Top 6 reasons why the PS3 WILL be backwards compatible with Logitech's DFP

Also , it's unlikely PS3 is gonna launch with a FF controller and foot pedals...

Think again Mr. kumaru :) Here are my 6 reasons why I feel the PS3 will launch with backward compatibility for the Driving Force Pro:

1)The wheel was introduced with the launch of the Gran Turismo franchise. Many people who bought GT4 also bought the DFP and will definitely buy GT5. Sony knows that it is important to bring those customers back, so they will allow us to use our DFP on all PS3 racing games.

2)Logitech's new version of the DFP designed specifically for the PS3 will no doubt need to look and feel better for the next generation of PS3 racing games so it is unlikely they will have it ready at launch. Developing a new FF wheel takes time. Therefore Sony will tell the devs of all PS3 racing games to make sure their games are compatible with the DFP so that we'll have at least one wheel to use for the time being.

3)The DFP is still somewhat of a new product that was released late into the PS2's cycle. Logitech and Sony know better than to cut off support for this wheel seeing as it still has good potential to continue to make them money.

4)PS3 has USB ports...makes physically modifying the cable end or contoller port completely unecessary and makes it only a software driver issue. It's all up to the devs to supply support.

5)PS3 is expected to be 100% backwards compatible with all PS2 games. That means GT4 can and will continue to be played by fans who are busy waiting until GT Vision comes out. Fans will definitely want to continue to use their DFPs with GT4 and Sony knows this. Therefore it behooves them to make the system read and recognize the DFP hardware. Fans are expecting this.

6)Last but not least, top CEOs and managers at both Sony and Logitech read the boards here at Gaming Age. They have been following my posts and have a fairly good grasp on my profile. They know....they KNOW that if the PS3 comes out with Ridge Racer 6 as a launch title and it doesn't work with the Driving Force Pro, Isamu will raise some serious hell at both of their headquaters! They know my lunacy knows no bounds *picks up one of his many molotov cocktails and tosses it onto the crate* :D :D :D :D :D :D

So there ya have it gentlemen. PS3 WILL WORK WITH THE DRIVING FORCE PRO! Sony is NOT Micro$oft(read stupid), and they know what time it is!

PS3+RR6+DFP = new definition of rapture :D :D :D :D

Based on history, I assume this will totally happen, and GT5 will not launch with a new wheel. Also, GT5 will support the DFP, and previous Logitech steering wheel peripherals.

There is no way that there'll be a wheel that launches with GT5, and is the only wheel that works properly with updates to the GT franchise. Historically, there is no way this could happen. Impossible.

Why not? It's not like GT5 is going to be a launch title. Both GT3 and GT4 have had wheels designed for it.

Not a chance. 1) There's no way that Logitech wouldn't want to milk another version of wheel. 2) Controller input and USB input are seperate things unless Sony wants to provide driver to map USB to controller emulation *and* Logitech wants to supply the driver for such mapping - too much work for a mere fanboy like you.

There will probably be another revision, but games will support older versions I suppose (for both DFP and DF).

I will buy another wheel (even at double price) if it has a complete gear box and a force feedback clutch and a reasonably close to real life brake.

Forget PS3, Logitech (or Bizarre) should make a driver for X360... that's just plain stupid that it wasn't there in the first place.

Has anyone here ever raced against isamu, in any game...ever? Be it online or off?

I'm baffled as to how someone can be so preoccupied w/ something they don't experience much.

I forgot the wheel does not go in the controller port at all, which was the reason for #2. Either way it depends on how much more work it is to support new+old wheels.

Sony knows that 99.9% of gamers don't base their console buying decisions at launch based on the availability of a force-feedback wheel.

Sony also knows that they'll sell out every system they produce for at least the first few months.

Therefore, there is absolutely zero reason for Sony to give a shit about having feedback wheel support at launch.

Except it is one more advantage they can claim over MS. Sony also makes money off of DFP sales. There's 2 reasons right there.

there's no reason why ps3 shouldn't support the df pro at launch. there's no reason why xbox 360 shouldn't support the df pro now for that matter...microsoft are just being stupid about peripherals. apparently they wouldn't let hori make their doa4 sticks wireless. wtf.

PS3 has, what.. six USB-ports? I'd bet my title on support for all the quite popular (here in Europe at least) PS2 USB-peripherals; ff wheel, singstar, eyetoy. Obviously the HD-Eyetoy will be pushed, and there will be further revisions of the wheel (clutch, proper stick etc), but I'm sure the old ones can be used for some stuff too. Especially the wheel, there is really no reason not to support it. I can't think of any cheaper selling point for racing game devs/publishers.

OK, since this thread is really about Isamu, and not his cockameney theories, I'm calling him out:

Isamu

- name the five most recent driving games you own.
- name the consoles you own
- name the racing peripherals you own
- list your gamertag so we can see how elite you are at them.

Isamu, this thread is not finished until you answer this man.

Ah a challenge :D

rFactor
Trackmania Sunrise
Richard Burns Rally
Gran Prix Legends
Rave Racer PCB
GT3
RRV/RR Type 4/Rage Racer/etc
Burnout 2(PS2)
RalliSport Challenge 2
MotoGP 2
NFS HS(PC)
NFS Porsche Unleashed
PGR2(until I took a sledgehammer to it)

Consoles:

Xbox 1
PS2
PC
Will be getting a GameCube soon

Used to own a Thrustmaster FF wheel for PS2/PC to play GT3 with it, sold it on ebay.
MadCatz MC2 racing wheel for Xbox but sold it due to crappy quality.

Gamertag = Isamuu

I have played BeOnEdge/WhippenSean/Indigo/Kodomo(aka MVS from the TNL forum) over XBL.

Cocoa is right. I do not own a Driving Force Pro. I have played with it a little at a buddy's house. It's not a bad wheel and I was going to buy one. But changed my mind due to the announcement of BRD's FF wheel which should be out in the near future.

Current USB libraries from Logitech support things pretty transparently you only have to do extra work for any specific features to new wheel revisions - it's basically a lot like using DirectX for PC.

If a wheel like this came out at $250, I think I would get it, provided the PS3 is cheaper by the time GT5 comes out.

At the bare minimum, an updated wheel needs a clutch pedal, even if it's not force feedback. Other than that, I love my Driving Force Pro, except that I had to buy another one because the gas pedal stopped working.

(Anyone interested in buying a wheel-only DFP on the cheap?)

I had lightning take out my pedals, good for nothing surge protector. If your brake is still working you may just have a problem with the pot on the gas pedal. Open the pedals up and make sure they are clean and not touching each other.

Mr. kumaru :lol

Isamu, this thread has changed my thinking, so much so I'll make the following deal with you.

If:
1. A hot racing game is announced for PS3 launch
2. You make more posts on GAF jizzing about the game than you did RR6
3. You physically come to Japan on the day before launch and manage to talk Sho Nuff into allowing you to stay at his place until for a couple of days
4. You buy a PS3 and the racing game you jizzed over
5. If a wheel is available on launch day and you have done 1-4 I will personally go with you to Yodobashi in Shibuya and buy the nicest one for you!

3 might be the toughest part...I'm not sure if Sho will let you anywhere near his apartment!

That ddksanrokumaru guy is a fucking asshole. Hi isamu. :)
Who are you and what are you trying to do here?

wait... what?

there are actually people that think the DFP will not work with the PS3? :lol

Every PS1 controller worked with the PS2 (the only exception being the multi-tap).

Hell GT3/4 even support the PC version of the original DF. They are the same thing of course, but the could of been dicks and made it so you had to buy the PS2 version.

It comes down to racing devs adding the driver into the game. And let me just tell you, any racing dev that refuses to add support for the best wheel avalible for consoles can go fuck themselves. They will not be getting any of my money.

Flo - There's a good chance of there being a good racing game and a wheel at PS3 launch. However, there's a better chance of Isamu jizzing over the game for months and not even buying it. :)
