These things are cute

wth is wrong with you people

People being scared of these things is like all the people who post that Taco Bell gives them the shits in every single thread about Taco Bell

I would gladly share some taco bell with these delightful creatures.

The Bigfin Swuid always reminds me of Striders

Holy shit, what does that thing in the OP eat? Is it preyed on? Wtf

It's crazy how many weird looking animals live in the deep oceans.. Ones that illuminate, have see through bodies and look out of this world.

Imagine the one we have yet to discover. I bet there are mermaids who've been strategically avoiding human contact for thousands of years

This makes me want to watch some BBC (or narrated by someone British) deep sea documentaries

Well, at least the little fish are harmless. It's not like they can spit fire or anything...

Aww, c'mon!

I can't remember but if we even got that far with a submarine, wouldn't it be crushed because of the pressure? Or am I wrong. This leads me to asking why don't we do now deep sea experiments like they do in space?

vessels carrying humans made it to the bottom (give or take) of the marianna trench and back.
not sure what kind of experiments you're refering to - what's looked at on the ISS usually has something to do with zero G, which obviously ain't happening ina submersible.

Deep ocean shit is cool, you guys asking for nukes in the ocean are crazy.

It's the creatures on land we need to worry about.

Not to mention, you really don't want to introduce something like THAT to the oceans and give this creepy things the genetic push to venture on land. Keep them deep under the sea.

We have a savior though. The rainbow mantis shrimp shall protect the surface and upper ocean from such foul creatures

Deep sea creatures are incredibly fascinating. We're screwed, but it's fascinating to see them

Looks like something Yasuyuki Honne designed.

can we just nuke the ocean

someone pull up the possible nuke area pic and just circle the oceans

goddamn nature wtf

To quote one of my favorite exchanges from one of my favorite movies -

Do you think that the human race and other mammals fled in panic from the oceans and crawled on solid land to get out of this?

Yeah, I think undoubtedly that's exactly the driving force that caused us to leave the horrors behind.
pistol shrimp are the ones that shoot shockwaves, mantis shrimp break open shells by punching really fucking hard
True Facts About The Mantis Shrimp.

The thing that is so unsettling to me about the OP is how each tentacle is bent at a right-angle in almost the exact same way, same direction. It is so unnatural. Otherwise it would look like any other squid.

Also the explorers getting out and exploring the bottom lol

Lol I thought the same thing. We know more about space than we do about our own oceans it's crazy.

I hear this often but how true is it? If there are other life beings on different planets (which is likely true) then how can we possibly know more about space than our oceans? I am legit asking this question. Please enlighten me.

On topic, I think I've seen this creature before online...perhaps on here. Cool / scary looking. I love deep sea animals they are so mysterious.

How far down have we gone? Did we reach the very bottom?

There's must be thousands of species we have no idea even exist

Nah man, we gotta explore the Mariana Trench. I'm sure some truly horrific things lurk there

Edit: Damn, James Cameron already did it. He went to the bottom, why? Because he's James, James Cameron

But yeah the sea is a place we have barely scratched the surface on (pun intended)

This fking thread..

Honestly that Suriname or whatever frog was the creepiest to me..when it really shouldn't even be. What a messed up fascinating world we live in.
