This Key West live cam sure is something

I found the original source of the webcam streams. Unfortunately the links barely work due to heavy web traffic.
Links hidden to reduce web traffic. Quote to see links.

edit: Links redacted, streams are dying.

stream being weird, saw a guy come to take pictures, almost hit by waves, then it cuts to clouds. the other rooftop one went offline too

There are still people there? What the fuck?

Yep, but most people are normally sheltering inside at this point. You always get a few geniuses pulling these stunts.

Just talked to my grandma who is sheltering in a sturdy hotel. The new town area still has power but neighborhoods are starting to lose power. I hope the camera streams keep going even as the outages spread.

A good friend of my sisters died during hurricane Andrew because he and his buddy went to surf the crazy waves right before the full storm hit. People do dumb shit. Especially when they are young and think they are invincible. I am not surprised at all to see the people in those pictures.

I don't see how it's possible to seriously lay there and try and sleep with the shit that's currently going on there.

Born and raised in FL, and have been through some hurricanes (I am 41.) Here's the thing: Lots of uninformed Floridians (which is most of them) have also been through multiple hurricanes. They have not been through this kind of hurricane, but that little detail matters little to lots of folks. Floridians have a "fuck off, we'll deal with it" attitude to these events. I grew up around folks who gave exactly zero shits about hurricanes.

Sucks. I've been trying to convince my stepfather to get out of Tampa, but he is just adopting the normal Florida attitude. It's almost a point of pride. I think that's part of what makes hurricane parties a thing. This is a bigger deal than lots of Floridians are used to (we have shrugged off some shit, tbh) and I feel like tradition is blinding folks to the reality of the strength of Irma.

:(

I think it's perfectly possible if you are drunk enough.

It looks like power on the block he's sleeping on went out so it will be nice and quiet for him now. I mean if you ignore the pounding rain and howling winds I guess.

My grandfather didn't even put his shutters up. They live in Ocala so they're not going to get hit with storm surge or flooding, but the last major hurricane, they got tornados in their area.

Ugh, you hit the nail on the head. My best friend basically got a phone call from her father who refused to leave his house. He told her he wanted to die in his own home and that he loved her in case he died. Last I heard, friend's sister still couldn't get him to move into the neighbor's house next door, which is much stronger.

That is the Key West Conch mentality, and that is the level of stubborn we've been dealing with the last two days. It's insane and hard for people from the outside to understand sometimes.

Rewound the stream and saw him try to flag down a truck shortly after siting down... goddamn it. Fuck! That was probably his last chance at getting out

Nothing beats this homeless guy tho. Laying on the ground on Duval Street trying to sleep in the thick of it.

If you wind it back, you can see him staggering up the street at 7:30 pm on the clock at the top of the feed. Some people walk past him just after he sits down. Then at 7:34 pm, he lies down. He has been motionless since. Maybe he's really just going to sleep through the hurricane and wake up and wonder where all the buildings went.

Two different groups of pedestrians walked past him also. And a guy on a bicycle.

Dude on a bike just rode by. Seems like power is flickering on and off with that street light. Waves are getting intense!
