So disgraceful.
What's the problem? People hate cats nowadays?
I tent to see cat haters complain about them pooping in the flower beds, crossing their land, they're unloyal/selfish and killing birds
often their dog lovers, which i find so unbelievably hypocritical, firstly dogs poop where they stand and depending on the owner they'll not clean up either, so the arguments of stepping in poop are odd, and perhaps worse for dogs, cats hide it
crossing land? well thats just crazy, they don't know we own land, maybe if we marked our territory then it would be in a way they understand
unloyal/selfish, all animals can be like this including dogs
killing birds? fair point predatory animal kills smaller animals, just like dogs kill squirels etc, some even use the below reasoning...
Kind of torn about this. On the other hand, this is obviously 100% wrong to do. On the other, there are less cats around. Not that I hate cats, but cats are a real ecological problem nowadays, doing their own part in fucking up ecosystems all over the world.
[not targeting you personally Famassu, just tackling that argument] Cats have a negligible effect on ecosystems in residential areas, human destruction of habitat is what kills wild bird life, hedgehogs etc, sure Cats can get them as a natural predator, but cutting hedges, building on scrub land, even gardening which introduces non native plants, killing of bugs in gardens, kills/affects far more of an ecosystem than even a horde of cats could.
If people are really worried about a predatory animals effect on wildlife they should be even more incensed by human effects
But as you aren't bat shit crazy like i've seen most people who wheel out the eco system argument, you know killing cats is wrong, but everytime you go on a news site which runs these articles you will find quite a lot of people seem to think that for killing a bird all cats should be destroyed
I've lost too many cats over the years, neighbours had them poisoned, one of mine may have been (he died in odd circumstances, we thought run over as he had some blood on his nose, but a day later a neighbours cat was poisoned)
EDIT; oh man i should have replied to responses on the second page! cats kill dozens if not hundred of wild animals each month! ha that is the most ludicrous thing i've ever read
So a single cat kills about 2400 animals a year, so in a neighbour hood with multiple cats, it must be like some post apocalyptic environment with only cats roaming the streets, no bid song, no mice or small insects
You'd be lucky if a single cat killed 1 bird a month, in all my years of owning multiple cats i've only ever had 1 bird brought to my door, and saw one trying to play with a mouse (no claws he kept batting it so it rolled over) - i could be less than average, but man with your numbers my cats must have been virtual pacifists
2nd EDIT: although if you are tailing about feral cats in Australia that could be different but i'd still debate hundred per month per cat, that's unrealistic
but still Australia is very post apocalyptic so it could be true
