Time: Can My New Company Make Me Change My Name?

Isn't King a title? You can be named King but not Lord?
I believe you can use the terms as names but not as title.

E.g.
Mr. | Edward King = A-OK.
King | Edward Smith = not so OK

Same principle as protected terms for professions, I guess. I can happily call myself Mr. Lewis Doctor, but going by Dr. Lewis Smith is a criminal offence if I'm not actually a doctor.

Wait... it's this person's middle name. It wouldn't be okay if it was their first name or last name either but their MIDDLE name?? Come on...

Who cares what name it is, legally. It's what the dude goes by. If I told the mods that I wanted your username changed because [bullshit reason], you wouldn't mind because it's not your legal first or last name?

Either way, I fully expect your new coworker to get a secret meeting with the Pope in the near future.

Anyone going by their middle name or a name other than their first either are named after someone or don't like their first name in my experience.

It is common courtesy to oblige. "Religious" reasons is being a tool.

Fuck your "religious" beliefs. It's my religious beliefs that you should not be allowed to work in this company, how about that?

I go by my middle name, and it wasn't my decision. First name is fine. Parents just have always called me by my middle name. Not sure how someone could think that is pretentious.

I always have to go by my legal name for pay things and legal documents and such. This story is weird. Not sure someone could object to that name...

Only in America...

I honestly don't know whats weirder... Someone giving a kid the 2nd name King or someones religious believes being offended by it.

I named my Cyndaquil in pokemon Crystal King. I was making a group with the theme of playing cards. Ah, memories.

Seriously though, it's horrible that people hide behind such a flimsy excuse to force people to conform to certain beliefs. Ugh.

Thanks for that :P I have gone by my middle name since the day of my birth. I have the same first name as my father (it's a family name passed down) and I have always had problems with people INSISTING on using my first name, despite the fact that I don't. I just had a bad experience applying for a new job. The HR woman refused my cancelled check to add me to payroll because my check had only my middle name and last name on it and not my unused first name. She made me drive to the bank and add my first name to my account. Then she used whiteout on all the forms I signed and made me sign using the first name I don't use. Employers are weird.

...Haven?

No. Fuck that person's religious beliefs. God I hate that excuse. Its a cover for so many shitty things.

Yeah, where does the company even draw the line if they wanna humor this kind of nonsense? What if she said she's also religiously offended that her coworkers' names don't have the prefix "God freaing" attached to them? Are they gonna comply with that as well?

Wtf.
