Titanfall Beta (PC/Xbone) Impressions (No Key Begging/Trading or I will ban you!)

Beta still up for me.
When the achievements going to leak?

Throughout the beta I'd say 50MS was the average ping to datacenter east for me.

dont know what im going to do with my life after Titanfall actually launches... but meh, we will take it as it comes.

Welp.

Should I even bother getting the game? I mean, I had fun and all that, but I'm still so bad at basically 3 days of FPS experience ever.

I've enjoyed the beta way more than I thought I would, there was only 2 maps and I put 26 hours into it! Everything about the game felt really great, apart from the micro-stuttering which I expect they will fix before launch. Screen tearing wasn't as apparent as I feared beforehand, I refuse to play with v-sync on, especially in first-person shooters where I think input lag is more noticeable. Would have loved a bit more recoil to the weapons, but the gunplay felt great nonetheless.

No place to go but up right?

Bottom line, did you have fun? Then yes. Are your friends going to play it? Then absolutely yes.

And you can go 0-10 in Hardpoint and still help your team win. k/d isn't everything.

Yeah, I tried hardpoint. Seems like that would be more fun with friends. Then at least they can carry me too.

I think the lightning smoke is my favorite thing in this game.

Oddly enough being in a titan fight then having to eject is one of my fav things.

Just in the air figuring out where to land is fun. or when someone else ejects same time as you and you have a mid air fight.

It's so great, I don't know if I can use anything else in the full game. Strong counter to a rodeo, amazing in hardpoint if they can reach the spot and just soak the place, works well in a titan v titan fight...so good. Also got me to improve my titan fighting as you have to work on dodging vortex shots and everything else.

You can't stay a borderline mindless bot forever! ...no offense, my stats are similar to yours.

I pre-ordered it tho. It's fun and you got to start improving somewhere and it's better to do so on a new game the community hasn't mastered.

I'm back and forth on it. Once people are more aware of electric smoke, they'll rodeo and jump off the moment the smoke appears. The damage doesn't happen immediately so they can hide and then jump back on or harass while another titan engages.

Vortex is definitely superior in terms of titan vs titan. Vortex is just another burst of damage while you protect yourself and potentially regenerate armor while your potentially does not. And you get time for your ordinance to recharge.

Both are really well balanced against eachother tbh. But I think teamwork (to get rodeos off your back) and vortex is the best combination. In last titan standing, I would have at least 1 to 2 guys bring electric smoke regardless, to buy time against a rush on the flanks so your team can reposition and respond.

Dodging vortex is so easy though. I find electric smoke far more versatile. The main thing I like the shield for is archer shots.

Final Beta stats:
I would have been higher but the last couple of days, I got stuck with some truly awful pub teams.

So all of this was using the 360 pad on PC. So yea I would say gamepads are competitive.

Major Nelson said over an hour ago only 30 minutes left lol. They are really letting us milk it to the last drop.

Probably will go down any minute.

Thing about enemy rodeos is you can hear them getting on and as soon as I do, I trigger it immediately. It might not kill a skilled player but it will significantly reduce them to near nothing, making them pretty easy to pick off. Or you can trigger smoke and then get off and kill them as well.

I love the smoke in Last Titan Standing because it's great for choke points, or if you happen to flank them and they unsuspectingly stand it it for too long. The vortex is too easy to avoid.

It's the best mode on the beta by far, IMO. I only played attrition on the first day when I couldn't find a hardpoint match.

Attrition is your basic screw-around FFA mode. Decent to get warmed up in but there isn't much to it.

Hardpoint is where I saw some genuine teamwork happening even in pubs with no communication. Since you get far more points in that mode from actually playing the objectives than just going around killing, players were more likely to attack and protect the objectives instead of just lone wolfing it.

Smoke is also particularly nice in this early stage of the game because so many Titan players have a tendency to just rush towards you for whatever reason, and smoke punishes them nicely for that.

I've also settled on Chaingun + Accelerator in my Titan loadout instead of 40mm. It's a lot more versatile than the other beta weapons and if you aim at critical points it can do significant amounts of damage to a Titan.

Dodging electric smoke is very easy as well and you need to be in a vulnerable spot to begin with. It doesn't do its damage immediately either.

I don't use electric smoke to cause damage to titans, dodge it all you want. I use it to block sight and get pilots off of my back. Shield can't do either of those at all.

Final beta stats. Felt like a God among men...

All of this with a 360 controller on PC.

Yeah well I killed more Titans than you!

Seriously people need to learn how great electric smoke is. Or just stop ignoring when a pilot jumps on their Titan.

Yeah that's awesome. Sometimes at the end when we're evacuating, I let the other teams titans kill me so I can eject and land right on the ship as it leaves.

I love it in titan fights. Jump up to them and blast it, then jump back.

Also I just had an amazing comeback round. I joined a hardpoint game with a team behind like 200-50 and we managed to inch it out. Super satisfying.

I love just going to point C in angel city and dropping smoke. All the pilots need to get out or they die, and it pushes titans out so you can cap the point. Even has a hole in the ceiling to eject through!

Had a fun time with the beta, much more than I expected as I'm not a fan of CoD and that ilk. I'm more of a Quake and Tribes sort of person.

The TTK is far too short and hitscans too ubiquitous for this to be a proper successor to something like Quake, as was mentioned earlier in the thread, but I do really like the game's emphasis on mobility. I can see player movement becoming really intricate in matches as time goes on and players become more acclimated to it.

Curious to see how the rest of the maps and game modes shape up, and also how the sniper starts to really figure in. In the beta, games were dominated by the automatics and the shotgun, so one thing to look out for in the full game is potentially more open maps where snipers can become really dominant. If nothing else the sniper should always be fairly strong at spotting enemy targets on most maps, which alone is tremendously useful. Though I'm looking at that from more of a competitive angle, where there is constant voice communication. Not sure if they intend to add team binds or some sort of ability to spot with the full game.

I tried the eject technique into drop didn't seem to work for me -- I just flew right through the evac ship any tips?

Also, is anyone worried that the beta>retail changes will be something bad? Just a little paranoia that is left over from the Halo betas.

Finally, taking down Titans is one of my favorite things. I think of them as mini boss battles and it's tons of fun. Love fighting Titans a lot more than pilots. Man, this game is amazing. It's crazy how rare of a gem Respawn developed.

Ugh, its painful how much I love this game.

Its gonna be some bullshit standing by for titanfall.

Oh yeah I've been killed by grunts. Usually by my own ego thinking I can take like 6 on at a time.

Just fell through the ground in my last game. First true beta moment lol. Immediately died.

That happened to me nearly everytime I used the respawn card. I would respawn, fall through the floor and then magically reappear. Every single time.
