Time Crisis 4 and Guncon 3 announced

My first reaction to this was "oh my god" - new lightgun games and/or ports are generally a nice thing, and TC4 is pretty decent.

Then I saw the gun. Please tell me that abomination of a handle/stick/whatever the **** it is on the front can be removed. Way to ruin an otherwise good-looking peripheral, Namco!

Doesn't the death of CRT make that impossible?

That Wired story says it's using a camera and is extremely Wii-like. I don't see how they get any more accuracy than Wii.

Maybe it uses better, more precise electronics. Not all optical mice have the same precision, etc. I've never seen a tech that wasn't refined over time. Maybe even though it's Wii-like it isn't even the exact same tech. Stuff can always be improved. :)

And add weight.

That side grip thing is ridiculous! The buttons on the side of the original Guncon worked fine...but I still want recoil damnit.

I think the nasty front part is for the multiple screens you have to manage. Namco should really consider dropping that and using the SIXAXIS instead of using the analog stick to change screens, the SIXAXIS would be perfect for those sections.

Amusingly, all online reports of Time Crisis 4 and the Cuncon 3 have been removed from Japanese websites today (famitsu.com, IT Media, etc.)

ERASED FROM HISTORY! Nintendo suing over Wiimote patent confirmed? :lol

i don't see anything amusing about potential snags in the tc4/guncon 3 release :/

hopefully it's just a press embargo or something

well its basically the same thing though. gun has a camera, camera sees sensors to see where its pointing. maybe the guncon camera has a wider viewing angle so it can see more so its harder to lose track of the sensors, and having the sensors on opposite sides of the tv (rather than a little bar) probably helps as well.

on top of that, it should have a basic calibration setup. i played ghost squad recently and it had a calibration screen...but then again house of the dead 4 didnt. both machines had a row of ir leds above and below the screen. didnt check the time crisis 4 machine, but it was probably using a similar setup.

So this game (made on PS2 hardware) has a weapon with an infrared camera, which has a wired nunchuk attachment that has an analog stick and 2 buttons plugged into that weapon... and it will require the placement of infrared lightsources by your TV...

And... it's... being...released...for... PS3? Did I get this right?

I have a Wii and I'd love to see some real lightgun (not 'pointer') games, and hopefully we do get them and it works great.

2 words: pointer recalibration. Somebody's gotta implement it at some point.

GunCon 4! :) :lol

The collector's edition should come with that awesome ****ing speaker that is on the front of the arcade machine. When people started talking to me and I noticed that was a speaker I was like "OH S***":D

First off, this should come as no shock and should be expected that Time Crisis 4 should be on the PS3 since the Time Crisis franchise has always been on Playstation systems. Namco has created a Guncon for both PS1 and PS2 for their games and has mentioned numerous times that their lightgun is the most accurate (which is true) opposed to any 3rd party. I am sure that Namco will continue the tag line of the most accurate lightgun available for PS3 and won't feature that onscreen targeting reticle BS that the Wii uses. Both Namco Guncons are officially licensed products by SCE and SCEE even publishes Namco's lightgun games in PAL land. I am still waiting for more info on the Guncon3 but at least there is no on screen targeting reticle pointer crap like in the Arcade version of Time Crisis 4.

I am waiting to see how much Namco is going to charge for the standalone Guncon3 in Japan (I am guessing $40-$50)but if it's anything like the past Guncon1 and Guncon2, Namco is charging you only roughly half of what the Guncon cost if purchased alone. In contrast here is an example:

$49.99 PS2 Time Crisis 3
$39.99 PS2 Guncon2
$59.99 PS2 Time Crisis 3 w/Guncon2 bundle

Savings of $30.

Most likely scenario given the price by eb/gamestop:
$89.99 PS3 Time Crisis 4 w/Guncon3 bundle
$59.99 PS3 Time Crisis 4
$39.99-$49.99 PS3 Guncon3

Namco is charging you $30 for the Guncon3 in that bundle?

Typical "Oh this X game should be on the Wii" nonsense again. Yeah pretend that you always liked the series. Oh, I went there.

I'm sold if Capcom decides to bring more GunCon REs to the PS3. Which seems like a longshot at this point because Umbrella Chronicles is on Wii. :/ (not necessarily a bad thing)

Not looking forward to spending $100+ to import the theoretical bundle pack, that's for sure.

Looks nice, shame the US release will be some ugly ass color
Isn't crazy when you think about this: Firearms are your constitutional right, but owning a fake gun that looks real is no no...

Won't be a longshot for Gun Survivor 5 since Umbrella Chronicles is not a Gun Survivor game?

Umbrella Chronicles isn't a Gun Survivor game but I can see its gameplay vein taking over the first person segment of the RE series if its successful. Capcom's expecting almost 700K worldwide for that one, easily more than the previous GS games. I don't think any GS game cracked 500K worldwide. Maybe the original.

Then I hope to god that the next Biohazard Gun Survivor game will not be on rails and without an on-screen targeting reticle pointer :-/

Namco lightgun bundles were $60 for PS2. The games were sold alone at $40 and even in Japan and Europe, the Guncon2's where separately for $40. Purchasing the bunlded saves $20 at least. If the online retailers are correct, then Time Crisis 4 + Guncon 3 at $90 = $60 for standalone Time Crisis 4 and $30 for Guncon3. Not bad. Also this is the 10th anniversary of the series this year. So maybe Namco has a Time Crisis 4 10th anniversary bundle in mind like with Tekken 5 Collector's Edition. Wishful thinking:

Time Crisis 4 10th Anniversary Collector's Edition
+Guncon3 backwards compatible with past PS1/PS2 Guncon titles
+Arcade mode
+1st person Mission mode (Rush focused)

Hm, so this is just your wishful thinking? :S

I would definitely get this if it were real.

Better hope Umbrella Chronicles bombs badly. :P

It would be very nice if Namco released Guncon 3 compatible versions of its back catalog of gun games on PSN.

That would be awesome, with online coop too.

looking forward to this. Hope the sensors don't have to be on your tv - eg I can put them in the corners of my TV cabinet. As long as their calibration is ok that might work.

Shame its wired.

Horrible color. Guncon2 looked much better

I hope there will be a third party gun with acceptable force feedback. I'd pay 150$ for an arcade like Guncon. It adds alot to the game.

Has there ever been a descent force feedback gun for PS2?

Thanks!
From the scans->

->The game is 60% complete and is coming out end of 2007

->Its arcade perfect port.

->In full mission mode (an extra mode of PS3 version) you can move freely in the field. You get to see the whole game from captain Rush's point of view.

Thanks for the scans and the translation.

Has anyone played the arcade version of Time Crisis 4? How does it compare to part 2 and 3?

Well, the GS team (Studio 3) sort of doesn't exist anymore... so I'm doubting it. :/

Why Crisis Zone and Time Crisis 2? They were ported to PS2....
Right now only Time Crisis was arcade-inperfect port (from Super System 22 to PS1)

Because even though both Time Crisis 2 and Crisis Zone were released and upgraded on the PS2, it would be great to play perfect original arcade versions like Tekken 5 had in its Arcade History/Gallery mode for its past titles. Time Crisis 2 Arcade version has a better soundtrack than the "arranged" version that the PS2 version. Crisis Zone for PS2, was superior in almost every way than the Arcade version (The soundtrack for the PS2 version is godly compared to the Arcade version), however I would like to play with the original STF and URDA designs. The STF's redesign in the PS2 version was awesome, but the URDA redesigns is a mixed bag. Gone is the beret's and gas masks all the enemies wore :-/ Plus the narrator's voice in the Arcade version > PS2 version.
"ZOOOOOOOONNNE Select".

I agree with the fact Time Crisis 1 is only title to not get a perfect port since the resolution was cut in half for the PSone version.

Great, then I guess Umbrella Chronicles can be considered the next "GS" game in spirit :/

Terror Bites SUCK.

Otherwise, I'd say it holds up pretty well. Plenty of interesting scenarios to keep you on your toes - challenge level seems about standard for the series. However, like I said, Terror Bites can go bite the big one.

Overall, Time Crisis 3 is still my favourite.

Yeah, pretty much what's just been said - it has too many House of the Dead moments with this Terror Bites stuff, I'd rather be shooting crazy terrorists. At least Wild Dog's in the mix.

Great game, though, fantastic presentation. Just not as good as 3 for me, though.
