So TLOU remaster finally comes out tomorrow and I've convinced my girlfriend to watch my playthrough. We love watching movies together, and me having gone through the PS3 version many times I know she's gonna like the story.

The problem is she only speaks Spanish. So my question is, what's the best way to go about this? Subtitles might be alright for a 2 hour movie but this is a really long game.

Has anyone here played through the game with the Spanish(Latin American) voice over? I played the prologue and it wasn't bad, but my fear is the other characters later on (Ellie) might not be well represent by the Spanish version.

So, bilingual GAF, how does TLOU with Spanish(Latin American) voice overs fair against the original? Does it have the same impact? Should I completely skip it and go with subtitles?

I've never heard the Spanish ones but given how phenomenal the acting is in English I can't imagine the Spanish version compares.

Hmm I just watched a youtube clip. Seems pretty alright.

Maybe you could check out the Spanish version of the major parts and see if it holds up for you.

I've played in Spanish, but Spain version (dunno if exists Latin American dub) and the voicecast it's really good. ND always do it fantastic in Spanish (Uncharted too), perhaps the original it's better but it's OK. If you want to practise Spanish it's a good point to play TLoU in SP with EN subtles

I hate dubs.

But I saw a friend play through several places of the story and the overall quality of the dub is actually quite decent, as is the translation.

I'd still recommend playing with spanish subs... it's really not that hard to read subs

Definitely use subtitles.
I'm not saying the whole Spanish voice over is terrible but there are moments where it's simply cringe worthy.
The guy who does Joel's voice is great, I've heard him before in movies and he does a good job but Ellie sounds amateur most of the time.

On my Uncharted play throughs my second play through I've always played with the Spanish voice overs. The voice acting was good enough to catch my mothers attention and pay attention to the game. Sadly I haven't tried TLoU in Spanish since I haven't beaten the game yet. If it's like the Uncharted games they voice acting has a Spanish dialect or is spoken in European Spanish.

For a my third playthrough I played in spanish just to see how it is. I quickly changed it back to english since the characters didn't feel the same.

Play it subs. I would argue that that is the best way to experience any form of media of another language with some exceptions of course.

I think the language options depend on the region of your PS3, as I said I tried out the Latin American dubs but just the prologue. I heard the Spain dubs on youtube, but as you might know the way you guys speak Spanish and the we do is completely different.

For this level of voice acting, only english works. Anything else dilutes the experience.

It isn't bad by any means but if you want to connect with the characters a lot more I'd you have to play it in a English voice over.

EDIT: Fuck! I busted watched the dub. It's awful, I don't understand how people can like that subpar generic performance. It feels like a dub instead of actual acting.

Watching a subtitled movie and playing a subtitled game are two different things, the game will often distract you from reading the captions and you'll miss some dialogues, I've played the game in latin spanish and it's perfectly fine, just go for that.

SwedenGAF here. Have used subtitles my entire life. The game being subtitled have never caused me to miss anything in regards to dialog or captions. Those of you who play Japanese games with English subtitles know what I mean too. It doesn't matter that it's "really long". Source language or bust, dubs ruin everything. Also helps you learn and better yourself at the language that the game is in.
