Time: RNC Chief issues warning to Trump

If (well... when) Trump loses, I think the general thought is that he'll call the election rigged, Democrats are evil, Hillary is a corporate shill, etc... but I think also equally interesting is that he'll probably tear the GOP a new a-hole. Now he obviously just makes shit up all the time and spouts it off as true, but I'm sure he has some actual dirt on certain Republicans. Could be interesting come November.

If Trump wins he will have figured out a way to get elected to the White House with comparatively tiny campaign funding, next to no ground game, no discernable policy, no effort in messaging, and severe deficiencies in polls. He will have pulled off the most miraculous election in US history, and will no doubt have Republican strategists working 24/7 trying to turn Trump's insanity into a formula they could exploit for future elections. It's going to become a full-on political movement and Republicans will ride the wave as much as possible. After all, Trump will have essentially activated political God Mode!

If he gets elected there's no chance a Republican will say no to him, ever. Not only will they not try to control him, they will actively imitate him too.

My point is that they are still trying to put lipstick on a pig. They need to stop now and ask themselves why they are trying to get a pig into office. That pig will ruin the party and the country like never before.

Ha fucked if they do, fucked if they don't. Trump is going to hurt their candidates no matter how they spend the money. No enthusiasm for the Presidential candidate will hurt turnout. Trump supporters disenfranchised by candidates distancing themselves from him aren't going to be motivated to vote for anyone they consider an establishment Republican. The fear of a Trump presidency will help Dem turnout and lots and lots of straight ticket voters. Moderates had a look at Trump post convention and the polls show them running in terror.

“Reince Priebus is a terrific guy,” Trump told TIME on Tuesday. “He never said that.” Trump also said that the Republican Party should be grateful for his recent fundraising. “Why would they state that when I am raising millions of dollars for them?” Trump asked, rhetorically.

Says it all, really.

Gun to my head, what I'd do in that position is drop all the social stuff while trying to cut out the shitheads. There are a bunch of people who love the idea of low taxes and small government if they don't have to shake hands with racist homophobes to get it. A more old school GOP would appeal to moderates much more than the current version does (heck, the early 2000s version would too). Enough to make up for the loss of the bigot vote? Maybe.
They need to time a major social platform change just before the next economic downturn while a Dem is President.

I could see Clinton cutting a deal with the gop over congress in that she'll quietly stay out of some races this year in order to get tpp passed in the lame duck session, hinging probably on Gop word to pass some domestic spending to offset job losses that will occur due to tpp's passage.

Her entire legacy as sos was built on the back of the pivot, and tpp is the cornerstone of that. People who honestly believe she's against it need a reality check.

That's... quite the theory you have there.

can someone get some fabreeze the smell of burning shit is repulsive. Oh and a blanket, the gop is just...unsightly to civilized eyes.

I wonder if the GOP and Fox News know that most democrats view them as they see Trump. The only difference is that they know how to word their message in a ambiguously racist way. Trump just doesn't leave room for justification like they do.

The officials said Priebus described to Trump internal party polls that show his campaign headed in the wrong direction. Priebus told Trump that he would have been better off had he spent the days since the Republican convention at his Mar-a-Lago Club, officials said.

ice cold.

Poor GOP. Whatever did they do to deserve this?

That's the thing we all have to remember is how a lot of really good people have been completely blindsided by this. Personally going to reward them all with votes for sticking through it, even those that had to side with Trump just out of necessity -- I get it, but of course #nevertrump. Makes it all the more disgusting.

There's absolutely going to be more ticket-splitting this time around than in many previous elections, since Trump is such an historically awful candidate. It's easy to see people voting for Clinton because she's the only one who can be trusted with the nuclear codes but otherwise backing Republicans.

However, I think the GOP is being exceedingly optimistic about its capacity to turn out voters if they abandon the presidential race months in advance. There are a lot of voters who only care about the top of the ticket; that's why turnout in presidential elections is so much higher. If they don't feel they have a dog in that fight, I imagine there'll be a decent number who don't show up.

So the "warning" was about his political success and has nothing to do wth the unabashedly hateful and dangerous things he's been saying in a daily basis.

The RNC is going to have nothing but empty threats for Trump. They allowed this clown to get where he is, and they have no viable alternative now. Too little, too late.

Yeah Trump really has nothing to lose anymore. He doesn't even want to win and he will always have his riches. He's already looking forward to his long vacation as he said himself.

Unless the GOP finds their dusty balls somewhere, he is just gonna continue to burn everything in his way. This is basically just a fun hobby for him.
