Top 5 Actors of all time

Seriously GAf, no love for Dustin Hoffman?

After him and De Niro, I was always a bit of a Martin Sheen fan too. In recent years I've also become a huge Di Caprio fan. I'm not sure if I'd say he's a great actor, but I've always loved Bogart, but that's mainly due to Casablanca and the Maltese Falcon. Jimmy Stewart was in some great movies back in the day too, but again, I'm not sure if I'd say he was a great actor. Moving up the ages, Jack Nicholson has turned in some stellar performances in his lifetime and Gene Hackman used to be amazing, although I haven't seen him in anything I liked for a long time..

Christ, man. Go watch 'The Treasure of the Sierra Madre'.

If you didn't believe Bogart was a great actor before, that will seal the deal for you.

Its where the natives are surrounding him on the boat in Fitzcarraldo. I think his facial expressions are what make him so damn cool.

Eastwood, Oldman, Walken, Nicholson, Freeman

Christopher Lee

If this is one of your ever-so-witty posts I'm going to murder you in your sleep. Christopher Lee is one of my favourite actors.

not necessarily the best of all time but these are my faves, I'll watch almost any movie with them in it.

Al Pacino
Tom Hanks
Ed Norton
Tom Cruise
Leonardo DiCaprio

As if.

Mr Sender would unleash the drive bee before you'd even have a chance to get to me.

My last list is rushed, I'm not even sure if I could do a proper top 5. I could probably muster up a list of 10 in no particular :/ Couldn't leave the thread without mentioned Toshiro Mifune, dude has done a shitload of awesome films.

That's one of the most esoteric references I've ever seen. Bravo.

Brad Pitt
Tom Hanks (nevermind his oscar wins...Castaway is where its at)
Carry Grant
Robert Deniro
Christopher Walken

Btw OP should be banned for his list. I mean theres dumb and then theres that.
Your favorite 5 actors maybe, but all time? Come on. Walken falls into the former of course

Was a bit hesitant to make such a generic thread, but I'm genuinely curious about what these list's will look like.

In no particular order I would have to say

Bruce Willis
Brad Pitt
Samuel L Jackson
Jim Carrey
Edward Norton
Shia Lebeouf

Just so happens that my top 5 are still alive, and one of which might not be considered a great to most.

This has to be a joke post. :lol

I don't know, my problem isn't so much with Bogie but the era. Performances tended to be very exaggerated, still drawing a lot from the stage. It's not really until the late sixties, early seventies where the more natural style of performance became more commonplace. I'm sure there are exceptions, heck there are performances I love from the forties. I've always loved Henry Fonda in "My Darling Clementine" for instance. It was probably unfair of me to pick on Bogart in particular, he just happens to be in two of my favourite films from the time, and I love him in both of them. But even if we set that argument aside, he's more of a star than an actor. You don't put Humphrey Bogart on screen to get Rick Blaine, you put him on there to get Humphrey Bogart. Of course that's just as true of todays movie stars today as it was then.

I did just think of another great actor, Tim Robbins. He's taken some questionable roles in his time but between Jacob's Ladder, the Shawshank Redemption and Mystic River he has given some excellent performances too.

1) DeNiro
2) Ed Norton
3) Denzel Washington
4) James Gandolfini (gotta have my dark horse)
5) Chow Yun Fat

1. Christian Bale
2. Heath Ledger
3. Aaron Eckhart
4. Michael Caine
5. Gary Oldman

That's a bullshit list. Everyone knows Gary Oldman played every part in The Dark Knight. He is #1.

Tony Leung Chiu-Wai should be on the list.
Hell yea. Watch his eyes in In the Mood for Love. Amazing.

This thread should be renamed "Top 5 English-speaking Actors of all time". Then, it should be renamed "Top 5 English-speaking Actors of all time in the last 10 years". And then, it should be renamed "Top 5 English-speaking Actors of all time in the last 10 years picked by morons".

Also, Brad Pitt? Really? REALLY?
Ok, Fight Club was good. But REALLY?

and I just interruped a ClubSandy lesbian threesome with Anetta Keys, Sandy and Amber Michaels for this. Bah.

thread's obviously got its fair share of shit selections, so I'm just gonna post this

Johnny Depp
Gene Hackman
Edward Norton
Dustin Hoffman
Tom Hanks

Honorable Mentions:
Jack Nicholson
Brad Pitt
De Niro
Sean Penn
Michael Caine
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Will Smith
DeCaprio
Pacino

Right now at the moment I can only think of...

Clint Eastwood
Liam Neeson
Jack Nicholson

I'd watch any of their movies if I hadn't seen most of them already.
As for female actors: Sigourney Weaver.

My 5 favorite actors who always play the same characters
1. Joe Shishido
2. Charles Bronson
3. Hugh Grant
4. Woody Allen
5. Clint Eastwood
.

The Stewart, Grant, Peck part of one of the lists posted is essential. I could leave Bogart and Brando, but the first three are astonishing.

I have just this morning been watching 'North by Northwest', and Grant's comic distress is pretty damned near unmatched.

:lol

Jesus, this thread...

To be somewhat precise I'm gonna narrow my thread down to english speaking male actors in "talkie" films:D

Jimbo Stewart
Bob DeNiro (I was always unconvinced until I saw him play a stupid kid in Mean Streets)
Danny D. Lewis
Eddie Norton (good early streak)
Ghandi (even if he has been in some miserable shit lately)

Honorable mention: G-Rod Oldmang (character actor)

Probably could do better if I thought harder

1. Robert DeNiro
2. Jack Nicholson
3. Daniel Day Lewis
4. Clint Eastwood
5. Russel Crowe

honorable mentions: Mel Gibson and Leo Dicaprio

How the fuck does anyone who has watched more than the last 4 years worth of movies would place Shia Labeouf on a top 5 actor list?
