Holy shit, it's kind of crazy that Undertale would be mentioned in a 'mainstream' list like this. Pretty awesome.

Kind of strange at #1 but Prune is great.

No, but neither is Undertale.

Undertale can easily get into lists for reasons other than mass appeal (like the writer of the article focusing on the meta elements) and it was low on the list, it also happens to be a good game, many gaffers give it goty status, i can understand why the author would add it.

Bloodborne wouldn't bring the same cred to the list as an indie sleeper hit that deconstructs the genre.

Serious question, do y'all believe games like Bloodborne have mass appeal? like, honestly, i know the game is crazy good.

But really, do y'all think Bloodborne is the kind of game that appeals to the masses?
Let's make it even more simple, maybe Time just didn't like it enough to put it in its top 10.
Crazy!

02: Rise of the Tomb Raider (PS4, lol)

The "too early to write GOTY stuff" argument makes no sense.

If you wait until 2016 it's:

A) after the holiday sales
B) after everyone else published their list
So no one will give two shits about your list.

Also the logistics of making a magazine probably means it's way more practical to do it now.

Besides, even if you moved it to the very end of the year, that would just mean the Januari games would get shafted instead of the December ones.

And you seem to not want to accept their opinion.

Just because your favorite game isn't listed doesn't mean it's wrong.

Eh, in the sense that technically speaking no opinion is ever wrong, sure.

Yes. It sold very well and is going to clean up during awards season from the mainstream gaming publications. Souls games haven't been niche for years.

I like seeing weird lists like this, reminds me what a wonderfully diverse medium this is,with strange small titles standing up with AAA giants.

This is where I am on it. Mainstream games press tends to ignore neat little experiments on other platforms. Look at people in this topic saying iOS is somehow not a viable platform for games. Like, what?

Totally trying Prune. Hopefully it has a tighter clipping window than Bloodborne does a dodging one.

Edit: I'm not hating on Bloodborne. But lord, position-bitching about lists without any actual conversation about it are so worthless, people. These topics are bullet-riddled with drive-by posts.

It'd be pretty awesome if more top 10 lists had a game that I hadn't played at the top. That is so much more interesting than someone else liking a thing I liked.

No, but neither is Undertale.

Plus that'd be like Nas not being able to get on an album of the year list because he wasn't ever as popular and radio friendly as Pac, Snoop, Jay-Z etc and didn't have as much crossover appeal as like a Nelly or something. Too much slang, too many schemes etc.

I know Prune. It's a cool game that does clever things with its simple premise.

Is it better than Undertale, The Witcher 3 or Bloodborne? Not even close. But maybe this particular outlet is trying to point out a game that would be of interest to its target audience.

I hope the bloodborne whining isn't a sign of things to come in goty threads, god forbid there are a variety of games on such a list.

Maybe check out prune before lamenting that your favourite game is missing?

No. Bloodborne like my dream pop collection. I'd rather listen to Tear Wave, Cocteau Twins and Siddal instead of Katy Perry and Justin Bieber. Do I know which sounds better? Yes the dream pop by a very very very wide margin. Does it appeal to the masses? No.

How is Bloodborne not on the list?

I don't fully agree with the list in the OP either, but...

....I wonder if Bloodborne is gonna be this year's Bayonetta 2 on GAF. That is, the game with such a vocal fanbase that every "best of" list is gonna have some sort of "No Bloodborne!?" post in it.

But the answer is pretty simple, actually. The writer enjoyed better or thought at least 10 games were better than Bloodborne. I understand the appeal of Souls games, but those games aren't for everyone.

iOS games will always be #1 according to Time.
Why shouldn't they be?

Or maybe they thought it was the best game of 2015.

Probably. These are some of the games I'd probably recommend to regular people. I'd even recommend Helldivers to someone like that.

Prune is awesome.

Great to see Her Story as well.

I really need to check out Undertale.

No Fallout 4 or Life Is Strange = sadface.

Great list overall.

It's a token iOS/Android game put at #1 for clickbait and to highlight how mobile is ruining the market or some crap.

Ha!

This man gets it.

Prune is so bought! Day 1... oh, wait... when was that released?!

Right now the only games I've really played from 2015 consist of: Bloodborne, Rocket League, Life is Strange, The Order 1886, Broken Age, Cities: Skyline and Her Story. Not a shabby collection but hardly everything that was released worth playing.

Good list.

Also people need to stop treating these lists as a call to always ask, "where is game X?!"

Use them to expose you to games you may have overlooked.

The same reactions are getting tiring every year.

No Bloodborne and the highest rated ps4 exclusive is Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Can't take this seriously

Right, no arguing that. I was just responding to the they gave the PS4 its due comment :p

You guys are taking my posts far too seriously. Of course people will say this or that is right or wrong. It's just what we do. The guy can have his opinions, that's fine.
Ah that's why you got to repeat it every ten posts, because it's fine to have an opinion different from yours. What you are doing is nothing but condescending.

You don't have to, post yours so we can get into some serious discussion.
