This is the worst "Damn I'm old" moment yet

OP, you're new cutoff is 21 now. 18 at 27 is getting close to "creepy guy" level, regardless of whether or not you have a baby's face.

I was going to say 18 ish is like 1st year of Uni/College which isn't terribly young like school but then I remember seeing pictures of me at Uni in 1st year and I looked twelve.

Remember that dude who said his ex-girl called him a cradle robber for dating someone like four years younger? (32 and 28 or something)

Being called "Sir" by people 3-4 years younger than me at the gym

Feels weird, but good to know some teens are still well behaved.

I'm 27 and I dated a 18 year old for a couple of months earlier this year.

The age difference creeped no one I knew of my close friends and her close friends. Granted, in my country we are much more lenient when it comes to age difference, so it was not a surprised. TBH, I was more unconfortable by the manner we got to know each other.

Explain why exactly 21. And don't say drinking age or half of so and so or mentality, as the latter can vary heavily from person to person.

The idea is "who you can date", not "want to date". I.e. you may from experience find people under 21 immature. Does that mean if you met an 18-year-old who wasn't, you shouldn't be allowed to even consider dating them? Dating being looking for a relationship or just a good fuck. Or both.

Just... be decent and be happy, people.

My "Damn I'm old" moment came when I went through the entire Spotify Top 40 station and was skipping just about every track.........

.............then I hopped over to the 80s station and was thumb-upping and saving just about every track.

You're not old, man. People care too much about age shit and you weren't too old for her. She was clearly okay with you until she found out your age and she turned into a dick.

She did you a favor, OP. I'm sure it varies occasionally, but I cant imagine dealing with the lack of maturity and nonsense, etc.

You should have noticed the moment you scrolled through your fb feed and saw your former classmates getting married/having kids

Her loss, you're both adults and she was clearly at least somewhat into you. But that shows you why it's a good thing it didn't happen, because she's got some mental hurdles to overcome if hitting it off with someone gets cancelled out by ... learning they're older than you thought.

You're not too old. She's too young.

That 9 year age gap wouldn't be as big of a problem if she was like 23 and you were 32.

I'm 27 and my younger sisters are 20 and 21. When we throw parties, there have been a few times where a friend of theirs in the 18-21 age group is obviously interested, but I can't help but look at them like kids. So much growing up to do at that age, I just can't see myself being in a relationship with someone under 25.

I just don't see the appeal of being a shepherd to someone way younger. That shit sounds like work, and I have enough of that going.

You don't really want to have a relationship with an 18 year old when you're 27. At least I hope not. The gap in life experience is absolutely massive.

Firstly, you're painting with a broad brush. Maturity varies by individual. And at parties...are you looking for your future wife?

I don't really blame her. 10 years is a long time, especially from 18+ Think about how much you have changed and learned from 18 to 27?

27 to 37? ehh not as bad.

sorry bro.

Imagine being with someone constantly amazed by how much you know, and who needs to try to live up to a "real man" by acting "mature".

The whole deal sounds soooo toxic, and is telling of both parties.

If you're really that bummed about it OP just make sure every time you talk to her from now on at work you've got "Father Figure" by George Michael playing subtlety in the background.

I'm 28 and I do feel old sometimes. Really not looking forward to turning 30. I would never considering seeing an 18 year old, we'd never have anything in common.

I've never dated so I don't know what age gap I would/wouldn't mind in a guy/date. Probably wouldn't mind any adult with 8-10 years of my age though but anything more might be too large to have similar interests and such with. I turn 26 next month and feel absolutely ancient and 5 years past my prime though >_<

Well I'm married to a latina, and she often calls me papito, haha :P

(She's four years older than me...)

Mexican here, for some reason we [latinos] have the tendency to endearingly baby call cute young things (like your significant other, your children or your pets) mom/dad or related nicknames, so she's pretty much treating you like a little boy.

Then again, depending on the tone of how she says it, she might also be just stating you're pretty hot.

Don't see the problem. My girlfriend is 11 years older than me.

Age gaps really vary in importance as we get older. A 10 year gap when one is 35 and the other is 25 won't seem like a big deal, but 18 and straight out of high school vs. 28 can be enormous. There's a great difference in life experiences and maturity.

There's also a big variation person to person, so that observation is not iron clad, but I think it's generally true that age gaps matter less as we get older. (45 vs. 55, etc.)

I acatually recently met a freshman at college (18) and I'm a 23 year old super senior. And I really like her. My first thought on the age difference was that it was too much. But when we hang out we get along great, it seems normal. Maybe I'm immature for my age, or she is mature. But it doesn't seem weird. I guess it just varies. Or maybe I'm a creep.

Sounds fine. If the relationship is good, just stick with it.

The fun part here is that a lot of people seem to believe that she cancelled because of his age.

She was not into you OP.

You look like two children of the same age from where I'm standing.

I loved being 23 because you feel like you're so old but don't realize you're just a senior teenager yet. :p

When I was a senior in college and had something developing with a freshman, it quickly became apparent how big of a maturity difference there was when we hung out with her group of freshman friends.

The difference becomes exponentially less each year after freshman year.......the difference between a 12th grader and 9th grader is off the charts. The difference between a college senior and freshman is still large and real. The difference between a college senior and sophomore is minor, between senior and junior is negligible. The difference between a 25 and 21 year old or 30 and 25 year old or 30 and 40 year old are then almost non-existent.

Ask her out again when she is 21.

Typical context: "Mira papito, no soy tu chacha!"

I'd prefer something like "sí, sigue, papito!", but that has become rarer :P

If it's legal and there's chemistry, I don't see the issue. Just don't be a creep in general, which IMO has nothing to do with age so long as it's legal and consensual.

You're right, I'm just going by my experiences. I've yet to meet that 21 year old that had a rough upbringing and thus has matured faster than most people her age. I don't doubt they exist.

I'm also 27 and this thread is making me feel old.

Thanks, OP!

The hard truth: 27 isn't old and she's too young for you.
