Titanfall is nothing to be excited about

This thread has been a great learning experience for me. For the first time I've learned of the evil that is "manufactured hype". Never again will I fall for this devilish trick by the games media.

Like the Mario 3D world is another game where you just jump.

Honestly it's sad seeing shit like this from a nintendo fan. The game just looks fun is that so hard to understand?

Umm? I currently have no intention to buy the Wii U!? And I actually think that 3D World does not really set the world on fire either. If there's one company playing it safe right now, it's Nintendo.

They made one COD after MW1. That game was MW2. The person I quoted said they made 2 COD games after MW1 that he hates. Keep thinking that I'm wrong though.

I was referring to MW2. What other 2 was there before that other than COD2? Specfically those made by Infinity Ward

Fixed.

What the hell is this then? He obviously means MW2.

My excitement has diminished.

I think it's more a case of me wanting to like it, to spite COD, but ... eh, I'm not particularly excited for it. I'm still not convinced it will still be cool past the first week. Ejecting from a Titan, or riding on one, is just going to become one of those things.

I said that most COD games after MW1 were not made by the guys that made MW1, you said they made 2 which you hate. I assumed you were referring to the quantity, following in the conversation I started since I was referring to quantity. They only made 1 COD after MW1.

I get where you're coming from. If there were 2 games I would have said, "They made 2 other games that I hate" and not just "They made 2 which I hate." I probably should have said MW2 but I didn't feel it was necessary.

What a bold statement.

Being on way more platforms, I would hope that Destiny sells more. It'd be a catastrophe if it didn't. MS has made it worth EA's while to limit Titanfall to Xbox consoles and PC so they'll be fine even with fewer sales. The objective of Titanfall is to be a selling point for the XBOne itself.

Destiny won't be on PC, it's a perfectly acceptable comparison.

Imo i can see why this game is hyped as such...from affar it look like this game got a good pedigree behind with some cool mecanics.
It has a solid chance of being a game that will start a new trend.

But the hype for titanfall is really too high ..i'm forcing myself to not be hyped because i don't want to be disapointed when i'll play it.

I'm not even sure that those cool features will be #gamechangers like everyone seem to think even if i welcome them in such a game.

I'd like to see some actual hate from people who've played the game, instead of this manufactured shade being thrown by people who want an Xbox "exclusive" to be mediocre.

The haters of this game are ridiculous. Not that you supposedly dislike the game but that you feel a need to let everybody know that they shouldn't like the game. I know why you take this attitude. You won't admit it though.

The game is fast paced gunplay where the soldiers have a damn parkour jet pack. They are fighting fast huge robots with ejector seats. All of the is fast paced multiplayer action. What the hell is not to like.

and all the hands on people who played it.

This is the most hilarious thing about these kind of threads. This game doesn't exist in some place where only Game journalists have played it and are hyping it up.

I said the same to someone else in the VGX thread that lots of us on Gaf have played Titanfall at trade shows.

It was pretty universally liked even by people who went in thinking it was all hype.
now if the game was sold on only hype and no hands on I would be suspicious but the game feels great to play.I can't wait to get back into it when I get my X1 next year

Sucks that the OP obviously can't get into that fun as it's just "CoD with Mechs" apparently.

I really like the traversal elements they're doing and the mech stuff is an interesting twist on the combat. To me it is one of the most exciting next gen games, it just looks fun to play. In fact it is the main reason I cancelled my ps4 order the week before launch, only next gen exclusive on the horizon that I really don't want to go without.

/thread

After this game gets 10/10s all around the board and becomes for Xbone what Halo was for OG Xbox and Gears for 360 the board will EXPLODE.

I will be playing it on my PC of course.

I'm a Nintendo critic at the moment, boycotting their newest console as it's absolutely unambitious, showing just the same games again and again.

Again, same names (and game descriptions), but different gameplay.

Mario 64 -> Sunshine -> Galaxy -> 3D World
"You just jump on things"

That's how insane the "CoD with mechs" comments sound.

I've played it and it was great. Reminded me of playing the Modern Warfare 1 beta for the first time. The exclusivity deal is affecting pre-release opinion of it. Which is a shame (both the opinion and the deal).

I know some guys who played Titanfall at the XONE event in London (pre-launch) and they said it was the best game they had ever played. These are hardened gamers, massive HALO and COD fans.

They won't stop talking about it.

I played it at Eurogamer Expo. I can't really "hate" on it, but I know when something isn't my thing, and when it is, and I really wasn't feeling Titanfall. Because of that, I find all the hype from the press and so on somewhat bewildering, but people will like what they like, I guess.

I'm sure its target audience will enjoy the shit out of it.

Played it down at Eurogamer Expo. Didn't go in expecting to enjoy and didn't get bought by hype but DAMN is it good.

Perfectly balanced between Pilots and Titans. Both play differently to be interesting and it has great pace. Not COD fast but not Battlefield conquest slow.

I'd really recommend it.

PS. I love Battlefield please don't mistake it being slow as an insult.

LOL its funny because soo many people clearly want to hate it and from videos. But the truth is that anyone who has laid their hands on it has generally said that it blew them away.

I fail to understand people who complain COD is the same every year, yet when a game adds frigging MECHS to the mix, yes, the ability to control Mechs, that's not enough?

What do you require from a shooter to be different? Elements from Cooking Mamma on top of Shiatsu massage with a happy ending?

It's the ultimate personification of playing things safe and creating a product that is guaranteed to sell based on what was popular last gen. I imagine the team leaders sitting in a room at the start of the project trying to grab some of that CoD money without making something that bears too much resemblance to CoD. "Hey, I know, let's make CoD, but with added jetpacks and mechs!"

...

*rest of team leaders in unison* "Yeah!! Great idea brah, let's dew it!!!"

It's just so safe and typical of what you expect from one of the big publishers these days that it almost makes me queasy. 100% emphasis on multiplayer to best ensure that copies don't get sold off to eBay/Amazon Marketplace, grimy/dank visuals, immense pandering to the dudebro market, Troy Baker... everything about it is typical. I'll never understand the hype around this game, but I guess something with first-person shooter fatigue wouldn't.

Basically everyone I know who had hands-on playtime with the game is raving about it.

And these are people I know personally and do not usually are not succumb to hype machines.

So there's a reason to be excited but I'd hold off any preorders at least until the beta.

I never owned a Xbox console in my life. But damn if this game isn't scaring PS4 owners shitless because of the quality, developer pedigree and hype behind this. You can smell their fear.

They are actively trying to stop people being interested in it even BEFORE THE FUCKING BETA, which will be first objective place to sample the true quality of the game.

Guys... drop it. You're making a huge doofuses out of yourself.

Taking in consideration that we almost know nothing about game (except, lol, it's from the infinity ward outcasts and it's mechs and shit) I think It's a little early to make such a bold statement.

From my playing it was quite bright with an ok palette if colours.

I went in with the same thoughts but it is very good.

the game whether some like it or not is synonymous with the xbox one so its obvious that some people want to downplay its importance. the fact is that every one I heard that has played it have only good things to say. its a true system seller.

Or it might just be that the people making the game, love to create and play a game like that.

Personally . I never thought this game was anything super ground breaking . I felt it was a game which combined cod and other modern console multiplayer fpses xp system with old school q3 and tribes movement . To me that's pretty cool sounding . And also most fps multiplayer games aren't amazing because they do something new but rather they get the "feel" right . I encourage people to read reviews of q3 when it came out . Everyone just went the death match just "feels" amazing .

Having said that . The hype is getting a bit out of hand . Call it an amazingly fun upcoming game ... But to classify it as the arrival of next gen is overboard . To me that's like saying maro galaxy when it came out was the arrival of next gen gaming . It was super fun and amazing and a great experience . Wasn't pushing boundaries to be called "next gen".

Also vgas didn't help with the 2 mech announcement but vgas sucked in general so I'm goin to ignore that whole thing .

Plus I've yet to see many sites acknowledge ya like old school fpses on so many levels . Say it's bringing back q3 movement with tribes jet packs and making them even more fun . Don't pretend they just invented all this . Even respawn themselves have said as much . They've said they're trying to bring back movement from that age of fpses . But gaming sites are touting these features as something super new ... It's almost as if they have never played those classics.

I think this game sounds and will be amazingly fun . But call the game the evolution and refreshing of great ideas it is . Not the super revolution it's made out to be . I think if the gaming press did that atleast half the critics of the hype would agree .

Let me guess... IGN? Can you link me to this? It sounds very stupid and well, game journalism-like. The game is borrowing heavily from Quake 3 and Tribes and hell - even devs acknowledged this.

Man I'm more excited that he didn't shoot down the idea of a beta. Especially if the game is already content locked, I could see a beta being announced soon. (fingers crossed)

I think that would prove that this game will be up there with the likes of how fun MW1 was.

it looks exactly like any modern day millitary shooter, just different skins and a jump ability ... and mechs which would replace tanks in bf4 (bf 2142) ... i think it's not going to be any different, it might become the next cod, i.e. very generic and repetitive ... i might change my mind if i get to play the beta or something first

People hyped the hell out of COD2, MW1 and MW2 despite them being more of the same too, so if they can do that why shouldn't Titanfall be the next big thing?

Game looks frantic and fun. Enough difference with the movement and mechs to distance it from COD.

It's definitely a day 1 purchase on PC for me. PvP FPS is my favourite genre, I haven't played one I love for years. Willing to give this one a shot.
