Titanfall is nothing to be excited about

The thing I don't get most about Titanfall is that people are making a big deal out of the 'vertical' gameplay and the pilot movement. It's like Tribes never existed, or any other number of games with jetpacks.

It looks like a fun little shooter with mechs and tribes style movement. The way people talk about it, you'd think it was the most important thing to ever happen to the shooter genre.
That's how I feel about it too. Nothing to me seems truly new, but the combination could be really great.

Alas, I've not played yet so I don't have strong feelings for or against it.

Haha, you haven't even begun to see the huge hype machine that Titanfall is gonna have. MS paid tons of cash to EA to keep this off Playstation platforms. They have no other "exclusives" in the same window. They're gonna market the HELL out of this game.

I'm over the Mechs aspect of the game, I'm more interested in how PvP works and match types. They have spent so much time talking about the Mechs with the limited edition unveiling and now these two videos.

So ever since it's reveals I am still not sure what is everyone's obsession with this game. Why is this even so hyped? I've seen people in threads bash COD and then go on to praise Titanfall like its gonna do something new with the genre.

But from everything i've read and seen for this game, it's basically the multiplayer for COD but more Future warfare (Robots) and some jumping around from Brink. The gameplay looks pretty much EXACTLY like COD, down to the points and a thousand banners popping on the screen after a kill. Yeah they got double jump now and some running, mechs seem cool but all of this has been done many times in FPS before and probably better. Mechs pretty much look like the same gameplay but at a slower pace.

Maybe I'm jaded but I expect more of the same COD experience with a few new twists. Like every other COD clone out there.

Microsoft's marketing.

Just a generic shooter for me... only with robots.

I've played it and I wasnt that impressed. Spent 90% of the demo spawn camping the enemy team. There seems little point in not being in a Titan when it's available. The AI soldiers dont seem to serve any purpose other than giving the illusion of a bigger MP player count. The map we played was also kinda shit and felt too small.

Personally, I do not give a flying fuck about Titanfall.

Never did, don't now, and most likely, never will.

I still wish they had ditched forced ADS gameplay to allow us to shoot while running along building accurately, but the game still looks very compelling to me.

It just gives me that feeling where Respawn has laid out the tools to make every match will unique with literally thousands of possible outcomes.

I never really noticed it until I sat down and watched the recent gameplay today...why the hell does this game have ADS? You have all this mobility from the human side to the titans then you have ADS to slow it down? Seems pointless.

I agree with OP, but people like what they like so if you don't... just leave them to it I guess...

I'm looking forward to other games much more (UC4, Infamous, Destiny, Quantum Break, Division) but if someone want's titanfall it's their choice, though I do see more excitement for it from games press than fans.

Since its reveal, I have always thought it's a next Gen StarHawk. But, the press and its limited short sighted vision think it is new and it is not.

Cant wait for its release.

Since I didnt get cod this year, Titanfall will be my go to shooter next year.

My buds are getting the pc version.

Vanquish made it before...

lol vanquish.

Media is hyping it up to be the next mainstream hit ala CoD or GTA, all I see is another multiplayer shooter with robots.

This.

The only game (strangely enough) that has serious traction around several different groups of my casual friends is The Division. I don't understand that hype either, outside of being a graphical showpiece, but at least I know several very casual players, who know about the game's existence.

I agree, this last gen has sapped my interest in these types of games. I'm sure it'll be good, but I just can't get excited for it.

Putting focus back on player movement isn't new, but it's definitely welcome in the current FPS landscape.

Now you're just being disingenuous. The mobility of the players has the chance to push the shooter genre forward like absolutely no other shooters have done in the past year or so.

I'm curious, what upcoming games are you looking forward to, OP?

I can see how people are hyped for it to be honest. It looks like a fresh take on Call of Duty.

If you like Call of Duty games, you probably really like this game. If you don't, then it probably does nothing for you. I am personally kinda done with that style of game.

Treyarch/Infinity Ward better step up their fucking game though. That old trash they keep pumping out year after year ain't gonna cut it anymore me thinks.

I'm tired of COD. Everything I've seen and played of it (at pax prime) feels refreshing from everything being like COD mp (even Halo 4).

I like the vertically of the game. It opens up so much different things not only with the way people play it but the way the level designers can set up maps.

Having Titans in the match makes the battle feel bigger than it looks. For people who aren't too keen on it they should really try it at least just to see what Respawn brings to the MP scene.

I think it seemed underwhelming to me just because when I heard it described before E3 they were saying mechs meets crackdown so I was expecting something like hard sci-fi, like superheros flying around punching gigantic 300 foot tall Pacific Rim robots.

It looks fun, but very shooter/call of duty/military/near future so it's hard for me to get excited like a lot of other people.

Yes, there's more excitement from the people that actually got to play it than the people that haven't. Imagine that.

I think mainly because the big name attach to it that make the different.
It like Blizzard making a moba, ND making a zombie game, it's been done before, but now its from the most critical acclaim studio making it.

Looks like the next cod 4, plenty to be excited about.

Trust me, me and my friends waited for like an hour in line to play it. It was amazing

It looks fun. I mean everyone who hypes it have usually played it. Find it interesting you're being negative about a game you haven't played. I think one reason for why everyone loves the game as a MP fps is because bots are mixed in with actual people and I guess you're not constantly dying like in COD so the average person plays it and gets kills in a MP game and loves it. Its that feeling of empowerment which I believe makes people love it.

Tribes was(is) great, but it's not like people are saying that Titanfall is inventing anything new here. I think it owes a lot to Tribes and probably 2142 as well. The game can be derivative and still enjoyable. Titanfall doesn't look like it's reinventing gaming but it looks fun as hell, and that's what matters to me.

Shooters are so homogenous right now that any variety is welcome. I think Titanfall is doing some really cool stuff, especially with player movement. When so many other shooters are slowing down, Titanfall is prioritizing dynamic movement.

Plus the mechs and general aesthetic look fucking cool.

Actually I mean from the fans who have played it....Imagine that...

Example 1:

I kinda agree here. I do feel its a little overhyped and I don't believe its going to be the next biggest thing. But I think I will enjoy it nonetheless.

I agree. It looks like just another shooter to me but with freerunning elements that's going to make people even more annoying to try and hit. As it is in every shooter they already try to crouch/prone or jump around in circles like clowns when they're getting shot at, this is just going to make it a million times worse.

People hyping it up to be the most amazing thing ever because the 2 largest marketing forces in the industry are behind it aren't helping the game's case.
