the DVDs yet, but I'm very tempted to. I'm just worried it will be a waste of money because I've started and failed exercise routines about a billion times in the past. The fact that this thread fizzled out isn't inspiring much confidence, either :P I think an *active* thread here on GAF though would be a tremendous help in keeping me disciplined.

Lucky for us, there's a golden opportunity to make a newDDP Yoga OT with the app launching on Black Friday :D If someone makes one, it would probably be enough to push me over the edge and get me to order.

I'd highly recommend them. I have seen a huge uptick in my strength. The workouts are fun, and there's a lot of satisfaction. First time I did Red Hot Core without stopping, great sense of accomplishment.

Sorry for the mega late response - just now continuing with catching up on this thread. So you've been sticking with it for all this time? Excellent to hear! I'm tempted to jump on this end of summer sale, but according to reddit, the app releasing on black friday might be an updated workout routine? These are just random forum posts over there, so who knows if it's accurate. I'm probably better off waiting until black friday though just to be safe... one more week won't kill me. In the meantime I've been doing my mom's Shaun T T25 workouts, so at least I'm doing *something*.

The more I read about DDP Yoga though, the more jazzed I am to give it a go. Really hope whatever comes of the app reinvigorates some interest in it here on GAF.

Seems like the DDP Yoga App launch is a fail thus far. DDP saying on Twitter he's waiting on Google/Apple to put it up on their app stores.

Not sure why it wasn't put up on the stores earlier in the week so it would be ready for today.

Also if you already bought the DVDs, you have to wait until Dec 3rd to get your "gift subscription" of only 30 days. People who buy the DVDs today get 90 days free.

I don't understand - aren't the DVDs the same as the content on the app? Or does the app feature a brand new workout routine?

I just discovered the app and the subscription service. Signed up- Thankfully it works in the browser and I can Chromecast to my TV.
Been waiting on new workouts for YEARS.

Finally picked this up and I'm about to try out my first workout today.
Going through the introduction to the moves and checking out some of the work outs and I have to say I'm pretty nervous. I've had back issues throughout my life and just looking at these moves is giving me anxiety. Obviously I need to modify them until I'm more flexible but I really wish there was a disc for the super beginner like me.

The DDP Yoga App has a "Beginner Beginner" workout.

Ok then, everyone must be busy doing DDP yoga.
Looking back through the thread I see so many bans. No wonder it's dead in here.
Anyways my neck is pretty sore. I know it's from doing these moves while trying to watch the DVD at the same time. Looking forward to knowing the moves/routines enough to where I'm not straining to watch the videos.
Other than that I'm liking it so far.

I really should try this. I grew up on wrestling and read the stories about Jake and Scott. I could stand to lose 30 pounds. Lost about 10 a year ago without much effort, but put it back on as I'd get discouraged.

I went to his workshop today! It was decent, the workout was easy -basically a 50 min Fat burner and the talk was one I heard before punched up here and there. It was great to meet other people doing the yoga and seeing the impact it has had on them, hell and me.
Oh and Arthur was there.
I joined a power yoga studio and am finding it more challenging at the moment and I burn about the same amount of calories but I still am doing DDY about twice a week.

Finally started this yesterday - February 29th! Nice date to remember.

The Diamond Dozen doesn't seem like much of a workout so far, since he shows you the moves before you do each one so you get a sizable rest break in between, but I'm sure Energy will remedy that quickly.

Did the wakeup one this morning, can't tell if I felt more energized than I normally would or not, but it's still nice to stretch out first thing.

My biggest concern, though - downward dog is killing my wrists. I can feel the lifetime arthritis coming on every time I do it. What are the best wrist position modifiers for positions like that?

There are not any really that I am aware of, try doing it like traditional yoga- spread your fingers out wide and maybe move your arms in closer. Eventually your wrists will get used to it.

Practice. Downward dog is a tough one to build strength on, and even more difficult to accept it as a rest position. I'd recommend continuing to build strength in your wrists (e.g., gripping and releasing stress balls) and to take breaks if it becomes too painful. I ended up with a ganglion cyst because I jumped into it so quickly.

Use a yoga block to raise yourself up a little bit. It'll put less weight on your wrists I would think.

Oh man - a ganglion cyst?? Those are no joke.

I'm almost worried I'm going to royally screw up a part of my body by doing a move improperly - even though he explains the positions in diamond dozen, I still had a deal of trouble getting all of my positioning correct.

Anyway, does anyone here even still do this program?

Me! Just did Stand Up about an hour ago.

I just started week 6 yesterday with the Fat Burner. I am pretty amazed so far. I've dropped `25 pounds and can feel the muscle difference. I'm still getting used to fat burner (had to take a knee a few times) so I don't know if I'm looking forward to Red Hot Core next week.

You might not be distributing your weight properly. Try pushing back to put more weight on your feet.

So...this is it. I have to do Red Hot Core today and I'm kind of scared. I didn't know the details and thought it would be some ~45 minutes intense workout. I read ~5 pages of comments yesterday about people being destroyed, not being able to finish or even throwing up during or after this workout.

I'm not going to just blast the 12 minutes and hurt myself but I am barely used to Fat Burner

Red Hot Core has a lot of modifications. You'll be fine.

Wow, I didn't really even need the modifications. I can't get my legs very high for the jackknife but I was able to do everything and it really wasn't that bad. I'm not in terrible shape so maybe if you are a beginner to working out in general that would be bad. The mountain climbers were tough but everything else felt fine.

I should be able to stack that with the other workouts without too much trouble.

Nice job, Bob!

I wonder when I'll get to red hot core - currently on day 10 of the beginner program, and boy is the workout schedule light. I'm committed to doing everything in order though, and I'm currently supplementing my off days with the Wake Up "routine", but I might need to add some more too before I hit intermediate. Energy three times a week isn't enough - but I'm at least already feeling more flexible and am noticing better posture. Crazy how fast those small improvements take hold.

Red hot core is bad but it's doable. This is my fourth time doing ddp on advanced. Maybe I'll finally get through the whole program. Week 3 btw

You might be better off to supplement Fat Burner instead of energy.

I had to resist the urge to add more workouts than the schedule said. I agree it is light but I think beginner is really for total beginners to not just Yoga but workouts. I stuck with what they had and I'm seeing amazing results. An extra session on the weekends is ok but I think I would have worn myself out or gotten really sore if I didn't take my early days off. Next week I start Week 8 and than it starts to stack the workouts and then add an extra day.

About 6 months ago I was admitted to the Hospital with a BP of 240/120. I thought I pneumonia or something less so I went to the Drs for some anti-biotics. Turns out I was close to having a heart attack or a stroke. Spent a week in the hospital and found out I have Hypertension/High Blood Pressure. Never had any noticable symptoms.

After recovering I began trying to get back into DDPYoga. It's been months now and after many stops and starts I'm finally able to complete a few routines.

Long road.

Thought I'd post in here.

I was about 275, my wife had been doing a low carb diet for a few months and I decided to join in about the 7th or 8th here.

Last week on wednesday I decided to give DDP yoga a shot because going to the gym hurts my joints quite a bit at the weight I'm at. My wife encouraged me and joined in too. I've been doing it every day since then (took a break on saturday) and through the exercises and diet I'm down to 262!

I'm really enjoying it and I couldn't recommend it more to people. The strange thing about it versus going to the gym in the past is while I'm at work I actually can't wait to get home and to do my workout. You really do feel better after it! I'm going to subscribe and check in here from time to time!

So I've been doing it for a little over 2 months now and it has helped transform my body. I was not necessarily fat but I was out of shape and any extra weight seemed to go to my stomach. My abs are now back for the first time in over a dozen years or so. I've started to eat better so that has obviously helped too. Feeling and looking great!
ALTHOUGH yesterday was the first time I tried "Stand Up" and my knees are really sore today. Hoping this is a normal feeling and I didn't damage anything.

Anyone else still doing this?

I restarted this year and focused on sticking with the program and have noticed an improvement in my fitness and just general mental state. It may not be the best cardio compared to other programs, but, I look forward to it and has consistently stuck with the DDPyoga.

Yessir - just did fat burner today :D On week 9 or 10 of the beginner program - I took last week off, but now I'm right back in it, and other than last week I've only missed two sessions since starting. There has been a very noticeable difference in my mobility (my legs just feel... strong and limber all the time now?) and my overall sense of wellbeing. Still nowhere near where it should be (that will happen when you need to lose a bunch of weight), but I've lost about 15 lbs since starting and this is by far the longest I've ever stuck with an exercise program. I have no doubts I'll keep with it and get to where I need to go.

I love it.

Finally moved up to the Double Black Diamond. Black Crow is impossible. Man.

I was not able to get this forever til I joined a studio and was taught how to do it.
Try pulling your hands inward, it gives you a broader base. Put your toes together and look forward.

I'm currently in a cycle where I workout hard nearly every day for 2-3 months, and coast for the rest of the year. Not a great system, but I'm approaching the time where I need to set up a daily workout plan again.

I've tried DDP Yoga, but I only end up doing Diamond Cutter/Double Black Diamond sessions because I feel like I get way more out of them than the others. I did the Insanity program completely once, and after that I've been cherry-picking the ones I feel are the most effective; So the last time I went on an exercise binge I alternated between Insanity sessions and Diamond Cutter/Double Black Diamond.

For people starting out I'd heavily recommend doing the schedule they plan for you, and to print it out and tape it to the wall so you can cross out the days. It's really useful to see your progress grow.

Yes, exactly. My balance and flexibility has been shit for years (just in general, but certainly worse after a surgery) but, since starting DDPYOGA I've noticed a huge improvement in my mobility. Possibly due to a boost in confidence and I now know I can do these things. Glad someone else is loving it to!

Have to try this and see if I can't make this happen. Thanks!

Looking for guidance ---

I'm on week 8 of Beginner, just knocked out RHC+FB earlier today. I find that I have the strength and flexibility but that my HR blows out during parts of FB (during the pectoral flys for ex.) so I have to back off.

So once I finish Beginner in the next few weeks, how do I build my endurance? Should I jump to the mid-point of Intermediate for ex? Or just "tack on" a few Energies here and there? Basically, I want to get through FB, etc. without going out of my HR zone.
Long term goal is to get to the 210lb range (I am 43 yrs, 6'2, 247# right now) and to conquer DBD. I have of course noticed an improvement in my ability and HR on FB and Energy since the first time I did them!

Mix it up and go for some pure and sustained cardio; swimming, running, elliptical, etc... Yoga is great for strength, balance, and stretching out muscles that don't typically get much use, but even DDP yoga is a pretty slow road for cardio. Even walking fast for 45 minutes a day or so is better cardio IMO.

Also, for whoever above was talking about wrist soreness... I bought these specifically for yoga and they've been great:

Thanks, I have a good trail nearby and have walked it many times, but sort of quit last year. I'll add that on my off-DDP days.

so you guys think HR monitor is a good investment?
I grabbed a Fitbit blaze tonight and downloaded the DDP yoga app so I'm jumping headfirst back in. Saw 326 on the scale tonight and I've never seen that. Did a workout. Love the app and hope it's what I need to stay on track. The variety should help.
