This week's Famitsu thread...(Persona 2 PSP)

Persona 2 is completely playable even today, it didn't age anywhere near as badly as Persona 1 did.

First, let me tell you this; I love P2. The setting is awesome. The story is the best in the series. The cast is arguably the best as well.

However, the gameplay is just not there. The default auto-battle system is hit-or-miss. My main beef with it is that it's not as involving as say, Nocturne or the newer Personas. Farming Tarot for summons is tedious.

Sure, I kept playing 'til the end but it doesn't mean it couldn't be better.

Yeah, can't say I enjoy the tarot system. I'd totally be in favor of removing that in favor of Shuffle Time/Fusions like P3 and P4 The auto battle system, however, would be a lot better if the User Interface was adjusted.

Hopefully Atlus gives it the update it deserves.

Based on the scan, it doesn't look like there's much updating. It looks like they've definitely updated the interface though. There's one battle screen and in it, the character's portraits, HP, and MP gauges are on the bottom right corner of the screen.

Marrshu said:
Err, wasn't that just because they adjusted the difficulty back to the way the Japanese version of P1 was?

Nope. They made a huge overhaul of "balance changes" for the PSP version to make it easier for players to get into.

Just saw the scan and I'm not getting my hopes up. I'll buy it just because it's P2 but it's a shame they couldn't give it a few meaningful updates.

...kind of want? i thought 3 was pretty damn disappointing, here's to hoping they get it right this time.
p2 was inevitable, but exciting nonetheless. so p1p wasnt any good?

A couple of details have leaked out on the PSP remake of 1999 PlayStation title Persona 2 Sin. The game will will have a new opening movie from Satellite, the studio that worked on Macross F. Additionally, the PSP version will include the original's opening movie and music.

Expect more details to surface throughout the day.

Whoa. Awesome. :lol

It was fine for a PSP enhance port of P1, unless you were among the group complaining about the music. I personally think they could have added some more animations in, but...

... at any rate, Persona 2 doesn't need much work to bring it up to standards, and the scans look pretty good.

Yeah, I like everything about it but the gameplay. The battles are boring as piss and the encounter rate is high and you fight in pretty much every area. I couldn't even finish the game because it became so damn tedious.

Innocent Sin at least needs to be brought up to Eternal Punishment's standards and have things like sound effects that sync up with the animation and groovy technicolor battle backgrounds.

I agree that the cast is better than 1 and EP but I can't say the plot is better than EP. To me EP had weaker less interesting characters than the teens from IS but the plot was much more cohesive and interesting than the one from IS. I was also much more excited to know what was going to happen in EP. In IS when you clear the dungeon on Mt Iwato the plot becomes a mess.

The gameplay is good and balanced if you know the ''correct way'' to play it. You must learn which contact information will make demons give you tarots, items and which one will make them flee. This way if you are lost in a maze and low on MP you can get cards, items or get away and walk around to regain MP. It's a good way to collect free tarots which you can use to summon every personas by painting them. Random encounters can be cleared in one round if you know which fusion spells to use. And here lies the weakness of the game, it's grind heavy. Every 2 dungeons or so you have to switch everyone personas because their stats and skills (or both) are gonna be outdated. You then have to grind to raise these new persona ranks so you will unlock their spells. With no spells and no fusion spells you're pretty much dead. And this repeats itself again and again.

Some dungeons are also frustrating expecially those with invisble pitfalls :lol .I played IS again during the summer and I still love it but like P1 it's clearly not for everybody.

But that's a given. =p

I'm pretty sure based on Hitler & Gay relationships that this won't come to North America... unless they dedicate the money to censor.

Which is completely stupid of course...

Guess it's good I never got too far into the fan translation. Will hold out now until the real release finally gets here.

OMG OMG HYYYYYYYYYPE.

Because there's absolutely nothing gay going on in Persona 4. Nope. Not at all...

If they fix up the interface and make the battle system a little less clunky moving, it'll be an awesome sauce port. Though, looks like it's just Innocent Sin. Guess we'll get Eternal Punishment separately.

In regards to the plot, "P2" means IS and EP combined to me. It's not like P3's Journey and unnecessary Answer.

You make the right points. But to me, if a Megaten's gameplay (which is already considered hardcore by JRPG standards) is "not for everybody" within the fans of the franchise, then it needs to be pimped up.

PSP = Persona System Portable. I'm perfectly fine with that!

And what's this nonsense about Persona 1 not being playable these days? I was shocked at how much fun I thought the game still was when I got my hands on the PSP remake.

Oh, and I'm also not 100% happy about this not being an IS+EP combo remake.

Super pumped for Persona 2. The PSP is a gift that keeps on giving! I'll be there day one.

Almost every Megaten game has shit worse than that now. It'll be rated M anyway so there shouldn't be any problem at all bringing it over here.

I dunno... Maybe stuff like bath scenes and drunk teens, but the rest is pretty tame.

Can't really fathom how Meguro continue to do the direction, since P1 was one of the most bashed remake in recent years, and the soundtrack is easily the most hated one I've ever seen since I started Internet (12~13 years ago).

He served as the directer on P1 mostly because he was about the only original member but Meguro wasn't really involved in P2. Does Atlus now really lack somebody else to full his role instead?

In this day and age, it's not that big of a deal to bring something over like that with no major censoring.

Maybe, but it makes no sense why. The same general time frame (1990s, albeit 1990), EA put out a PC game (Escape from Hell) where not only was Hitler in it, you could recruit him for your party.

Not to mention Hitler being a boss in Wolfenstein 3D

More recently, he was in Operation Darkness (from Atlus)

As to the other issue, haven't we seen releases of that Cho-Anuki (or something like series)?

Wat.

HNNNNNNG.

Atlus US: Translate Persona 2: IS and make Michelle the romance option instead of Jun, please.

Love,
Me.

Hopefully the ESRB has relaxed on the Hitler in a video game thing. I mean they have no problem with FPS' and Operation Darkness. Persona 2 should be safe.

And remake Eternal Punishment as the PSX translation is HORRIBLE even by early Atlus standards. >_>

So this is both parts or just the first part of the best Persona?

It's just Innocent Sin. Unless they pull a fast one and announce two weeks from now that it will also include Eternal Punishment.

There are actually many people who do not like the horrible vocals used in modern Persona games. They were unhappy that this vocals were in Persona PSP. They were also probably a bit miffed that despite the soundtrack being redone, it only contained about half the number of tracks that the PS1 version had, leading to sequences where radically inappropriate tracks were smashed into to cover up the ones they had cut.

Little do these people know that Innocent Sin already has a horrible vocal song lurking within

Whoa, awesome! :D I have EP but never got far in it. I think a more modern take on it (faster text, better menus) may make me play it more.

EDIT: Brain fart. This is IS...awesome :D

Not only is the video game market different than it was 10 years ago, but Atlus US is a very different company than they were back then. I don't see any reason to be concerned about the game not coming over/being censored.

Michelle is also an option but it doesn't seem coded. If you choose Michelle nothing happen and the dialog proceed to the next event :lol . You don't get a new contact combo and Ginko doesn't complain. The others 3 will net new a unique combo contact and Ginko will make a remark. That is pretty much the relationship option of P2 IS :lol .

EDIT : I took pictures during my playthrough during the summer since I wanted to make a thread about it but seeing as my Chrono Cross and PE Gaf plays thread both bombed I didn't bother. I'll try to find one of this event.:D

EDIT 2 : Found it. He are the options. SPOILERS if you never played it.

Excellent! Persona 2: IS and seeing more scans of SSM6(DW7) are good enough for me! :D

It really seems like they want to move Persona to the portable market. Would that possibly be a sign that they want to move "mainstream" SMT (or something else) to the HD Twins?

To be fair, Persona is much more popular than mainline SMT so an HD P5 would make more sense.

Or could it mean they want to move everything to handhelds? SMT 3DS incoming.

I don't understand. Do I get to choose another girlfriend/boyfriend after I max out my current's SLink, or am I stuck with only one girlfriend/boyfriend throughout the game?
