They can't dig too deep without violating OSHA regulations (5 feet, I think). Trenching and excavation requires engineered structural support approved by a Professional Engineer plus inspections as well.

Depending on the size of the total excavation at the end of this little experiment, they might have issues with the Illinois EPA too (if they're in Illinois).

I always find the psychology behind this type of stuff fascinating. Like, it tap dances on that notion that we're inclined to give money to people who look to already have it. Whether it merits doing in the first point is beside the point. I'm sure CAH isn't starved for money where they need donations to dig this dumb hole however if i created a kickstarter with the same premise whats the odds that i'd get anymore than more $50 bucks or so. How many people who've given to CAH to dig this hole would look at my kickstarter and think it was the dumbest thing they'd ever seen and never give it another thought?
