You know, every time I see your avatar I'm reminded that I can't play Odin Sphere because my PS2 is broken.

honestly, the music in Mega Man 2 is not unlike a lot of the music you might hear in Japanese cartoons or other games during the 80s. The style just... changed.
I completely agree with this, I think it has to do with the influence of movie scores on games. While ambience is generally good for movies for the most part, it doesn't translate well to a lot of games.Krowley said:Everybody wants to do ambient unobtrusive music now. I would prefer music with strong recognizable melody's. The ambient stuff has it's place for certain segments of a game, but a good melodic theme is my preference for most parts of a game.

New Super Mario Brothers' music was very reminiscent of this style: simple, catchy beats that kept the game moving, yet everybody complained about the music for some reason. I guess people just want overdone orchestrated crap in every game nowadays.SonicMegaDrive said:Right, I understand. Just good, simple, clean melodies that drive you along with the gameplay, to get you in the mood to keep going forward.
This is something that Koji Kondo did when he composed game music.
Now, the focus is on ambience, to set the mood of the scene. More like a movie.

Ninja gaiden 1 - Act 1 - Stage 1
Ninja Gaiden 1 - Act 4 - stage 1
Ninja Gaiden 2 - Act 2 - Stage 1
Ninja gaiden 3 - Act 2 - stage 1
All the ninja gaiden games have sweet music and there are many more great tunes.. These are just a small sampling.

Totally agree with Trojan just generally having great music. It rarely seems to get any credit.surume said:trojan's main theme is up there.
