Tim Langdell continues trolling by releasing "EDGEBobby2" for iOS

So what does this actually mean in terms of the ongoing trial against EA? Is his case that much stronger or wouldn't it matter since the complaint was filed much earlier? Is this strategy even legal?

Yeah I just wrote mine. Unfortunately I could only review the free one.
Was this you?

If so, hi there Matt.

So what kind of ramifications is this going to cause? Nothing? Seems stupid of him to release this in his current situation.

Ha, that review is mine. I quoted Tekno from this thread since what he said made me rofl so much. Plus, I'm unoriginal, like Tim.

Is there some angle I'm not aware of in naming it "Bobby"? Is there some EA property that has a character named Bobby or something that he's targeting?

Edit: Oh it's from an old C64 game he made. Weird.

It should be pointed out he didn't actually make the original game (which was good for its time), it was just published by The Edge. I doubt he contributed to this one either, but I'm not about to pay money to him to find out!

Is that Shepard?
If the mmo ever comes out I dont doubt the community is going to rip that thing apart and find every stolen bit of material. We will only know the truth then. As of now its just a coincidence.

He should rename it Limbo of the Lost 2 for ultimate trolling.

It wasn't a glorious era.

The 80's weren't a glorious era? Lords of fucking Midnight came out in the 80's, don't tell me what a fucking inglorious era the 80's were...

Any era a Lords of Midnight game came out is glorious, except for the 90's when a shitty Lord of Midnight game came out.

hmm. Edge.

EDGE. That word has a nice little ring to it. I think I'll claim it as my own.

Edge is my word now, everyone.

It whispers sweet nothings in my ear as we walk along the bea--the edge of land at the ocean.

We will be forever happy, Edge and I.

but it was the foundation for the modern video game industry. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania, Kid Icarus, Contra, Final Fantasy, along with a million other IP's were first introduced in that era.

This is probably just a thing to point to when EA's lawyer points out that Tim Langdell hasn't actually produced anything in the past few years that would warrant trademark protection.

Someone needs to put this on Youtube, I refuse to download it even if there's a lite/free version.

Yeah, that's kind of the problem, numbers might be argued as legitimizing his argument even if nobody who picks up the product is happy with it.

Can't review it without playing it.

No ones going to download a one star app.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering, if this could strengthen this guy's case at all then it is seriously a bad thing. And holy hell at that art.

Kind of seems like he accidentally used the name of the executable for the title name when setting up the game on the App Store, given it is called "Bobby Bearing 2" ingame.

From a trademark perspective, there is no need for him to bake "Edge" into the title itself given he released it under that developer name and claims the mark ingame. If he really wanted to use it, he should have called it something like "Bobby Bearing 2 by Edge" and at least it would have been a lot more consumer friendly (though I guess actual sales are not necessarily the desired result depending on what he is trying to achieve).

What *is* he trying to achieve?

As speculated above, releasing something/anything with/under the mark in question to give his claims some kind of credibility perhaps?

I kind of lost track of where all this stuff was at, so I'm guessing blind.

That music is pretty sweet.

You know, while he obviously passes all legal definitions of competency and sanity, I think it's pretty clear the guy has developed some sort of mental problem or compulsion with the word "edge" over the years, and has lost some of his faculties. I'm not even kidding. This original game is obviously the product of a reasonably talented programmer, especially for the 1980s. Whatever the hell he just released on the iOS is from someone who has basically forgotten how to do what he used to do.

I think it's pretty much that the guy realizes that owning this trademark is pretty much his only contribution to society. That losing the trademark is essentially like losing his primary reason for existing on this planet. He won't know what to do with his life if he loses "Edge". And so he's been trying to cling on to it this past year or so, trying to keep it from slipping through his fingers.

The man suffers from no sickness. He is merely sad and pathetic.
