Titanfall is nothing to be excited about

im in the camp who was hyped for it. still is (dont plan on buying xbox1 but def plan on tracking down a capable pc or friends xbone).

Do feel tho the pr for it is getting too much. Maybe a beta will help. Get word of mouth out instead of "but have you seen titanfall"

it's basically the multiplayer for COD but more Future warfare (Robots) and some jumping around from Brink.

This is refreshing, usually all I hear is "Titanfall is just COD with mechs". It's nice to see people acknowledging that it has jumping around as well.

I, for one, welcome more threads letting everyone know what they shouldn't be excited about. Independent thought is exhausting.

Yes, there more people who have played the game saying its mediocre then those saying they enjoyed it. Your attempts to dismiss all positive impressions of titanfall as paid/manufactured hype are a joke.

Dismiss all positive impressions? Nowhere have I done that or would I do that.

I expect plenty of people have and will really enjoy the game. I was even excited for it myself at one time. What I am dismissing as manufactured hype are the excessively hyperbolic rhetoric coming from gaming "media" who are desperately trying to portray the game as the second coming of whatever deity you may choose to believe in. Not only that but it's also, and appropriately I suppose, completely unprofessional.

how can you look at this and say 'nothing to be excited for'

this thread exists simply because the old CoD developers are behind it ~ auto hate mechanism activated
if it was Dice behind Titanfall, there would be 10 threads/day all saying it will be the best game known to man

its really that simple

That is a small factor, but I think the overwhelming reason some people want to downplay this game is because it's not on the PS4.

It looks fun enough. I'm personally more hyped for Destiny but between those two I hope the face of the shooter in the next few years is less boring than the crap we've gotten recently.

I'm not fussed about Titanfall either.

Absolutely hate COD and I'm not a fan of the jump around OMGWTF chaotic multiplayer games/modes out there. I like slower, more considered tactical play. Titanfall just isn't for me.

I think it looks great even though I have no plans for an XO. I like mechs tho. I'm a BF guy but I do love me a fast-paced shooter, too. I dont see the negativity towards it other than railing on "HAVE YOU SEEN OMG", in which case, blame the guy who said it. Game looks hella fun and a great change from the same old formula.

frankly can anyone explain why titanfalll is better than tribes or q3? If your explanation is its amazingly fun to play. Thats great but thats not a next gen title its an awesome fun game!! and what we all want but it is in no way a next gen game. From what I have read its an AMAZING GAME ... but what is NEXT GEN about it aprart from xbone promoting it? what is the difference from what can be achieved on current hardware?

yet still, it can be mentioned in the same breath as q3 and tribes. this is why a lot of people are looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

i just wish you could put counterstrike in there too.

destiny is interesting on a meta-scale, but the moment to moment mechanics i've seen look fairly pedestrian. the opposite of titanfall, really.

If you think like that, for every person downplaying it because it's not on PS4, surely there is another person overhyping it because it is on XBO.

To me it looks bland. A shooter but this time instead of support, sniper, heavy classes we have support, sniper, heavy mechs. Wonder what you need to do to call a mech (timer/killstreak/team limit). How does mech combat feel? Why would anyone be on foot?

I agree with the OP, I don't think it will be a bad game, just don't get why people are tossing each other off with glee like its the greatest thing since sliced bread when it isn't doing anything that remarkable.

Dodgy animation, annoying characters and a uninspired story wrapped in yet another FPS. I don't understand what there is to be excited for.

The people who want these kinds of games don't care about story and characters or "dodgy animation". They probably read books or watch movies for that, mediums dedicated to those things that do a better job with that stuff. There are things other than what you listed to get excited about. Not every game needs to be The Last of Us.

I massively don't get Titanfall.

I think a little while back I either kidded/justified to myself a game had to have some depth, meaning or innovation to be worth my time.

I don't really buy games for an addictive 30 second gameplay loop (that is artificially extended by an RPG-like system). Especially if there's no story. To paraphrase you guys saying: "The hype is justified because it's fun" - even some of the worst games the past generation have been superbly executed fun.

I'd like to think there's a little bit more to games than fun now. It's just hype.

Not actually agreeing or disagreeing with the op, but generally speaking, I don't think it's unreasonable to say "I think game X is overhyped."

For example, I think Duke Nukem Forever was overhyped.

Since the first time I saw it, it just looks like Call of Duty: Robots & Jetpacks.

Nothing new, nothing groundbreaking.

Pass.

Since it's 6v6 with bots I'm assuming it's only 1 mech per team at a time. Seems lame. If mech battles are so cool I'll play a full mech game.

Looks pretty good to me. I'll buy it when it is on discount since it doesn't have a singleplayer.

It's a shame too since the mechas ect kind of look like it could make a more interesting SP than your avarage COD campaing. Maybe with TF2.

Infamous for SP and TF for MP march goodness.

I was wondering the same thing. The mechs are awesome and seem well thought out, but the infantry combat and handling of weapons are the good ol' CoD 4 formula.

I don't hate titanfall for that just EA. If they want a new IP to catch on then they should have put it on every console under the sun. Especially if they want to "Take down Cod". Just seems foolish and short sighted.

However it might push me to build a PC so maybe I should thank EA.
Nope

"Overhyped" is fine. "Manufactured hype" is the phrase people have been using for this, and it implies this grand conspiracy to mislead the public.

None of my friends even mention titan fall and i don't hear a lot about it. I think ,overall, the media is the reason it seems overhyped.

Sure, and then we have all the people who have actually played the game at various events, and almost universally come away singing it's praises. You don't have a counter to that.

It comes out on PC bro.

Honestly it seems like the last AAA game focused on jumping and aerial combat since UT2k4. As someone that loved UT 2k4 what's not to get hyped about. As like UT2k4 it's focused on MP which is great.

Last sorta game would probably be Brink but whenever I saw footage of it, it looked mediocre..

Looks pretty boring. Typical modern shooter information spam on screen. Dated graphics engine that looks stale compared to most other games available now.

The mechs and parkour are super cool but the thing that disappoints me is that it looks like the same ol' tired CoD engine is running this game. Was hoping for a bit more next-gen "oomph" when watching the gameplay videos.

For all of those claiming the game looks like just another FPS, are you excited about Infamous, which looks like just another TPS?

Nothing AAA released these days is groundbreaking. Just a new theme, minor tweaks and variations on an existing foundation with prettier visuals.
