Today I experienced voter intimidation Koreatown style.

In LA it is immediately counted, more or less. It's a scantron thats read and securely stored when you put it in the box. The box is then delivered to wherever it's supposed to go and the results are got, IIRC.

Also I think they are supposed to direct you to place the scantron in the box, not hand it to someone.
I've had it done both ways in past elections. Sometimes they point to the box. Sometimes they put it in the box for you.

So voter intimidation koreatown-style is some little old lady give you the stink eye? She shouldn't have looked at your ballot but fuck dude toughen up.

Polling volunteers exerting any sort of political pressure at all whatsoever is voter intimidation, yes. And it is illegal in any country with democratic polls. It's a very serious issue whether it is a stink eye or a verbal comment or any sort of insinuation. #NoMore12Goddesses

You dare mock the Old Asian Lady Stink Eye!?

I mean, it's not something to totally discount. But I think the much more dangerous tactic is the "I'm a little old lady. I don't know what's going on. Now stand aside as I do whatever the fuck I want." A grandma used this to cut me in line at starbucks this morning. Nothing I could do.

......What does this example have to do with voting or election laws? #NoMore12Goddesses

Well the subtext of that post, which I guess you missed, is that if that woman was truly on her old asian grandma game, she would have acted confused and thrown his ballot in the trashcan or something, rather than just yell at the man. And I think they should make a law against that. Multiple laws even.

I don't understand how you guys keep having issues with the whole voting process? We tick a box on a piece of paper, fold it in half so nobody can see it, and stick it in the ballot box.

Simple and foolproof.

Hasnt been called yet. Ahn (guessing this is the guy op is talking about) and Gomez are ahead right now.

In LA County you don't fold it, you put it in (usually on your own) flat. It's a scantron so in usual elections it just a bunch of random dots, but in this race, it would be kind of easy to tell someone didn't vote for your guy, especially if his dot was on one end of the list. The scantron is read right when you insert it and then stored securely in the ballot box.

Anything who thinks their process is foolproof hasn't had it tested by an American.

This will probably go a couple days, given the margins of the likely 2nd place finishers. (Ahn is pretty stagnant at that number, and K-town is a small portion of the whole district)

You see the ballot get scanned and stored securely in the ballot box when you vote.

I see ajumma hasn't lost her mojo.

Wait, ballot personnel can see your vote in the US? What the fuck?

I've had polling place volunteers stare at the selections on my ballot while I fed it into the machine. I always give them dirty looks when they do this. None of them has ever looked shamed.

And yes, I could tell that they weren't merely making sure the ballot fed into the machine properly. There's a difference between glancing at the edge of a ballot for a half second and hardcore staring at the gray dots.

Having lived and voted in multiple states, including CA, I have never been in a situation where a personnel member had any visible access to my chosen voting selection(before it gets officially counted from the ballot box).

There is never a situation where I have questioned where I drop the completed ballot form and in NO WAY has there ever been a case or justifiable reason where you hand the completed ballot to an individual under any circumstances(not to mention an envelope is also provided to hide my responses so glaring eyes are unable to see when leaving the booth).

Either this entire operation is shady, or the OP is kind of foolish for handing his visibly completed ballot to an individual(really? no envelope or slip?).

Bottom-line, be smart GAF.

Looking at ballots here is illegal for the polling staff. You get your paper, afterwards you fold it and put it in the bin yourself. They take it out after the voting is closed.

Having them look at your vote is just bizarre.
