Titanfall is the single reason I want to buy an Xbox One over the PS4 right now http://youtu.be/qzYDrzk1xs4

I agree with him on this point. It's one of the few reasons why I would get an Xbox One over a PS4 as well. But unfortunately for MS there are just so many other reasons why I would get a PS4 over an Xbox One.

I have no problems with his platform preference for Titanfall either. And this is coming from a person who does hook up his PC to the HDTV and play many games on it. I prefer playing PC shooters with my controller unless it is a competitive game. You're just not competitive against KB/M users. And of course you would like to go to where your friends are.

PC gaming dying comments are so 2006.

My friend is buying a computer for 2000$ this friday, he's also buying a PS4.

Reason why is because he wants to play games with story on his PS4, but only DayZ and BF4 on PC.

My reaction was "Are you daft?".

Some people don't like PC because of the price and that it might require more from you as a gamer to get the games working the way you want, but complaining about PC with an argument like "It's dying" or "Comfy-couch mode", is just stupid.

I'm so sick of this argument. Pc gaming on a tv in your living room is a hassle. You can't navigate windows with your controller, you can't play every game from Steam's Big Picture mode, and you can't install mods.
Then there's the legion of reasons why you want your pc on a desk (mainly for non gaming reasons; printing, scanning etc).
And then I haven't even started about how ugly a pc tower/case looks in your living room.
Feisty, are we?

PC gaming in the living room was never better and it's certainly easier now than was ever before.
There are great little kb+m combos (HTPC keyboards) that will allow you to navigate Windows and do anything you would normally do sitting on a desk.
Steam Big Picture mode works great and even though this is an Origin game, I see no reason why it wouldn't work flawlessly with a X360 controller and/or kb+m.

And regarding the ugliness of the cases, this just proves how ignorant you are.
Since 06-07 there has been a steady stream of great cases for the living room (HTPC and gaming specific). Browse around PC GAF thread a little to see it.

And drop the attitude.

Tom Warren is just The Verge's Microsoft insider. He even admitted that he wasn't a gamer himself. Indeed, PC gaming is far from dead but his comment remains subjective in my opinion. No hard feelings.

Well... it's not like it could really be worse than it was before...

I have my PC hooked up to my Plasma TV, but the experience is nowhere near as pleasant as a lot of PC gamers will try to convince people of.

Controller support is still not guaranteed (all three Mass Effect games don't support it naturally). Playing online is essentially pointless in many games, due to your competition all using kb+m. If your games are coming from more than one store (and they probably are) then maintaining and navigating your library isn't close to being as pleasant as on a console. If your machine is somewhat older, you get to spend the intro to a game performing a balancing act between graphics and performance (TDU2). I could list more...

There are plenty or reasons to love PC gaming, but it's not simply better in every way. I primarily use my consoles still even though my PC is hooked up to the same screen. If I could had to choose between the two, console gaming would win out without a second thought.

He said WHAT on Twitter?!

Dude's from the tech/gadget side of Vox. He probably doesn't know much about gaming. This is like getting the Rolling Stones dedicated rap music writer's opinion on Death Metal.

Tom Warren knows his mobile phones but I'm not really going to rush to him for his opinion on vidja games.

Interesting because Tom Warren ran WinRumors before joining The Verge and is their dedicated Microsoft Guy. The Verge/Microsoft

Having talked to him before for other stuff I like him and all, but I don't agree with his opinions on stuff generally. Should have seen his tweets during the PS4 reveal and some during E3, Sony could have cured the worlds ills and created the second coming of sliced bread and he wouldn't have been happy unless it turned into a MS product with Xbox slapped on the front.

I never said it's better in every way (as compared to consoles) but it's certainly better now than it was back in 04-06 period, wouldn't you agree?
PC will never be better in the living room in terms of pure ease of use and "hassle" factor.
Maybe Steambox...who knows.

People need to know what to expect with this. It's not going to be 1:1 console type of an experience but, again, with Steam BPM and other enhancements, PC gaming in the living is really good.

I feel like we're offtopic.

Ontopic: Tom Warren is still...well... eh.

I want it on console mostly because I'd rather play FPS games with a controller. Single player, that wouldn't be an issue on PC but multiplayer is a different story for obvious reasons.

Sigh, what a tool.

Ill never understand why anyone would prefer to play a game like this with 2 analogue sticks anyway.

because it's easy to do and a level playing field is great.

I'll play either, they're both good.

I'd definitely agree that it's better now, but it's still not a replacement for console gaming imo, which is the argument often put forward. You didn't say it was better in everyway, but you dismissed a bunch of valid reasons why consoles are preferable to many people... including some that do, in fact, play PC games from the couch.

Also I don't feel this is off-topic as wanting to play Titanfall (a pure multiplayer) game with a joypad essentially rules out the PC version. If it were coming to PS4 at the same time, then that version would provide the same (better?) experience as the X1. It isn't though and so it's a valid reason to want an X1 over a PS4 for this. Removing this point, means that the topic can only really be about "who the fuck is Tom Warren, and why should we care what he thinks?" lol.

Do people not know that you can use pretty much any controller with your PC and play on a TV? It's 2013, how is this not known.
This is the Verge. Hipsters don't know a lot of things. They're on the same level as polygon for news really.

Geez Gaf show some maturity, let the man have his say. Personally I think his reasons are completely legitimate. There's is just no way on earth a PC in this day and age can be more convenient than a console in the living room Period!!

I admit I prefer owning a X1 + Surface over all purpose HTPC.

but it's cheaper to get a PC.

now, if he doubts there is a large population of PC gamers for Titanfall.
that's debatable.

From the perspective of non PC gamer, it looks many people are having a hard time with their Steam backlogs, are playing MMO/MOBA games, or compulsively buy indie games.
which may lead to a rather samml number of FPS players if said players stick to COD/Battlefield.

Titanfall on X1 will be the reason to brag about your newly and costly purchase.
that's good enough reason for the bros.

He had his say, now we have ours.

That's how it works.

If you think Titanfall is a mere game, let me tell you, you haven't seen Titanfall.
I've seen it blow peoples minds, create memes, cure cancer, challenge the president, give drinking water to everyone and reduce poverty world wide.

Calm the crazy hype folks, it's a cool shooter and a spiritual successor to COD.

all of these gaming blogs are a joke when it comes to reporting on PC gaming given the lack of kickbacks they're used to, they aren't motivated without the swag bags

Why would you buy a $1000 PC and then play it with the console controller? Isn't it the same to get a console then for cheaper price?

And in games like these you really want to use mouse+kb on PC. How do you do that on a couch comfortably?

Some games suit a controller better.

How dare he choose an X1 version of Titanfall. Lets bash his choice and opinion of PC gaming (though he's uninformed about the PC gaming scene)

It's not as though PC gaming is thriving. It's not dying, but it's not going to surpass either console in multiplayer for a bit. One of my close friend got a laptop to game on, but everyone else I know has a console and is getting a next gen console. I certainly won't be getting any multiplayer games for PC for the very reason that I wouldn't be able to play with my friends.

Funny because for the verge Oculus Rift was Best in Show@CES 2013. A device for PC Gaming and now PC gaming is dying off according to the verge :P

Are you asking why anyone with a PC would use a controller with it? There are a fuckton of games that play better with a controller and benefit heavily from being run on a PC. Take for example Saints Row 4 most recently. I play that on my couch streaming from my PC with an xbox 360 controller.

Shooters are a different conversation in this regard, I'll always take KB+M over controllers for them but I do know people who play shooters on PC with a controller because that's what they're most comfortable with.

There are multiple PC-only multiplayer games that regularly do numbers larger than any console game.
