Titanfall is nothing to be excited about

I am getting it yes. But im trying to say "its definitely going to be the next big thing". I am just trying to repeat what respawn themselves have said which is the PC version of TF wont be as good as the XB1 version.
Eh, from what I've seen, Titanfall will still only use "the cloud" for dedicated servers. There is no big mystery about what it's doing, any half decent dedicated server can run AI on it, especially if there are only 12 players (sigh, really? Only 6v6?) Really, consoles have run AIs on them for years. A server can do it too with a much more powerful CPU.

Edit: 14 players? Alright.

http://www.respawn.com/news/lets-talk-about-the-xbox-live-cloud/

The cloud isn't different than dedicated servers. It's just Microsoft renting them to Respawn for a cheaper price and doing all of the maintenance for them. It isn't doing anything magical. No secret sauce here.

I never said there was a secret sauce. I never said there was something about microsofts cloud servers. I am saying that Respawn themselves said the PC version wont be as good as the XB1 version. I wish I could pull where it was said. I am not sure if it was an interview or something they said on their own forums. Some things have changed since that deal. MS gives the cloud servers to any devs that are putting a game on xbox for free now as well as Unity and more.

Dont get me wrong I dont want any versions to be not as good as the other. I dont even care if PS fans get to play it as well. I want everyone to enjoy it. All this is based on is that Respawn themselves said the PC version will be lacking things compared to the xb1 version. There is no way they are gimping the PC version. Its just that the cloud is much more integrated in terms of computation and many other things, not just the dedicated server aspect of it. The pc and 360 version will have dedi's im sure, but there are other things the cloud does besides simply hosting the matches on the server and thats what the XB1 version will have over the PC version.

Titanfall's Multiplayer has been confirmed with new gameplay footage at Microsoft's E3 press conference. It will support 64 players on Xbox One and PC. No details have been announced for the Xbox 360 version, but it most likely will not support 64 players.
http://www.ign.com/wikis/titanfall/Multiplayer

At maximum, it will be 10v10 human players and then 44 NPC 'players.'

Becareful with the marketing here, they've said 7v7 in the past but they are looking to increase that number slightly.

It looks like a fun a game, I'll definitely give it a try on PC but as others have said, if I didn't have a PC there's no way I'd buy an X1 for it.
Same. Xbone has so many cons for me, that even Titanfall couldn't sell me a system.
The game does look like a lot of fun though and I look forward to the PC version.

An opinion is saying I'm not too excited about Titanfall. Telling people there is nothing to be excited about isn't really an opinion but trying to come across as fact or worse yet, deciding for us.

Where did you get this superior idea? Its his opinion and its just as warranted as every single PS4 thread complaining about every tiny detail. "Oh the controller sticks are not that amazing because they are already falling off for me." "Knack is a shity game" "Killzone is horrible" "Why sony did show anything at the VGA's" etc etc etc... Stop with the BS.

It looks like CoD with mechs and traversal to me. So yeah, nothing special. But I'm also a big fan of CoD, so I guess it works out.

I think its overhyped too. But probably because of who is making it. But I have played console shooters, and I have played both Planetsides, so nothing about it looks fresh or 'amazing' to me at all. I fully expect it to be huge with the COD crowd though. It will probably do juuuuuuuuust enough to get them interested.

Why do people keep saying 6v6 then in this thread? If it can at least get to 8v8 or even 10v10 that would be better than 6v6.

1. Respawn never said the XB1 version will be better than the PC version. Full stop.
Before you even try to debate me on this point, I suggest you think about this from a common sense perspective. What PR department would ever approve that for release? It would not happen.

2. The XB1 and PC versions are both using the same dedicated servers in the form of Microsoft Azure. This is what you refer to as the cloud. Check Respawns own website for source, they did an extensive writeup.
Before you try to debate me on this point, go read what dedicated servers actually are and how they keep clients in sync. Your 'computational power of the cloud' is just dedicated servers handling the loud in order to keep all clients on the same page.

Why do people keep saying 6v6 then in this thread? If it can at least get to 8v8 or even 10v10 that would be better than 6v6.

They have said a couple different numbers and they are currently playing with the balance of the maps. Haven't set on an exact number yet.

I just watched that Stryder trailer and had to turn it off before I fell asleep. Fuck that game looks mindnumbingly inane.

It is a topic that's inevitably going to invite some abrasive conversation. But it reflects an increasingly common sentiment. I keep seeing posters implying that this is the return of arena shooters, hardcore 90's PC shooters, etc., when what we've seen is yet more CoD-style ADS gameplay. It's like the hype is going beyond what the game actually is.

So to counter the hype it makes perfect sense to you to create a topic telling everyone there's nothing to get excited about? If the newest Transformers movie does 500 million dollars in sales yes of course you'll get those telling us it's not that good. I just don't understand this preemptive attempt to downplay a game that's not even out yet just because it's getting so much attention.

What's been said time and again is this game is a blast to play. Of course it won't be for everyone, no game is. I don't have a problem with anyone saying what they see doesn't interest them, instead it is the context of telling me to not get excited. Big difference.

IF TF2 has a supreme story to tell I could be interested in it. I have very little interest in paying $60 for a MP only game. Has nothing to do with the game not being on the PS4.

I hear you, I'm just saying if the game was also announced on the platform there would be much more hype than there is now because a larger group of people would get to play along with current gen, X1 and PC.

“We won’t get all the nice-ities on PCs that you get on Xbox One. There will be some re-engineering things.” - Repawn

Microsoft is offering Dedicated Servers to Respawn (and everyone) free of chrage, not just "cheaper price", and doing all the maintenance for them is a HUGE thing. Also, as far as I was aware, the Cloud is also helping with the NPC AI's running during a Multiplayer Game. Kind of like Drivatar in Forza 5 (which are awesome).

I'll more excited if its not FPS game.

Double-jump, hovering, mech?

LOL I can't see anything captain, just landscape.

That's a really old article. I'm really not sure what they're going to be able to pull off in the next few months on Azure that is going to be so undoable on the PC side.

Here Zampella says they all 3 use Azure as the backend in October which supersedes that old June article.

http://www.raygun21.com/2013/10/31/titanfall-wil-use-shared-cloud-xbox-one-xbox-360-pc/

So if the PC version uses Azure as the same backend as the XBO, what exactly could they do special on the XBO side that the PC side won't get?

What the hell does all of those examples on the PS4 have to do with anything? Are you really turning this thread into a console war? If there's a problem with a controller and someone doesn't like it after playing with it then they don't like it. That's not the same as telling everyone to not get excited .

I wont keep pushing this as I dont have a source, however I have absolutely no reason to lie to you or anyone about this. I wouldnt waste my time spreading false things. Someone from respawn did in fact say "the pc version wont have something like the xbox one version has it". I can only remember it loosely as being phrased that way however I do not remember the exact wording. However I know for sure this was said.

As I said In some of my first posts this will most likely be talked about later. And if it all turns out to have been fixed / false then I will hand out presents =)

I want nothing more than everyone to have fun and enjoy the same game. I hope I am wrong and that what I heard / saw was only in a dream.

Not sure why it's so hyped already when we don't know what Respawn is capable of yet.

We kind of do, though. It's most of the people that had enough self respect to leave Infinity Ward. The Infinity Ward CoD games were easily the best. Ghosts multiplayer is pretty meh because most of the talent left and went to Respawn.

There is more noise from people shouting from the rooftops that Tianfall is nothing special than the game's hype. Never have I seen so many people try to discredit a game so aggressively.

Corporate manufactured pseudo-hype is annoying to many, myself included. It's the video game equivalent of Astroturfing. It's unethical, misleading, in many cases illegal (though not typically in the wild wild west of video game marketing) and an activity Microsoft has an established past of engaging in. Fortunately the internet is not always so stupid. Shove enough manufactured crap down everybody's throat and expect eventually for people to start puking it back out in a way that's not going to look quite so pretty as it was going in.

I've played it, it was great, it's the game I'm looking forward to the most for next year.

Pretty bored of all the negativity towards it I've seen on gaf through. Opinions and all that but I can't think of any other game where you can guarantee that any thread about it will have at least one person downplaying it or posting about 'manufactured hype'. I guess that's all you can do now port begging's not allowed. Honestly, if you don't like the game then stay out of its threads.

Edit
Lol, post above me going on about manufactured hype.

That was just referring to the ease of use behind Microsoft's Azure servers. They do not need to worry about spinning up different servers in different regions, Microsofts infrastructure handles that.

They explain all of this and more in an article on their website, since that particular, out of context, comment caused a huge uproar.

You literally just described what dedicated servers have been doing for years.

You think each individual client would calculate where and NPC is and where it is moving?

No. That is how you get clients out of sync, not to mention the ping induced from going both ways on a connection. The server calculates the position and motivations of AI, and broadcasts it to the clients.

frankly can anyone explain why titanfalll is better than tribes or q3? If your explanation is its amazingly fun to play. Thats great but thats not a next gen title its an awesome fun game!! and what we all want but it is in no way a next gen game. From what I have read its an AMAZING GAME ... but what is NEXT GEN about it aprart from xbone promoting it? what is the difference from what can be achieved on current hardware?

PS : a fun game is a fun game we can all appreciate it. But I feel like titanfall is the new mario galaxy an amazing game .... but mario galaxy didnt push technical boundaries ... thats what people get annoyed about ... its a fun game ... just not super progressive.

The topic is worded in kind of a salty way, I agree. But, like I said, I'm seeing the same videos as everybody else, and I've been through so many nutty hype cycles like this that result in games like Brink, or lesser disappointments like the total lack of warning that the Halo 2 campaign was kind of a stinker. Something about big budget shooters gets a certain kind of cycle of hype going between fans and games bloggers that can get out of hand and needs a check once in awhile.

I'm saying this as someone who is excited for this game, just a bit wary of what it might actually be on release.

That's fine and I tend to agree but yes it is very salty.

It ain't no Knack, that's for sure.

Titanfall just looks like a very fun game and everyone who's played it seems to love it.

Also most other next-gen games are very far off so it makes sense for this one to be getting more hype.

I'm just pointing out that this isn't something that hasn't been done before. Look at DoTA, LoL, Monday Night Combat and such. AI isn't that demanding on a server and it can easily be done on other platforms. I agree with the Drivatar thing though, it makes the AI feel less robotic.

I think it looks fairly fun but I also think it's being shoved down our throats. It takes a special kind of arrogance to assume people will hype themselves up over a mech schematic poster and multiple mech trailers at VGX.

What do you consider "current hardware"? The PS360? A 2012 PC? What? Those systems just can't maintain the framerates with that level of graphics on the older systems. What it offers on XBO is simply a higher framerate over having it on 360. In this particular instance, what's "next gen" about it is the fact that graphically the 360 can barely do it. (Guarantee that it will have framerate struggles on the 360.)

Just like upgrading a PC to new hardware makes all your games look and play better, but it doesn't offer some magical "next gen" experience that you seem to be asking for in your post.

Why aren't the accusations of "no next gen gameplay" thrown at PC's when people upgrade hardware like it is when Sony and Microsoft decides to force you to upgrade your console hardware? Upgrade PC hardware and nobody bats an eye. Upgrade to a new console and you're asking "where's the Next Gen gameplay"?

Yeah fuck gameplay lets have loads of pretty graphics. Where's night trap 2 and sewer shark 2? This is just sad.

Well the biggest problem that I have is that it is MP only. Now, the issue with this that it is really hard for me to get hyped about a game that is MP only. This is something that I would have to play first hand to get any impression of. A game that has a SP element can get me hyped based on story, cinematic, character design, etc. This game doesn't have that; yes I know they are going to 'weave' in SP elements into the MP...right. It is one of the reasons why I really never get hyped about fighting games, Madden, etc. This is a game that desperately needs an early demo.

Pretty sure when Titanfall 2 gets announced for PS4 the hype levels will once again rise.

Until MS money hats the sequel and it will go back to being a cod ripoff with mechs again

Would not be surprised at all if they keep doing this like they did with Gears..its certainly a golden egg for them even before its released from a pr perspective.

i really wish we will one day get another Crimson Skies.....that game would be perfect for this generation

I still wish they had ditched forced ADS gameplay to allow us to shoot while running along building accurately, but the game still looks very compelling to me.

It just gives me that feeling where Respawn has laid out the tools to make every match will unique with literally thousands of possible outcomes.
I never really noticed it until I sat down and watched the recent gameplay today...why the hell does this game have ADS? You have all this mobility from the human side to the titans then you have ADS to slow it down? Seems pointless.

Its actually ironic to me since they obviously designed the Titans with different sensibilities.
They are meant to move around the map very quickly with insane, thruster-induced, boosts, so ADS gameplay would not work for them.

How does this logic not apply to the players?
