I was hoping you'd take that assist to the hoop! Bonus points for a slims model that could easily pass for our beloved heroine.

The game looks 10 times weaker than a year old Uncharted.
Er oh... hive protection imminent.

Big fan of Legend and Anniversary. Only had a few minutes to play it, but here are my impressions.

1) Graphics are much improved. It's night and day difference between Anniversary (was a ported PS2 game anyway), and big jump in detail from Legend.

2) Animation is a lot better. It doesn't feel like a bunch of canned animations anymore.

3) The climb controls feel really good. I mean really, really good. I'm not sure what they did to them (maybe the animation helps), but it doesn't feel like I'm fighting them like I was before.

I've not been able to try the demo yet, but one of my biggest concerns with all of the footage I've seen is that the animation looks extremely floaty and weightless. Maybe I'll change my mind after playing the demo, but I thought that the keyframed animation of the previous games conveyed a more convincing sense of weight than the new mo-capped stuff in Underworld.

But if it was PS3 exclusive it'd be the best thing ever, right?

Not necessarily - being on par would be good enough. Even then, when You compare development time and team sizes, You acknowledge ND's superiority over CD offering.

From the demo video captures I've seen (Gamersyde streaming rocks, btw :D ), the game does look quite pretty. The comparisons to Uncharted seem unnecessary, though, seeing as Naughty Dog's game is a year old and this sports a different artistic direction.

All in all, looking good! (wish I had a 360 to try this out...thanks for nothing, Eidos!)

I spit soda on my keyboard laughing, now it's an awful mess. :lol

Reminds me of when my father talks about the Trifecta in football: sack, fumble, touchdown.

Good that we have that sorted then.
Sorry about the keyboard. ;)

Yup. Same with Bethesda, fuck them both.
Yeah, I was just reading about how Fallout 3 is way glitchier for PS3 and doesn't look as nice. Seriously, WTF is going on? This sort of s**t should be behind us already. This needs to stop...

Downloaded and finish the demo and here are my quick thoughts

- Looks great, the environments are very pretty. Better than Uncharted?, I don't know I don't care.
- Controls are pretty wonky like Legend and Anniversary, you will misjump many times
- Underwater swimming still sucks
- Plays like Legend & Anniversary with a few new tweaks
- Damn those tigers are hard but I enjoyed the challenge
- Voice acting is great, British accents FTW
- Camera sucks but at least you have full control of it

General feeling I got is that it's Legend/Anniversary with better graphics basically which is enough to make it a purchase for me. Prince of Persia will destroy this game when it comes to fluid platforming.

Except that one game is centered around platforming and puzzle-solving, while the other is Gears in the jungle.

This is why I have little patience for comparisons between the two. They don't exist in the same genre, only within the same environments. Of course, everyone already knows this, so I have to believe that any claims of one being superior than the other is nothing more than a shamelessly poor attempt at baiting.

Loved Legend, love Anniversary, day one purchase for me. Nice to see one of my favorite franchises having a renaissance. Haters begone.

It's at an angle :lol

I've got one hand on the controller and one trying to eat breakfast (and now both are typing thankyouverymuch) so I put the camera on my desk, but it was too close (so I couldn't quite get enough of the shot), so I put it on top of my calculator for a little extra height. But the calculator is rounded so you got this downward slope of a stretched image.

Damn critics! I just wanted everyone to see the water! :D

Nope, your aspect ratio is fucked up.

I have the same opinion. Though, I wish Uncharted 2 had more puzzles and platforming than shooting :)

Personally I hope Uncharted 2 has even more shooting, unless they overhaul their meh-PoP-ish platforming or the laughable "puzzles".

I'm surprised to hear people are having trouble with the tigers. I suck at videogames, which is part of the reason I like this series: combat is deemphasized. I just lock on and constantly jump away while firing. No issues.

Squishing the spiders is great. Graphics and sound are great. Can't wait to buy this.

lol. Is this the SDF talking point for today?

I find some sony fans obsession with Uncharted quite creepy almost hivemindish.
I've noticed the same contingent mentions LBP in threads were it has no relevance at all.:lol

And with that i'm off to play the demo again.:D

Really excited about this.

I'll have to try the 360 demo later. I've been uncertain on which platform to buy it for, however. Legends ran poorly on both 360 AND the PC (with "next gen" mode). The videos have suggested that Underworld will run much smoother overall, however, so I'm remaining hopeful as it's quite lovely. I'd prefer the PC version, but I have a feeling I won't be able to hold 60 fps (even with a GTX260) and, as such, will end up with an uneven experience. I'd rather play at a locked 30 fps (if the 360 can offer it).

The PS3 port will most likely suck, though.

Very fast and fluid demo, with really pretty visuals.

I can tell this is going to be way too frustrating for me, though. The environments are so detailed, I can't see where to go, and the number of times I fell into the water in that starting area is unbelievable. I'm not sure I can be doing with it... I'll rent it, but I fully anticipate the level of skill required to play this will be beyond me. Even with all the difficulty settings to easiest, I found this demo way beyond my normal difficulty zone :-p

It's really good, though.

What, are you kidding? Judging by the official forums, there are nearly as many women/soccer moms/college girls who play this franchise, and seem to manage their way through to the end.

Sack it up, big boy.

Yeah, this was a great demo. The game is instantly beautiful and just gets better and better.

One of the signature moments was when you get that perfect directed camera angle of the statue of Sheva and
subtly see two HUGE reptile creatures crawling on it
. Its very foreboding and creepy foreshadowing and subtle enough where it could be missed. Great moment.

Ignore them. But also ignore those who say this game looks better than Uncharted.

It looks about the same as Gears and Uncharted to me dude. Better I dunno, but for a 3rd party to give is a game that looks this good is what counts in the long run. Uncharted fans seen to just get all pissy when we speak too highly with enthusiasm of Tomb Raider. Uncharted is still more about gun fights with light platforming,Tomb Raider is the complete opposite. Both are good in the end,but there always seems to be a fight brewing in these Tomb Raider discussions.:lol

I managed Legend, gave up on Anniversary. I just don't enjoy the trial and error exploration. I like my games easy peasy. It's just me.

The camera needs a bit of work, but otherwise that game's looking good. Controls (and the camera) are a really off in small quarters though. She must've slammed into something 5 times in the few seconds I was running around inside the boat. :lol

Overall positives: Lara's animations and model are great. The environment's quite good looking as well. The platforming and level design are well done and show off the animations quite nicely. Will buy.

edit:
What sucks is that I can't kill the parrots. Minus 1 review point.

oh? I loved the platforming and puzzle solving in Uncharted and hated the gun fights. I cant finish the game because the game is all about gun fights and boating upstream near the end. Went from fun to chore.

Controls and camera need serious work, Lara also feels weightless and the animations aren't too good. I was secretly hyped a lot for this game but the demo is quite disappointing.

Quote-worthy, and cannot be said enough. Tomb Raider vs. Uncharted debates need to die.

Ho ho, the trolls sense danger. Their destroyer is coming. Gather round, trolls, for you are about to witness the coronation. The Queen has returned.

Beautiful game and great fun.

One annoying issue is just some of the game's visual direction doesn't really help out the player. There's one bit where you appear on a high rock, and it looks like you should move on forward, but there isn't anything there except a jump to your death.

Really, you're supposed to turn around and go up the wall. Whereas Prince of Persia is very free flowing and fluid, and as much as I've played your goal is always in front of you, Tomb Raider is a slower paced game making you take more delierate and considered moves.

I like both styles, but I do think the game could communicate its path a tad clearer in places.

The game looks and feels great. What game engine is this? They nailed it with Dead Space and now this. Everything feels so perfect. Bravo.

It's a proprietary engine called CDC that Crystal Dynamics developed. Eidos Montreal is also using the same engine for Deus Ex 3.
