This is indescribably dumb.

You seem to have accidentally hit post before finishing. I fixed it for you bro.

Guys, Perez isn't some Third Way type, he's progressive with a rock-solid organizing record and fantastic relations with labor. He's about as close to ideal as you can get for a job like this. Just because he doesn't have the blessing of Saint Bernard doesn't make him a "neoliberal."

the worst possible choice for the position. well done you fucking broken, horrible party

one party is led by fascists and the other is completely unresponsive to the desires of voters it needs to attract
Can you explain how it's the worst possible choice?

DNC chair is such a background role. Nobody will care about this come next election, and if we do it'll be because the person in charge massively fucked up.
Wasnt a background role in the last election.

And a lot of bernie or bust people cared a great deal.

Do not forget how we lost the last election and how the dnc back then "screwed bernie".

Tom perez is fine though having being tagged "establishment" is a big no-no for the snowflakes who are blind of the bigger picture.

The time now is build confidence. And I dont think this was wise.

If the DNC was such a insignificant role why did Obama's camp had to push Perez to run? Conservatives gave a chance to their "purity tested" candidates and they won the whole government.

When will Dems dare to do the same?

Sure buddy, let's pretend his religion had nothing to do with his defeat. I lump Perez in with the rest of the establishment that conspired to rig the primary for Hillary, the leaked emails prove it.

You know...people use this phrase far too much now...but this is why Trump won

WHAT THE FUCK?

Seriously, for you people saying that Perez as some sort of anti-progressive needs to get the fuck out of here. He is as progressive in every meaning of the word. Period. You guys need to be called out.

Why are people in here treating the DNC chair like an emperor? Really? This defeats the Democratic Party? Okay.

People acting like this misinformed children will be the real reason democrats lose. The GOP may act the same, but at least they fall in line when it counts.

Pulled for Keith (not that he's that good), but whatevs. I put little to no stock in machine politics and liberalism in general. Between Dems parachuting this goon Perez in, retaining Schumer and Pelosi, carping about Russia nonfuckingstop instead of coalescing around a new vision and then begging Bernie to divert left criticism away from the party, there should be no illusion about necessity for outside organization to anyone left of Vox's flaccid centrism

What issues is Ellison substantially more liberal that Perez on?

Never has one sentence sabotaged the preceding one so quickly and thoroughly.

People and their purity tests

I don't think it's even purity tests just people who don't know his name so they assume he's not someone they would want. This is like the epitome of low information voting in people that think they are politically active lmao

I'm glad Perez and Ellison will be working together. Maybe this is for the best even though I wanted Keith. We'll have to wait and see the results.

Stop, people only cared about the chair because DWS was incompetent and allowed scandals to take place propelling her into the spotlight. Nobody would even remember she was the chair if the email scandal never happened. By election time no one will remember who the DNC chair is assuming they aren't incompetent like DWS.

Deputy Chair is a symbolic position. Stop acting like that means anything.

It's not even about Ellison vs. Perez. It's about the DNC learning absolutely nothing from the loss to Trump and the absolute evisceration of the party at every level nationally.

Basically, this is a vote for "more of the same" vs. "holy shit we are getting destroyed and we need to move in a different direction as a party."

This was a victory for the corporate Democrats who are beholden to their billionaire donors over the progressive wing who is trying to rebuild the party from the ashes. Nothing has been learned, losses will continue to mount.

Calling Perez "not a progressive" is ridiculous. This is how conservatives saw him when he was in the mix as a VP candidate: https://t.co/X6yVo1qir4

Because Sanders guy lost.

RECEIPTS.

How is Perez a corporate democrat.

great choice

I thought Ellison would be fine but bernie isn't a democrat, who cares who he wanted. It's like complaining that the rnc picked reince priebus over democratic objections

This is like the epitome of low information voting in people that think they are politically active lmao

it's close, but i think the epitome of that is people i know in ohio calling to vote rob portman out in 2018 and then being shocked to learn that, in fact, he isn't up for re-election until 2022 because they didn't fucking vote

Huzzah.

Remember kids, this isn't a policy position, this is an administrative function, and he is really qualified to do the actual day to day work of the job.

If you wanted Ellison because you liked his policies, that is the wrong way to hire a party chair.
so what was the point of the DNC chair debate?

Ridiculous.

Nah, dude he's establishment just like Wall Street Hillary. She STILL hasn't released the transcripts of her speeches. Fuck this, I'm voting Stein next election. I gotta vote my conscience.

: /

People are still having purity tests when we have Trump as president 😂😂😂. Unless Perez has secretly murdered someone I'm ok with this. All we need is someone who is competent enough to field strong challengers in all 50 states and eat away st GOP majorities. That and someone who can increase the Latino turnout rate to at least match the black turnout rate in elections.

So what has Perez claimed he will do to increase donations from rank and file Democrats?

Which factions in the Democratic party and in general which states will be the biggest recipients of these donations with Perez in charge?

Is this good or bad

Will people rage about their purity tests

Exciting times

Reading the twitter responses

It looks like Perez failed the purity test and people are already wanting to leave the democrats and...I dunno, be conservative now?

Democrats will rage because some didn't get their way.

It's not like Ellison was much better so ehh
A consumer's rights advocate should pull some weight against the trump administration at least?

I guess if you view things simplistically like Obama = Hillary, Obama pushed Perez, Perez = Hillary now.

But, it would be silly to view things that way.

McMullin is a conservative.

If you're so upset that one progressive lost to another progressive that you throw your hat behind a conservative who, thanks to the benefit of holding no political power whatsoever, can afford to be critical of the Republican administration, then you sound like a pretty poor progressive to me.

You're going to have to provide a reason for why you think Perez represents anything you just said.

Perez also immediately passed a motion to make Keith Deputy Chair, and they are both complimenting each other and calling for unity.

Yeah this is why I am happy with how it turned out. It might not be ideal, but I am convinced that Perez knows what needs to be done by looking at his first action.

I don't believe that everyone raging about this pick and purity test are actually liberals.

Social media espionage.
Its like all they care about is having a sense of moral superiority instead of wanting to actually help everyone in this country out.

Anybody who thinks this country has a super-leftist silent majority is living in a fantasy world just like Trump's cultists.

Could someone explain the actual differences between the two? I don't know much about either so I legitimately want to know, not taking part in the argument.
