Tomb Raider multiplayer: 4:30 minutes video.

The only reason people think the animations look poor, is because it's exactly like Uncharted minus the AMAZING animations/rigging. So it stands out really badly... I hope people appreciate ND's mastery some more :P

And I don't usually like getting on the bandwagon of "shameless ripoff!" but this is pretty damn shameless... still looking forward to playing through the SP.
Nope, I think the animations look poor because they look...poor. Everything looks janky as hell, something you'd expect out of an indie MP only game but certainly not self-proclaimed AAA stuff. Has nothing to do with Uncharted since I didn't even play the multi part of it.

This is the first time I have ever cancelled a preorder of a game after watching videos of the multiplayer. Granted I wasn't going to play the mp anyway but I didn't think the SP looked all that great either. I just preordered cause it was 30 dollars at gmg. Oh well will get for cheap later on.

I still got Hitman: Absolution even though it deviated from the previous game, but I can't rock with this. Not only did CD strip away the essence of the series, they made a horrible game. It looks so baaaaaaadddd. I might cry. Hold me Cheesus

You could maybe do multiplayer in real Tomb Raider. It'd have to be something like a tomb full of treasure and the player that finds the most treasure wins. You have to platform, solve puzzles, set traps for other players. You can kill each other, but that wouldn't factor into win/loss other than setting back the killed player in the race. Or maybe there is only 1 treasure hidden in a random location in the tomb and the player that finds it wins.

this is quite an obvious idea. Randomize item locations and you're set. But nooooo, let's put some generic CTF shit there.

Quoting so I remember to deal with this tomorrow after breakfast

No fucking reason to have mulitplayer. Cluster fuck written all over this game. Had promise too.

The gameplay change of tomb raider legends was a great change and they should have stayed with that. This is nothing but an uncharted clone with scripted gameplay. Fucking disaster in every ounce of a bomb.

Tomb Raider multiplayer.. wow. A co-op adventure, or a tomb-raid with lots of people might have been interesting for the online component, but not really like this.

He mentioned that in order to get Lara Croft in the multiplayer, you'd have to be maximum level (level 60.), and would have to spend a lot of money to buy her.

Why? Why does it cost money? Is the multiplayer so deep that you can play to level 60, and still be interested? With only 5 maps?

Didn't they claim that this was an open world, or semi-open world game around the time they first mentioned it? Or did someone make that up?

An open world island with, perhaps, a single camp as a hub somewhere would have been interesting. You could go around and raid stuff, haul the loot back to the camp, and find something else to raid. In the style of Dark Souls.

They mentioned a hub based world.
Think Arkham Asylum or Zelda or Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver (1) or even Darksiders.
That's how i imagined it, anyway, but from the gameplay videos i can't understand how open it is.

The comparisons are getting old, but that's also how Uncharted works with its multiplayer unlocks. You have to reach a specific level and then pay a certain amount of money to unlock the skin. The big two Level 60 (yes, level 60 was also Uncharted 2's original level cap) unlocks in Uncharted are Donut Drake and Skelzor. Both cost 2m.

You know a Tomb Raider Multiplayer could work and it would be AWESOME!
Add a level Editor where everyone could create Tombs with traps, riddles, enemies, your own defined "achievements" and goals. Give them several Modes solo, co op (riddles that you can only solve with a partner :D), Speedrun solo, Speedrun against a other players or let the players themselves create Modes. After you beat a Tomb you can load it in your own editor and look how it was build (if the creator is OK with it), let people rate them, Comment on them and maybe even Record small videos (Reviews, Previews ...). I mean the possibility’s are endless! Its basically little big planet but for Tomb Raider it would be freaking awesome it really writes itself if you think about it for a minute. I really don’t get why they go the shooter road no one will even remember it after a couple of Months if they don’t provide anything special.

Looks fun. People complain its an Uncharted clone but UC is pretty fucking fun to me and I appreciate its production values. Its gunplay/gameplay is great. Its not like theres tons of quality UC-like games on the market. If this lives up to UC in any way, thats a very good thing.

Looks absolutely tacked on. Which it is so no surprises here.
These publishers trying to tick all the boxes don't realize that if things don't fit, they will bring the review scores down. Which might (not always) hurt sales more than promoting them.

This game is going to crash and burn. In fact, it seems like it already has. Still want to rent it for the single player just to see for myself, but the fact that they shoehorned in this lame multiplayer that will be dead within a month really turns me off.

Why do you keep doing this, devs? Look at the sea of dead games out there that have tacked-on multiplayer for padding. Should have used the resources to make a better game, but instead you just had to follow that trend that has lead to nowhere but failure for games like this. Newsflash, people are not going to stop playing Uncharted multiplayer for this rushed looking shit.
So you were going to rent this game anyway right? The single-player is still there so I don't really understand your woes.
Everyone in the Tomb Raider team, single player and multiplayer teams both need PR coaching because they don't know how to sell this game. Whatever comes out of their mouth is bullshit. This doesnt appear to be bad at all... mp could be better but whenever they start talking about it you hear so much shit it's so off putting. I've seen people sell god damn awful games with more success than these people.

They seem to have better modes yet they're showing two of the most generic ones? Why?!

Ugh... I'm still getting this game though. Will probably try out mp but christ... it better be more polished, those animations... NOPEEEEEEEE! Also why on earth do they think people want so much DLC? I want story dlc... I don't want weapon upgrade, climbing skills or multiplayer maps as DLC!

This is true for damn sure, but I think that PR woes could be framed to state the overall nature of AA or AAA pr, it is just terrible on almost all fronts. I think Activision does a great job with how they market a Call of Duty, less is more; they don't try to respond to everyone and address everything they have a goal and they present that goal in their marketing and PR and move on.
developer promotions are just shitty shortened informercials.

Wow.
Well this is an interview by VG247 so..... kinda?
Yeah, seriously. The reason why they don't make Story DLC is because that is much more expensive and harder to do, not because people crave new mp skins.
They can have an active player base that they could make money on, not a bad business model. Developers really need to expand how they handle post-release content, I tthink too much is then left for a sequel.
Of every deathmatch XP gaining multiplayer mode we 've seen over years? Creatively is bankrupted, that doesn't mean is not good or fun. But hey, we are talking about ripoffs here.

What is important is to deliver a competent product not an original one. The Uncharted series strenghts are its production values and aping the cinematic experience of a summer blockbuster movie. Not delivering groundbreacking not seen before gameplay.

That is kinda a strong phrase to throw out there. You breakdown what deathmatch is; it is a line in the sand with two or more team facing off with each other. I think there is room for development that space. I think what made Uncharted MP fun was the fact that the movements in the environment as well as the vertically of the maps added a real level of depth to the experience.

I don't know anyone here who was looking for groundbreaking experience out of Tomb Raider, let alone Uncharted 3 . After they released the initial trailer for tomb Raider I knew I want this game was. I don't really understand the reasons(and it is not you, just me browsing other forums) why there is hate(for no being something that it wasn't going to be) about the game now. Particularly because it has multi-player that is coming from a different studio.
That's the thing i lamment also, it looks so forced when we concider the seires has it's own distinct flavor.

But instead of being too much cynical i'll wait and see how the single player component of the game fairs. If the product ends up being subpar then it'll amount to double damage since they went all the way to even betray the franchise roots and forcefuly incorporated elements that do not fit the game. The development community is composed of very smart people, just don't get all the persistance to include head to head competitive modes into this adventure games.
The series has it's own distinct flavour, huh? Isn't the mantra of this release to distance the name/brand from the older games. Honestly this franchise has terrible roots. I think that this new release and the roots of this franchise don't connect with a broader audience anyway.
Note: spelling man.
Lol look at all the insecure ps3 fanboys. This looks way better and cleaner than uc3 and that was multiplayer footage. It looks fantastic! March 5th can't come soon enough!!
ahahahahahhahaha

I really don't know what to say.

lol... I thought I made some stupid statements sometimes.. but you.. lol .. I seem to remember you told us something about uncharted and PS3 fanboys before.. oh yeah now I remember..

Uncharted Waves said:
Look at the water in Halo 3! It's amazing! Realistic ripples! Objects float realistically. The water makes the uc3 water look like a joke. In many ways Halo 3 (2007) is technically and visually more impressive than uc3 (2011). This is the truth but many people especially ps3 fanboys are scared to admit it!

Because that's how Japan looks like. Duh.

Come on man......now you’re just grasping at straws. Just because the island is near the coast of Japan doesn’t mean it has to look like Japan. The island isn’t based off an actual island. I thought that was obvious when they showed it being dark and raining then have Lara go into a bunker and come out to daylight with snow. The island seems to have a weird supernatural thing going on. It looks to have quite a few varied environments, which is encouraging. It will be interesting to see what they come up with for the later parts of the game.

But they are supposedly aiming for realism with this game. How can they hope to convince me that the setting is somewhere in Japan (or even near Japan) when this map looks like somewhere in the Grand Canyon? Even the SP settings don't look like they are somewhere in east Asia.To me it looks like a place somewhere in America or Canada that happens to have a few Pagodas and some Buddha statues around.
(At least from the footage they have shown so far).

My photoshop skills are lacking, imagine instead of E3 there's a badass picture of you saving Lara in any given MP-mode.

Tomb Raider is not [supposed to be] a third person cover shooter. They radically shifted the gameplay in favor of combat so that they could create yet another shitty deathmatch multiplayer mode. Not only did they not create a unique multiplayer mode playing to the strengths of the franchise, they haven't even created a unique deathmatch.

The multiplayer is symptomatic of the combat and collectathon focus this game has taken. When the game was first shown, it had potential because very little was known. Now that we've seen hours of gameplay footage we know that it has almost nothing that made Tomb Raider what it was. People generally don't just buy games in a franchise because of the name, but because of stuff represented by that name. This game's name is meaningless.

Tomb Raider has very strong roots. The original games were extremely popular and cutting edge for their time. Nobody is asking for a new game with awful slow tank controls and tedious level design. The game should be an evolution of its roots; improve what came before it. This game appears to just throw everything Tomb Raider stood for away in favor of telling what so far looks to be an awful story and joining the ranks of the growing cinematic third person cover shooter fan club while the adventure platformer club shrinks to zero.

You do realize that the game is going to have supernatural enemies and probably get pretty weird towards the end. Personally I don't see the problem with having a mysterious island.
