What are your thoughts on it Gaf?

I liked it, although I will admit to being underwhelmed. Tim Burton;s whole career seems like it should of been culminating to this, instead it just seemed to be an Ok movie. Johnny Depp playing the Mad Hatter as a Scotsman was weird too.

Gorgeous creature design...not so great anything else

It suffers from the same problem that Burton's Wonka and various other Alice re-imaginings do. You do not need to 'weird up' Alice In Wonderland. The novel is already as weird as it needs to be, but everyone who gets a hold of the world feels that they just need to make it a little more weirder. That they need to overload the dreaminess so much that the only thing it's missing is the Saved By The Bell pink dream framing.

It comes off as trying too hard to be a spectacle, trying too hard to stand out when a more tame approach on an outlandish property will always translate better and make the abstract parts stand out far more. It's a problem Burton has suffered with for a very, very long time.

Nowhere near as good as it should have been. Like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The idea of Burton doing these films is much more exciting than the actual result.

Couldn't unsee Elijah Wood. Terrible film, barely watchable and I thought CatCF was OK, but not great.

One of the worst movie experiences I've ever had. Me and my company were actually embarrassed when at the end the lights in the theater went on again. "sheesh wtf!?"

A lot less bad that some people think it is, but nothing special and it has a really atrocious ending.

Edit: To the people saying "X is his last good movie" Have you seen the 2012 Frankenweenie? It's really good and absolutely gorgeous to look at. (The 1984 short is also quite excellent)

It was dreary and dull. I was annoyed that Alice thought the entire thing was a dream for about 3/4ths of the movie. Anne Hathaway trying to be weird and quirky was also dumb.

Big Fish is probably my favourite Burton film anyways. Edward Scissorhands is also solid, but I'm not as in love with it as a lot of others are.

I always thought he'd directed The Nightmare Before Christmas, but I was wrong.

Watched it twice, can't recall a damn thing. Incredibly forgetful. And I generally really like the Alice "franchise". Burton's (mediocre) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was an inspiration compared to it. Someone for the love of god split Burton and Depp up forever.

I feel like Burton used up the last of what made him good for Big Fish. He's been an imploding "star" since then.

Great concept, terrible film.

Basically exactly like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Burton is given something you think he's going to excel at, he only gives it half a thought, they spend hundreds of millions to make it and yet the CGI looks incredibly fake and the cinematography is gross and boring and the script is dead, the actors are chewing scenery.

Huge disappointments.

Burton is best when he's allowed to do something he wants to do, that's he's passionate about. Not these "we must have Tim Burton on this project" paychecks

One of the most awful movies I've ever watched. I honestly can't think of anything redeemable about it. I'd hoped that at least the visuals or music would make this film worth the watch for me, but I still hated it. Then again, I've never really liked the story or any of the characters from Alice in Wonderland, so it's not too surprising that I didn't enjoy this adaption either.

You probably should watch more movies then.

Maybe it was because I was hungover at the time but the movie was unbearable to sit through. Truly abysmal.
