Titanfall is nothing to be excited about

I think part of the hype comes from it being from the makers of Modern Warfare. Kind of like how people get hyped when a director makes a new movie.

I'm sure the game plays great for those that enjoy the genre. Lots of people are clearly expecting great things from it.

I don't think it's going to reinvent the first person shooter or anything though. Which I feel is what people are over hyping it to do.

So ever since it's reveals I am still not sure what is everyone's obsession with this game. Why is this even so hyped? I've seen people in threads bash COD and then go on to praise Titanfall like its gonna do something new with the genre.

But from everything i've read and seen for this game, it's basically the multiplayer for COD but more Future warfare (Robots) and some jumping around from Brink. The gameplay looks pretty much EXACTLY like COD, down to the points and a thousand banners popping on the screen after a kill. Yeah they got double jump now and some running, mechs seem cool but all of this has been done many times in FPS before and probably better. Mechs pretty much look like the same gameplay but at a slower pace.

Maybe I'm jaded but I expect more of the same COD experience with a few new twists. Like every other COD clone out there.

pretty much sums how i feel. this is the first entry of the new IP. nomatter how much a couple of people say its the greatest game ever the result only shows when it is in the hands of gamers and the actual game is played. THEN I will believe its a great game. I can't believe someone can call it a great game before release until the final product is out in the hands of gamers. previews don't mean shit.

I'm not sure why a game has to do completely new things to get praise. If a past game did something good it's not good or worthy of praise for a new game to do it? Seems to me like unwarranted dismissal and bullet point wars that ignore reality. If you're not going to get a game you don't need to convince yourself it's unworthy. Saying it's overhyped ignores that just about everything is and is often a strawman type argument simply based on perception often affected by preconceived notions. There's nothing wrong with people being excited for a game you're not, they're not doing anything wrong in getting hyped for something many of which will put a lot of time into.

I think it looks pretty fun, but certainly not spectacular looking. I'm actually surprised the same people who shat on COD's visuals and tech don't shit on TitanFall's. Honestly, they saved it for the last big exclusive, but when it came on it looked borderline last gen. If it was on a new engine with next gen lighting, textures, shadows etc, maybe it would be more impressive.

This.

The only game (strangely enough) that has serious traction around several different groups of my casual friends is The Division. I don't understand that hype either, outside of being a graphical showpiece, but at least I know several very casual players, who know about the game's existence.

Nielsen did a survey on purchase intent, Titanfall isn't in the top 10

The only thing I might agree on with the thread starter is that the press is overselling the hell out of this game, but this should only be a mild annoyance unless your happiness depends on how the enthusiast press perceives PR campaigns.

Not a fan of CoD or Battlefield and that crap, and I didn't understand the hype until I saw it in action. If they have dedicated servers, it will be huge. It does look pretty damn good, even it it will most likely be a casual CoD game. If they nail down the gameplay, and from what I have seen of it they have, then this game will be very, very good.

CoD is boring because it is the same old shit. This has much more vertically and more gameplay options. Oh, and mechs never hurt. I wob't be getting the game, but I can see why it is awesome in people's eyes.

What exactly is the argument it's not a good game?

I'm not saying it won't be a good game. I'm sure it will be a good game. But everyone acts like its one new innovation but to me it just seems like more COD.

You havent even played it, how do you know it would play like cod?

Well its made by the people who made COD and all the trailers it looks pretty much like COD with mechs.

I'm not saying its gonna be a shit game or whatever. I'm just tired of this COD type gameplay and this game seems more of the same.

This.

Would have really made a bad decision.

I'll listen to what people who haven't played a game that looks interesting to me say and ignore people who actually played it next time.

Agree. OP doesn't know what he's talking about. He's trying to masquerade his own subjective opinion as an objective observation and nobody is falling for it.

I agree, I'm not that interested and think Destiny, the Witcher 3, Infamous SS and Halo 5 are all more suited to me but its a game tailormade for the largest demographic out there who are rightly hyped about it.

was looking forward to it after the last reveal (was it gamescom?), but after VGX my hype deflated somewhat. Just didn't look as good in animation or graphics. Could be something to do with vgx footage using 3rd person camera half the time.

I don't think anyone's problem with the Call of Duty franchise is the gameplay. It's more about lack of innovation and that disparate feature set that keeps changing between release years/studios. If the gameplay of COD that so many people come back to year after year can be dropped into a package with a fresh presentation and new layer of mechanics. I'll take two.

That's exactly what Titanfall looks like to me.

Nice try at trying to tell me what I should and should not be excited about.

I'm cautiously optimistic about Titanfall, but I'll wait for other people's impressions once the game is out.

Someone find out what the OPs favorite game is so we can make a thread telling everyone it's nothing to be excited about.

Titanfall is going to be great, and I'm going to enjoy the shit out if it on my PC.

I think so too. But it definitely feels like a manufactured effort by the industry and the media to hype this thing to insane levels. Which is fine. That's what they are supposed to do. They are trying to sell a large audience on the next big series.

No doubt hard core will dig it. The real question is how much room for casuals.

People can take so many 2-20 matches before quitting. Letting ok players have fun is the key to success. Those guys pulled it last time so the hope exists.

You know how many flubs there have been where games "looked amazing and deserve hype"? I can think of some (Brink, Crackdown series, Alan Wake, Forza)

I'm down for anything that can become the next big multiplayer fps that isn't a modern military setting and if we can get rid of standard TDM as the most popular mode then I'm all for that too(even though it is my most played game mode in COD).

So Microsoft games?

On topic though, it's a new take on the very popular competitive FPS from the people that defined the genre last generation.

I'm 100% with the OP. It looks like a slightly less terrible CoD with some extra gimmicks thrown in. I'm certain that the movement mechanics will not be challenging at all, think Crysis 3 like automation.

There is so much that could be done in the FPS genre. For one getting rid of aim down sights in every game, getting rid of sprint and actually adding some pace to games. Now that would be FUN, instead of this pseudo realistic dumbed down BS that revolves around an endless stream of artificial rewards rather than good solid gameplay.

From the people I've spoken to who have played all of them said it was great fun. I do wish the visuals would get a polish, it's the most disappointing thing about it from the footage I've seen.

If it has good level design and has amazing balance than it will be good.

I don't know what the fuck you guys wan't but the big multiplayer games are the ones with the best mechanics. (almost all of the time)

I know mechanics don't appeal to most people on here though. If it doesn't have an emotional story that makes you reconsider your life than I guess it's worthless.

If you choose to ignore everyone that played it saying it plays nothing at all like CoD, then sure, it's CoD with Mechs.

it's time for mobility and the illusive third axis to make a return to big budget FPS for the first time in a decade.

it still leans a little too hard on the more neutered CoDisms like easy-peasy regen and grandma proof weapon handling for me too scream its name out in the streets, but reading shit like this:

It looks like just another shooter to me but with freerunning elements that's going to make people even more annoying to try and hit. As it is in every shooter they already try to crouch/prone or jump around in circles like clowns when they're getting shot at, this is just going to make it a million times worse.

makes it clear how desperately in need the mainstream gaming populace is for a shooter which actually makes mechanical demands of them.

Is this an intentionally bad post? Alan Wake, the Forza series and the first Crackdown were all good if not great games. I haven't played Brink so I have no idea about that.

Titanfall looks entertaining, but its way overhyped. People are acting like it will be some kind of revolution in the fps genre.

I see what your saying but just watching the trailers doesn't scream COD to me. I'm not a huge COD fan I play them every couple years for a month then put it down. I think this adds some different concepts that COD doesn't. The Titans, the jump packs the multi level designs and depending on how they implement the SP & MP together like they have been talking about. You certainly don't have to buy it if you don't like how it looks just don't discount it 4 months before launch.

Haha, you haven't even begun to see the huge hype machine that Titanfall is gonna have. MS paid tons of cash to EA to keep this off Playstation platforms. They have no other "exclusives" in the same window. They're gonna market the HELL out of this game.

& I'm not looking forward to more social marketers dropping by. they wreck things.
