Jaysus how are ya.

If nobody responds to my flyers/social media posts, ... I can keep him without feeling bad right?
The fact that you're making a considerate effort to find his first owner means that yeah, if no one responds I'd say you're now his.

Ad in the paper might not hurt if that's within your budget too though. Just to cover the basics.

Cats CAN sneak outside and not return because they're dumb. Almost lost mine that way :\ found him in the neighbor's yard like four hours later.

This cat is very jumpy. Whenever I raise my hand, like if I was going to take a photo on my phone, he jumps and or runs away.
Keep your hands low, I guess. Pat on the side rather than the top? And bribe with treats, too :)

If you have a blanket or something and want the cat to use it, leave it somewhere and let the kitty suss it out for themselves.

Give the cat some time. It's in a new "territory," so let it become accustomed to you, and everything else, on its own terms. If it runs away like that, then leave it be. Over time you'll find the bond getting stronger between you two.

It's possible it was abused. When my mum took in what she thought was a stray cat, it hated being followed too closely/feet in general. Turns out it was a cat from a nearby house that had been kicked it a lot when he was a kitten. No wonder the poor thing ran away. They didn't even care that my mum had taken him in.

I was walking home from the shops, this cat was sitting on the pavement. I knelt down and give him a little stroke, he rubbed his head and his tail on me. He didn't have no collar or nothing on but he was well kept and gentle and all. I started walking again and he followed me a mile and half home and when I closed the door on him sat outside meowing till I let him in. So I took him back where I found him but he kept following me and shit so now he's just here.

The ISPCA are closed till the morning, no ones responded to the facebook post I made yet, what do I do?

You are now the property of a cat. You learn to accept it.

you belong to him now

Update on mine: She's doing great, seems really healthy, eats a TON, using the box just fine, etc. She's also by far the friendliest, most affectionate cat I've ever met. She's almost never satisfied unless she's getting attention. :lol

aw glad both of the cats are feeling at home.

You're both making me want to drive up to DSPCA and rescue a cat... I couldn't do that though as my Scottie would never forgive me for taking in the enemy

It will build trust over time. My cat was extremely shy in the beginning and she hasn't stopped becoming more comfortable even a decade later.

Don't force him to do stuff. Like if you put him in your lap don't try to hold him there. Just let him jump down, and when he learns that he can do that he'll feel comfortable sitting there. Sitting down and getting closer to eye level with cats also reduces the intimidation they might feel.

Ewww, thats gross. Get a cat or an exterminator?

He likes to be stroked, and he likes to sit on me, but he doesn't like me raising my hand to him. Which is fine obviously, he's a very nice cat. Can't imagine why anyone wouldn't want him.

It's highly unlikely, but it *is* possible that their previous owner developed an allergy to cats that they didn't have prior in their ownership and thus couldn't take care of them due to said allergy posing health concerns they didn't or couldn't live with. Doesn't excuse them from simply abandoning them on the streets instead of finding them a good home if that's the case, of course.

Possibly. Still no response to my social media poster or the flyers I put up.

So if nobody calls or texts by the end of the week, I'm gonna name him!

If it's a lost pet I hope the owner claims him. I lost my cat once, and she came back home a month later. I have no idea what happened and had given up on her, but I was heartbroken at the time, so maybe there's a similarly sad owner somewhere. If no one seems to claim him though... congrats on a lovely, adorable pet! :)

And you too. She's magnificent.

Edit: nice to have some feel-good threads about cats instead of the opposite for once :)

you sir are a hero for taking this cat in. seriously, I commend you.

Thought I'd check in on this thread and see what's up. Looks like you've been chosen, OP. I know if one of my cats went missing, I'd be all over social media/local vets/flyers, so if nobody responds it's because he's either been abandoned or he's a stray. I was about to put flyers up for my cat when he had been missing for five days, but he came back with not a care in the world. So, it seems a chance encounter in the street and you've found yourself adopted by a ginger.

I have the name Fibonacci reserved for any future cats; somebody mentioned the name and I imagined them being called for at the vets. It's a great name, but alas 6 cats is far, far too many. So no more for me.......ever. The little gits have cost us an absolute fortune in vet bills over the past two years.

Nice one OP!

I fucking adore cats and always love to see a good rehoming story : )

Here's a good rehoming story for you, pitchfork. This was a thread from a couple of years back that I made.

No he's just cool. He sits outside for the bathroom for me, which is weird. But like, he's so handsome. He's cool, he endlessly wants affectionate but I like it. He's taken to rubbing his head on me/on stuff.
The bathroom thing isn't weird, that's normal (for cats). Our current flat has an ensuite where the door doesn't shut completely, so we'll hear during the night one of the cats headbutting it to open it. Usually they go for a wander, then walk out again.

They also do this while we're in there. Little bastards.

What names are you thinking? For a ginger cat, you have to name him after a famous ginger/red head!
Shaneus ;)
