Tom Cruise is amazing in Collateral

He is rarely not amazing.

Yeh, you would actually be better off finding roles he isnt amazing in.

The guy is a serious nutjob in his personal life with all the scientology stuff, but his presence onscreen is undeniable. He has a quality and intensity to his performances that's almost unrivalled.

Tom fucking killed it.

Such an amazing movie. I love telling friends who have not seen it to go watch it ASAP and they always come back to me saying how amazing it was.

I was surprised he wasn't nominated for an AA but Jamie Foxx was at the time. I thought he was at least as good as Denzel was in Training Day (and I loved that movie) as someone who was a sinister untrustworthy presence on screen.

It's a terrific film and he nails the role from start to finish. Last MM film I truly felt was great in every aspect. While they had their moments everything since then I've seen has been flawed to some degree or other.

Heat remains his high point but Collateral is a worthy companion piece, revisiting similar themes on a smaller scale.

And the night club shootout. Sublime stuff with Cruise coming across as unstoppable and unflappable no matter what the situation throws at him. And the sting and the conclusion of the sequence. A true WTF moment that catches you unawares.

Nothing stops this Cruise missile.

Now I need to watch this again for the 10th time, love this movie

Cruise is scary committed to everything he does.

It's great for movies...but it also means he'll never get out of Scientology.

This movie is definitely one of his highlights.

But how is Scientology anything more crazy or illogical than other religions? I dont understand why people condemn him for that to the extent that it affected his movie career.

I've come to realize that one of the constants in my life is how since I was a little kid, Tom Cruise has been in so many amazing and memorable movies. I'm 40 now. He may be a scientologist nut, but damn, the man rarely is in a bad film.

Look at this list, almost every movie and character he played is a classic:

My favorite Tom Cruise movies :

- Interview with the Vampire
- Collateral
- Minority Report
- Edge of Tomorrow

The significance of the final shots isn't that. As I recall it's because Foxx's character was using Cruise's original .45 ACP while Cruise used a stolen 9mm. The latter couldn't penetrate the door.

That's not what I got. It's true, that's where he messed up when he needed more ammo, but the shots he placed were tactical and showed he was unable to adapt to the situation he was in. The entire movie was about improvising, or playing jazz, and ultimately Vincent couldn't while Max could which is how we was able to overcome.

Really? We're going here?

There is no scientific basis for any of them.

GOAT movie star.

Does anyone have any idea what the whole coyote scene was supposed to mean?

While there's a lot of significance to that scene for sure, it's neat to point out that Mann didn't plan the shot. The coyotes just walked across the road, the film crew was able to shoot it, and they used the footage.

watched the other day as well, fucking loved it. one thing I don't get though: why is he not using a silencer? he's a fucking assassin.

Listen to the Mann commentary, guys. Not only does he explain the coyote scene (or at least what it means to him), but he dissects the ending. I've heard lots of complaints about how Foxx's character icing Cruise is a cop-out or unbelievable, but Mann explains perfectly what he was going for, which is the culmination of a running theme throughout the movie. On top of that, Mann is smart as fuck and gives some of the best commentary you'll find.

Collateral was a really good movie, and I agree, Tom Cruise was quite good in it. People seem to forget about it for some stupid reason, though.

I need to watch it again.

tom cruise's best performances in the 00s were vanilla sky, tropic thunder and collateral.

they're all unconventional stuff for him too. now he just plays the same guy in everything. it works but it never stands out tbh.

Actually, his best "performance" was in 2005, on Oprah.

Like like the cruise missile, and watched this a second time cause of the super hype it gets on GAF, but yeah, I thought it was pretty over rated.

Cool movie at best, nothing special.

Even the photography left a lot to be desired considering its a Mann movie.

I really like the idea of commentaries, but I can't see myself semi-watching a movie to listen to it. I love watching movies and I love listening to talk radio/ podcasts, but mixing the 2 is just odd to me. It's like, if I want to watch the movie, I just want to watch it and enjoy it. If I've recently watched a movie, I don't really want to watch it again right away, except this time with the commentary running.

I watched it for the first time a couple weeks ago, amazing film. His performance was fantastic.

Man I love Cruise's portfolio. I even like Knight and Day and such lol, the guy is just really enjoyable to watch. War of the Worlds was my shit too, I really liked that.

The ending of the film is perfect.

The third act of the film is a little tired and pales in comparison to the rest of the film—which is perfect. But it's still a great film, in all.

Awesome movie, awesome setting, awesome characters, basically awesome all around.

I can't believe that the same guy directed Blackhat aka Asshat.

Doesn't the jazz guy answer the question correctly?

he was trying to get his gun out, that's why his hand was stuck in his pants

It also happens in less than half a second. It's the kind of thing that only looks ridiculous when watching a looped, low quality gif.
