(TIP) Get a real Job

My favourite part is that his reasons for doing it and the message he left are entirely incongruous. If he did it because he expects customer service to grovel at his feet, and this person obviously didn't do so to his satisfaction, then surely "do a better job" would be a more apt message?

The job can't be that bad if you are working in a restaurant which is serving meals for about 133$, am I right? Am I? Guys?

I have lunch at this spot every now and then, it's not hard to rack up a $100 bill here. So the fellow who left the tip did so because he heard the waiter mention the 99% / 1% thing?

I would think that a real job wouldn't require you to rely on gifts from strangers to make up most of your paycheck.

It's not a gift though. It's a merit based income. You do a better job? You get a better tip. At least, that's how it's supposed to work. I remember reading about this, and the last I heard they were planning to find out exactly who the customer was so they could "have a chat" with him the next time he came in.

I haven't worked in the food industry, but I definitely give those people props for juggling so damn much at one time. I won't reward shit service (bad service = 10-15% tip, or in extreme cases insult tip), but I *definitely* reward good-great service (20%+).

In Germany we don't tip 20% and we reserve the right to tip nothing if the service was bad.

He's rude, but messing with someone's food is NEVER EVER justified or excusable. People willing to do this or whishing it on someone else should never be allowed near any kind of product that is ingested by humans or animals.

I have worked in a kitchen serving food to hundreds of camp kids as a summer job for a couple of weeks, btw.

People get upset if 1% of their customers are assholes trying to be witty? I consider working for tips to be a real job, but if you can't shoulder something as petty as this, you don't deserve a real job.

Nursery school.

I believe that Fjolle is being ironic in order to make a point about the unfairness of the minimum wage in the US, which effectively mandates sycophantic behaviour from customer service people because they rely on tips to survive.

It's totally different in most places as they're not paying you a wage of $2 an hour. A waiter's livelihood is in their tips. A 1% tip is an insult.

Some sick fucks in here hoping for "special sauce" in the customers food.

That's a good way of getting your restaurant shut down and probably arrested. You mightn't like shit tips but jizzing in food? Pathetic.

People who are struggling to get by on 300k a year and feel way too poor to be called middle class.

Yeah but that's one lunch, if he eats like this evey lunch then it would be at least a $1000 a week(assuming he buys dinner also) and just think about for a year. But what do I know I'm just a poor ass student so you may be right.

This is assuming neither party ever returns to the restaurant.

True, but I think that's a safe assumption. Someone who insults a waitress on a receipt is probably afraid of direct confrontation and wouldn't be returning to that same restaurant anytime soon.

And post with least amount of insight into reality goes to this guy!

I guess Breanna should just not work in food service whatsoever. I mean, jobs are so plentiful now, right?

EDIT: Outside of the pedantic tipping thread this is already turning into, if you can't see that it takes a special kind of asshole to write "get a real job" on a receipt, then you are probably cut from the same cloth as this banker.

The guy who left the tip was a banker. That whole industry would be dead if it weren't for giant "gifts" (bailouts) from "strangers" (taxpayers)

This is a myth. I've worked at restaurants for quite a while and this never happens. Its mostly because it can't. Noone can possibly do anything to your food. Its way too risky. And even if they decide to give you bad service the servers are still fucked since you can just complain to the manager and it ends there.

I have been working in restaurants for quite a while myself and it definitely isn't a myth. It is extremely difficult to do in a properly run restaurant but with the exceptions of cameras or a hot line that opens into the seating area, it is definitely possible to get away with it and if a hot waitress wants something there will usually be a cook willing to do it for her. For the record, I have and never would do something like this. And forget about people intentionally doing it, there are plenty of unsanitary places that continue to operate somehow. If owners can get away with running these places then employees can definitely get away with some spit in the sauce. It'd be naive to think it never happens.

This is South Florida talking though. Place I worked in Miami had the same inspector come every time, place was infested with fruit flies and they always had lexans of fish on the floor (legally have to be something like 6" off the floor) and they rarely had the fish on ice draining properly among a thousand other minor things. Quite a few line cooks couldn't answer basic sanitation questions if you were to quiz them. Something real fishy about that place, head chef loved the shit out of that inspector. Was always cheerful and joking around him. They were either bribing the inspector or he's just terrible at his job.

a banker who doesnt believe in getting a bonus if you do a bad job? haha yeah right.
pretty typical that he cant actually calculate 1% of the bill accurately though.

Obviously, but it also takes a special kind of asshole to then assert that people working in banking, finance, wealth management, etc. are the ones not making an honest living an are all assholes who don't tip.

Social darwinism at play and this banker is the alpha male wolf.

Nope. Not even close. He's a gigantic wuss, actually. Leaving a passive aggressive insulting note when you're long gone to some working woman is about as far away from "alpha" as you can get.

Obviously, but it also takes a special kind of asshole to then assert that people working in banking, finance, wealth management, etc. are the ones not making an honest living an are all assholes who don't tip.

Sure. Who said that though? Certainly not me.

If the restaurant is charging $133 for a lunch and isn't giving their employees decent wages that don't rely on tips then that restaurant doesn't deserve anyone's patronage.

Good chance he has a corporate card and this was part of his per diem. $133 seems really high, but maybe he has a higher limit.

What an obnoxious fucking thing to do. Maybe next time if he orders seafood make the tartar sauce extra tangy...

Or, drag him outside and beat him. A few stitches should teach him to leave a better tip next time.

I'm sure the police would understand if you explained that he left too small of a tip.

Except that you know it will go TOO far, like these things always do.

Anyways, this looks fake.

One: If it's real, it couldn't possibly go too far. Well, death would obviously be too far, but I think that's an unrealistic outcome.

Two: You're probably right. I'm hoping it's fake. I need to believe it's fake.

Waiters get about 10 euros per hour here. I get around 14 as an engineer. No way I'm tipping when their salary isn't that much lower than mine, and with much less responsible job.

He mad cause his trophy wife is getting plowed every day by her personal trainer, and his daughter is a 99'er who's also probably getting plowed by a 'smelly hipster'. Stay classy 1 percent. Show The Man that you aren't gonna take his shit!

Yes. The kind of chucklefucks who love to run this kind of shit up the internet flagpole in hopes of conjuring some sort of overwrought outrage are the same kind of people who would jerk off in food.

The guy's a complete prick.

I wonder what kind of industry this banker is, investment banking or in the mortgage side of business? He can't be THAT broke if he can afford that kind of lunch lol.

I hope it's fake.

Waiters in America get a lot less than 10 euro/hour. They are employed and often paid less on the belief that tips will supplement their income enough. Tipping has become a part of American culture whether people like it or not. Europe has a different culture.

This took place in America. Waiters here are paid less than 2 euros per hour
