Too much ice in your drink

I always ask for no ice in my drink whenever I go out to eat. Doesn't matter the place. The drink is always pretty cold already, I don't need half my cup being taken up by stupid ice.

It's a classic bartending tactic - less alcohol (money) goes in the drink because of the obscene amount of ice. And your customer has to come back and buy more.
Pretty much every place that serves drinks does it these days.

I hate it at US bars. I order a Rum and coke and the bartender completely fills the glass with ice, goes willy nilly with the rum, then taps the coke button for a nano second. It's barely enough to change the color of the drink.

I like the extra Rum because up here bars give you exactly one shot, but I don't understand skimping on the mix, it's the cheapest part of the drink. I'm still thirsty dammit.

Sonic is the worst at this.

Stole my exact thought. Sonic is terrible. They even have tiny crushed ice in order to occupy more volume of the cup. Whenever I ask for light on the ice, they drop a couple cubes, and most of it melts and it's not a very cold drink. Lame.

Last time I went to sonic I saw a little sticker on the soda machine that directs the employees to fill the cup nearly to the top with ice.

Worst thing is, their sweet tea is almost $2.

You get a few sips and then you're left with a cup full of crushed ice.

I love their cherry limeades, but if you're not careful, you'll get a cup of ice with an entire four sectioned lime rind in the bottom. But once you say light ice and no rinds(which they have buttons for) you suddenly have a massive drink that they probably consider to be 10 drinks worth. You feel like you robbed them(of course they'll still profit).

Are there too many more frustrating small things than this?

Leaving Coffee Bean, jump on the freeway and 3 sips in realize they filled it with 75% ice, and I'm probably half through my drink. Comes from lazy barista's throwing a bunch of ice in, fill it up with coffee for a second, and their job's done. I'm going to have to start saying "light ice" with everything.

Ice is cheap. I was encouraged to use a lot of it in drinks when I was working similar jobs. You simply just have to ask for less ice.. Or no ice. I have never been to a place that would neglect such a request.

Also the specific drink you described, and most teas, are made hot. And so without a ton of ice, the drink is melted before it even reaches the client. It takes a ton of ice to make your hot drink cold. Typically the biggest problem and complaint from consumers of said drinks, is where is the ice?
