Titanfall is nothing to be excited about

Yep... I'm a fanboy, and apparently hate MS with a burning passion because I want to see a game fail. Let's ignore the fact that I own a goddamn Xbox One and not put into account that maybe it's not all that interesting since it's design and aesthetic is clearly inspired by Call of Duty.

Sometimes it's not hate for hatred's sake.

So ever since it's reveals I am still not sure what is everyone's obsession with this game. Why is this even so hyped? I've seen people in threads bash COD and then go on to praise Titanfall like its gonna do something new with the genre.

But from everything i've read and seen for this game, it's basically the multiplayer for COD but more Future warfare (Robots) and some jumping around from Brink. The gameplay looks pretty much EXACTLY like COD, down to the points and a thousand banners popping on the screen after a kill. Yeah they got double jump now and some running, mechs seem cool but all of this has been done many times in FPS before and probably better. Mechs pretty much look like the same gameplay but at a slower pace.

Maybe I'm jaded but I expect more of the same COD experience with a few new twists. Like every other COD clone out there.

What are you even talking about??

1) The shooting.. you actually feel every bullet when it hits. Shooting in COD always feels like shooting sandpaper or nailguns. It doesn't have the umpfhh behind it. That right there is massive.

2) The entire game is build around a vertical space. It's unfair to say it's just "jumping from Brink". the wall running was the only great thing about Brink(along with customization and art), so putting a concept (though expanded on with rocket boosters) and more skill needed instead of just holding a button. The levels in multiplayer are designed so that they can be traversed without even having to touch the ground.
This changes everything because they are putting the parkour with rocket boosters in a game that works. Game changer for me.

3) Mechs. They control, feel, and play completely different from anything else. COD itself is the anti-thesis of vehicular combat, and Mechs themselves are the highest morphing awesome vehicle thoughtout by man, next to the batmobile.

4) this entire game is build around multiplayer. even the story is told through multiplayer, which is a far cry from COD/battlefields 50/50 singleplayer-multiplayer focus compromise.

I dislike COD. This feels nothing like it. not the sounds, not when you shoot, not the look. Yes, it has a xp system, but so what? That's a great idea to progress and give a sense of progression for multiplayer shooters. It doesn't give me a COD vibe because games did it before COD4(unlockable weapons)

I never owned a Xbox console in my life. But damn if this game isn't scaring PS4 owners shitless because of the quality, developer pedigree and hype behind this. You can smell their fear.

They are actively trying to stop people being interested in it even BEFORE THE FUCKING BETA, which will be first objective place to sample the true quality of the game.

Guys... drop it. You're making a huge doofuses out of yourself.

Source?

Are you kidding me? L O fucking L..

I compared this basic opinionated thread to your basic "I-need-confirmation-on-my-console-purchase-to-make-mines-sound-better, I hate what everyone else likes, I'm going to make a big deal out of an issue that affects barely anyone/something I have no creative control over" type of threads and gave examples on those. I just used the PS4 threads as an example mostly because they are in full quantity as we speak.

Im not going to repeat my association with this game that I haven't already. But apparently to you and others, in order to not like the game, it has some correlation that it's not coming to the PS4 like I care. Please, get that amatuer bs outta here.

You must of got me confused with your crappy troll that is obviously oblivious to the fact that the game they like has at least one negative party that doesn't and since it's their opinion, it isn't a big deal as it is that way with everything. If you disagree then disagree but to go out of your way to make it seem like an opinion is some how an order or a fact because the wording didn't fit what you wanted to hear.

Dismissed..

]

You seem adamant that I care about the platforms this game is coming on, it is YOU who is constantly making the case with your endless banter about the PS4 being used as examples. Who the fuck cares if it happens there or the Wii U or any game platform. This all started with the OP being salty towards Titanfall and how we shouldn't be excited over it. Others also agree on the topic title being being worded salty. It not coming to the PS4 or Wii U is irrelevant to why I was questioning the OP. So if you have issues with Knack not getting its fair dues or how the DS4 controller is perfect and some being picky then take it there. Your analogies are off topic and your continuos need to counter with the PS4 shows how bad the console wars have gotten.

I need confirmation on the console I bought? Your a joke.

Terrible first post. I do expect more of these as the game is not going to be on some folks platform of choice. Bitterness does drive some posters.

I think there's a bit of backlash against TitanFall as a result of certain things that been said and reported about it. "Have you seen TitanFall?", all the wave of positive impressions from E3, the shitty exclusivity deal, the fact there's some obvious COD DNA in there (even if it does plenty to differentiate itself from COD)..

People who have played it seem to almost unanimously like it, though. And I include myself in that. I'm not a huge multiplayer shooter guy but I got one hell of a buzz from playing it. The speed and fluidity, the verticality, the power, brute force and various skills of the mechs.. it's got that really slick level of polish and really instantly gratifying feel to it.

I'm excited about it, if that's alright by you OP. Ideally I'll be playing on PC but I haven't ruled out picking up an Xbox One for it either depending on how many of my friends do the same thing.

Have you played Hawken? How did that catch on?

I really like Hawken and it's a shame it hasn't caught on. I find it a much more interesting, skillful and fun game than anything like CoD or BF and so on. If Titanfall ends up as good as that then I will be delighted.

it looks exactly like any modern day millitary shooter, just different skins and a jump ability ... and mechs which would replace tanks in bf4 (bf 2142) ... i think it's not going to be any different, it might become the next cod, i.e. very generic and repetitive ... i might change my mind if i get to play the beta or something first
The mechs actually seem to be much more mobile than those in BF 2142.
More like a huge exoskeleton than a walking Tank

EX.

FUCKING.

XACTLY.

This shooter set in the future with mechs, jet packs, non existant weapons and such looks EXACTLY like a modern day military shooter. Its so authentic I CANT EVEN.

I too am utterly sick and tired with all the robots and mechs on Call of Duty games.

All the jet packs, double jumps, parkour and extreme vertical game play in call of duty ghosts is just like it was in all the other call of duty games. That classic call of duty game play is so old already. I've doubled jumped and fired rockets while using jet packs so many god damn times in black ops 2, I've completely lost all recollection of ever doing it! Its THAT bad!

Kill guys, jump on roof of a building, jump on top of a much, blow up the driver, jump off, call your own much, blow up stuff.

Its the same shit in every ducking call of duty.

What the hell does titanfall actually bring to the table besides all these exact same things we've been doing in every call of duty game.

I'm with the OP. Ive spent 50 hours in ghosts having mech vs mech battles already.

This hype from the people who played are definitely on some kind of moneyhat wage. Its the only thing that can explain how people are so happy about titanfall literally having the EXACT SAME game play mechanics as another game with different mechanics.

It all makes sense now.

I'm glad I read this thread.

The game can still fail if:

- it is full of shitty IAP
- it has terrible maps
- it has too few maps
- it is unfun to play (doesn't seem to be according to the people that played it)
- runs like ass on consoles (shouldn't as it is old-ass Source engine)

Everything else (broken weapons, OP Titans etc.) can be patched afterwards.

If it didn't launch in March i might actually be excited for it, but March is Dark Souls II month.

Heh good point, it'll make waiting for feedback on how well it runs on PC in the meantime bareable, because fuck buying a game that requires the Internet on day one after the shambles of the past two years.

The idea is ambitious ... but if we want to compare Titanfall to COD - COD's online audience is primarily made up of NA guys who were drawn in by the Modern Warfare release... you know.. it was 2007 and the war on terror was still visible, and COD made an edition you could play in your living room.

Xbone is still a very NA centered system, and by the sounds of it MS locked this up so they could establish something like a COD... but I just don't see that same core audience having the same enthusiasm for Titanfall that they did for COD. I'm not calling COD realistic by any means, nor am I claiming that realism is its primary attraction - but you have to admit the initial drawing point for its eventual base of fans was the war on terror in your living room...

Much like Madden and other sports games, the bros wanted to replay stuff they were seeing on tv to an extent... Giant robots just might be too "out there." However, chances are I could be proven wrong.

The over-hype of the game makes me cringe, all this have-you-seen-titanfall.... Yes I have, and Mechs are cool, but its like a PS3/X360 game with higher resolution, maybe. Game mechanics might be fun and its definately a change of pace.

It seems like with no offense intended to those looking forward to it, but an over-elaborate attempt to grab the typical COD-Dude bros attention and wow them, if this game doesnt deliver, its gonna fall flat, hard. I cant imagine the pressure they must be feeling now.

Personally im not sure If I want this game to be successful, since the generic COD stuff just bores me, atleast battefield brings graphics/realism and gameplay and even then its not my favorate genre anymore, shooters used to be 1 of them but the over-saturation of them has left me wanting, this game and COD needs new engines, like 5 years ago. Hopefully titanfall isnt just another skin-graft but I think what im expecting in gaming nowadays. It is.

Agree it is kind of a gamble (COD is realistic "Afghan" warfare vs sci-fi warfare of Titanfall) but Halo achieved gigantic success. And Gears as well. Both games totally unrealistic.

I think they are smart in not trying to pursue COD like 99% of other devs are doing, but creating its own thing - sci-fi, mechs, vertical gameplay.

I dislike fps so i don't know if the game will be good, just looks like another one of many to me, but it is obvious where the excessive hype comes from, it is an exclusive for xbone, that's it.
Then the game can be great, ok , average or bad, like Cod, but that won't really matter.

Personally I doubt it will be a hit as cod, since it is on a single platform and comes too early to have a huge install base. Maybe the sequel if the game ends being as good as some claim.

The only person I have ever seen use 'have you seen titanfall' as a positive expressin was Major Nelson. After that it was appropriated as a meme to troll xbone threads and make witty driveby posts.

The game is on three platforms.

Of course the game is getting over-hyped by the press, IGN just put out a video with the entire staff talking about why they are excited for it, 4 months from the games release. Something that they never do for other anticipated games. That's not to say it doesn't look really fun, it's a shame I won't own it, I would by it if I had a One or 360.

Yup, cuz this board is just jam packed with Xbox fans, right?

You've not played it, have you.

Care to explain all the people that have actually played it praising it ? (Me included).

I may as well ctrl+v this comment since the ridiculous 'press only hype' argument gets trotted out so often.

It is going to be interesting to see how much the press can be used to whip up hype given the all the cynicism directed towards the press.

I agree. It's nice someone has finally shaken up the multiplayer choices -
I think that could be another thread entirely ... predictions for just how fragmented the next-gen multiplayer base will be...

A COD on the wane
Titanfall (Wants to take a part of the COD audience)
Halo 5
Destiny (What looks like an attempt at a Halo+Mass Effect+Warcraft audience)
The Division is even getting some buzz... it's not fps but it is a "modern" shooter that is online only
Battlefield! (When they sort things out)

As a PS4 owner...I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm not a COD player and this loss very similar. That said I'm going to give it a chance and look forward to playing it on my 360.

Beside slightly better graphics, any reason to drop $500 on the xbone for this?

And speaking of doofuses, the xbone defence force is strong on this one. Look in the mirror man, no one is insulting you sister's honor.

False. I hated part 1 but 2 is and will be the greatest COD MW of all time. Nothing comes close to it, not even BLOPS. I've moved away from COD after they left to BF but their talent is amazing nonetheless.

You hated COD4:MW but loved MW2?

Yeah, opinions and all, but opinions can be wrong. Yours is wrong.

My thoughts exactly.

The graphics looks crap, they are using the same COD Engine.

SInce E3 it has been shoved down our throats and everyone is praising it.

Personally I think we need to know more about Destiny.

it would be interesting to cross check how many of you "manufactured hype" "nothing to see here" guys are also ps4 gamers.

They've said it's on a modified version of Source basically from the beginning. You have no idea what you're talking about.

If it ends up being good, il snag a cheap 360 and get it (or borrow my sisters). I wouldn't shell 500 $ clams for am xone though. Time will tell.

I find describing why you don't find a game exciting on very little game play clips and information very morally wrong.

People can have certain opinions to game genres, not liking FPS' in general or taking a dislike to racing games for example is reasonable.

Titanfall looks like the most refreshing FPS to come from the degraded genre since MW1.

but it is seen as an xbox exclusive, that is what matters in the end.

And how many are going to get it on the 360?

I find describing why you don't find a game exciting on very little game play clips and information very morally wrong.

Morally wr.. just stop. stop. Right now. Murder is morally wrong. Judging a video game isn't a moral question at all. It isn't and never will be.

Let me guess... IGN? Can you link me to this? It sounds very stupid and well, game journalism-like. The game is borrowing heavily from Quake 3 and Tribes and hell - even devs acknowledged this.
I mentioned that myself that respawn themselves hae acknowledged it. And my whole point is . Hype it like a super fun game that it seems to be . Not something super next gen ... Which it doesn't seem to be .thats all.

Well in terms of first person action, I'd suggest Mirrors Edge, the first and maybe last first person action game I ever liked. Even with its flaws.

Titanfall is one out of three games that I'm excited for, the other two being EQ Next and Star Citizen

Titanfall looks like the most fun experience in a while and most impressions confirm this. Most other titles that people are hyped about wasn't even playable for the press or public yet.

I still wish they had ditched forced ADS gameplay to allow us to shoot while running along building accurately, but the game still looks very compelling to me.

Lack of ADS is going to be very rare on any game designed for consoles, but I agree, it's nice when it's a choice to just lower your sensitivity, and not ruin regular accuracy; I believe Serious Sam 3 does it this way, both modes are equally viable. I'm not sure why more devs don't do it, then you'd have both console and pc players happy without needing to change the design across the platforms at all.
