Top 20 Metacritic scores for DS

Not really.

Metacritic's score is an average of all the reviewer scores.

The Tomatometer simply tells you what percent of reviews are positive.

True but it also bypasses the some of the problems of every reviewer having different scales. Do they also include none scored based reviews?

Either way, I always check the imdb, metacritic and RT ratings for a movie I'm interested in but isnt must see or movie I might have overlooked. Having multiple, varied metrics helps a lot

Soemthing the games industry doesnt really have

Fixed. Anyway, I agree. Scores are lame.

No Japanese publishers even do. How many true entrys to big name franchises do you see on the DS by the Japanese? The only upcoming ones I see are Dragon Quest IX and Phantasy Star Online Zero. Everything else is either a spin-off, remake, or shoots for 50 - 150k in sales.

I love my handhelds as much as the next guy (possibly more - I have 4 DS' and 3 PSPs), but I have to agree with the reviewers. Handheld games clearly do not in general enjoy anywhere near the kind of budget and A-list dev teams that the premiere home system titles get. I wish it weren't true but it is.

edit: and that's ignoring the technical limitations.

Oh, i missed the last part of Jackson's post~

He mentioned that some scores from reputable sites didn't get factored in with Metacritic~

I have seen a few instances of that, so might it bring to question which sites does Metacritic see as reputable versus not? Are they including all of the mainstream and even not-so-mainstream review sites?

Just take every single review with a grain of salt, unless there is a consistent trend in scores across the board~

How is Ouendan 1 better than EBA? :|

after you've seen all the relatively simplistic gameplay on offer you're left with some sometimes quite horrible music to play, vs some weird j-pop. I think surreality wins.

that's not really how it works~

It only takes 1 or 2 low scores to cause a game to fall multiple percentile points. That might be what happened there.

And also, you'll notice that many reviewers judge a concept that has already been done before harsher.

Read some reviews of Ouendan, EBA, and Ouendan 2. Many are criticized for not doing much different, despite being just as fun. Doesn't mean either one is better than the other, necessarily ^_^

Except EBA has a better difficulty curve, the music works in the context of the game, and there's no difference between the caliber of music in either game as Ouendan's soundtrack is pretty much the Japanese equivalent of EBA's soundtrack, the only difference being that you can't understand it?

I think grandjedi got it right. :\

all that would matter more if it was a complex game, but it's not.

I think people generally prefer the first version they played, reviewers included.

don't forget that it had Julius Mode ^o^

I'm not sure what's so great about Julius mode. I guess it cuts out the fluff by giving you a small set of attacks, but the game still basically plays the same except for soul grinding...

Own 18 of the 20. Well, 17. Some fucking asshole stole Canvas Curse when I wasn't looking.
Probably my kid cousin, the fucker
. Only missing Jump! and AW: DS.

hmm.. something tells me you either didn't play the mode, or didn't complete the mode~
Anyways, it's a really good throwback to CVIII style of play.

If Julius Mode was the only mode to play in Sorrow, it would still be an excellent game, imo.

Good to see Ouendan in its rightful place. Beside that, this list garners only a huge 'wtf?'. The one that most riles me is seeing that Metroid Prime Hunters actually got on that list.

Because despite loving Ouendan and playing it for hours upon hours, I couldn't bring myself to play the songs in EBA more than once. If I were to pick up one of those games tomorrow it would still be Ouenan. With one or two exceptions, the music is just plain terrible.

But EBA's better than Ouendan 2, I'll give you that.

I haven't completed it, no. What's the secret payoff? Hearing Dance of Illusions? Seeing a crumbling castle?

haha~ I know what you're getting at. Just try completing it when u have the time, and I think you'll understand just how Sorrow upped the ante with extra mode play

MY CHEESY J-POP SONG IS BETTER THAN YOUR CHEESY WESTERN POP SONG

What is Jump Ultimate Stars?

Fighting Ă  la Super Smash Bros. with characters from Shonen Jump, like Goku, Luffy, Kenshin Himura and etcetera. It's the sequel to Jump Super Stars.

Astonishing how few 90%+ rated games there are on the system really.
Handheld games are commonly underrated, PSP only has 1 game above 90. I think there are a lot more great games on these handhelds than the few that are rated 90+.

Why this topic was made is what I'm more confused about.

Gamerankings' list for comparison.

chibi-robo: park patrol is one of, if not the best game on the ds. yet it's none of these lists. reviews suck. etc.

Phantom Hourglass has no business being anywhere near that high on the list.

What is GAF's opinion of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time?

I have thought about picking it up, didn't realize it was that highly rated.

Agreed. A completely joyless game. I had to quit after three hours from sheer boredom.

it's certainly in my five favorite ds games. fantastic, creative. . . as far as handheld adventure games go, it's tops. something as simple as being able to pull down the map and add notes added a lot to zelda.

No Ace Attorney is ridiculous but seeing TWEWY up there makes me smile.

i've heard people raving about this game, but after twenty minutes i was just confused by the battle system, put off by the aesthetic, and figured i didn't "get it." think i should give it another shot? i could use a great ds game. . .

Oh indeed good sir! The battle system takes awhile to get used to but its simple once you get the hang of it. I ran into many a random battles to understand, since then best DS RPG I've played. Heck it maybe for a long time

The battle system is not that difficult to comprehend. Instructions come with every button.

If the top screen throws you off, just ignore it and set it on auto. Personally controlling both screens isn't essential to gameplay at all.

new super mario brothers was way too simple for my tastes. but i've preferred 3d mario for years now, so i guess that shouldn't surprise me.

Okay, seriously why is Meteos on both those lists? It's a pretty average game at best.
Meteos was released during the first half of 2005 when there was a huuuuuge lack of quality games for the DS. While I think Meteos is a good game, I'm pretty sure that helped it to get more positive reviews than what it would get today.

18/20 on the metacritic list (missing jump whatever and planet puzzle league, 32/50 on the top 50, 54/100 on the top 100)
17/20 on the gamerankings list (missing planet puzzle league and 2x nintendogs, 35/50 on the top 50, 63/100 on the top 100)

of course i'm not buying any ds sports games or any of the 2984773897 versions of nintendogs so i've basically got 99% of both lists.
