Top Chef: Seattle - Season 10

His rant about the pickles in that final showdown was so terrible. He basically said that he could have been a bigger douche than he already was so she should be grateful that he wasn't...what? Good riddance.

I don't even understand why he felt that he owned the pickles. Wouldn't they be there for both contestants to use? Unless there is some strange editing going on, I really don't get why he felt that it was gracious for him to share something that both contestants were supposed to use.

These shows all do the same thing.. they have the ingredients out, but they generally don't bar the contestants from hogging the ingredients. And outside of certain challenges (or entire shows like Chopped) even the "essential" items are often "shared".. and can be "hogged" or completely used up by one contestant.

And they often obviously PURPOSEFULLY limit the ingredients.. 2 contestants but 1 jar of pickles.. and if he really wanted too, he could have used the pickles then dumped them in the trash.

But if he did that.. and she even did something remotely "creative" like found something else "pickled" in the fridge to use.. he'd have 100% been sunk.. the judges wouldn't take kindly to his strategy, etc.

They allow you to be a complete douche during the competition parts.. but the judges can take into account your behavior.

As I've mentioned before.. I was at one of the "Central Market" filmings.. and as far as I could tell it was down to only a couple of contestants.. I walked through the entire store but actually only saw them filming ONE person, which was in fact Kristen. After I stood near Kristen picking out some cheese, the camera crew then said what I heard as "Lindsay is in produce" and ran towards that direction.. Most likely I heard wrong, and it was Lizzie.

So based on my experience at Central Market.. the lack of chefs around, etc.. it was down to 2-3 contestants.. and Kristen was definitely one, and Lizzie was another.

I'm actually pretty glad to hear that. Since I've been a fan of
Lizzie for a while due to her sexy South African accent. And even more so after the most recent episode with her owning John and "kicking his bum."
I hate how Josh thinks he feels "redeemed" himself by making a good pork dish after flopping twice in the previous challenges when he's the self-appointed pork guy. And him trash talking John continuously was immature as fuck, regardless of what John may or may not have done.

Last nights episode was almost PAINFUL to watch.

John didn't bug me too much this season compared to his obnoxious "haters".. (man Josh is such a child, how embarrassing to act so petty on TV) but that exit interview.. holy shit.. him going on and on about how he could have taken all of the pickles.. as if he would have won doing that.. terrible.

SPOILER THAT SHIT.

Oh wait, you did. I DIDN'T EXPECT A REAL SPOILER.

SPOILER THAT SHIT.

Oh wait, you did. I DIDN'T EXPECT A REAL SPOILER.

Well it's POSSIBLE that the "spoiler" had already occurred.. but the 2 "Central Market" segments I've seen on the aired episodes had numerous contestants roaming around the store.. which isn't what I witnessed.. there just weren't that many cameras at all.

And from memory, the person who I saw wasn't wearing exactly what I saw on either episode.. granted they wear almost the same damn thing every day, but I distinctly remember colors that I didn't see on either episode.

I got the impression I was witnessing a very late in the game filming of the show.. and based on the timing of rumors surrounding Seattle area shoots.. and when I was at CM witnessing a filming.. it would have been in the last week or 2 of their filming schedule.

It's also possible my memory is slightly failing me about the clothing colors.. and/or I just somehow managed to only see 1 person being filmed despite my trip to the store involving walking through most of it.

I added an extra sentence to my post pre-spoiler though.. I actually thought as I typed that up "I wonder if people won't realize I actually might have spoiler info".. lol. But you also could have stopped after the first sentence ;) (I know you are mostly fucking around)

Can you guys imagine if the top 3 turn out to be the Kristen, Brooke, and Lizzie? That would be awesome. I do like Sheldon and Micah, but Kristen and Brooke have been the most consistent chefs so far I think. Hopefully Josh and Josie go home next.

That's pretty much how I think it should go also. Although, I do like Sheldon more than Micah. Micah is pretty solid, but never really WOWS me. Kristen is pretty far and away the front runner.

I'm actually really looking forward to last chance kitchen to see who will come back - I think CJ really belongs there towards the end. Although he takes LOTS of risks, so you never know.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. And yeah, if he didn't share, I imagine he would have still gone home.

That cook off with Lizzie was cringe inducing. John has some personality issues.

They must not film too far in advance, because whoever wins the save a chef vote gets to compete in the last chance kitchen finale which the winner of that, I presume, is placed back into the game at some point. So the game could only have progressed so far. Anyone know off-hand how many last chance kitchen rounds there were in the past and at what point did the winner come back to play?

actually TOP CHEF doesn't take into account the behaviour in the kitchen and they demonstrated this in heather vs beverly. and in numerous instances in the past. And they've talked about it. Tom couldn't care if they acted like asses. That's part of the show. But it doesn't lend into the judges table. They could probably disqualify john but if you table food, they probably won't want to talk about behaviour.

I did laugh when lizzie's talking head about the dill about john using it all; and wanting to knock him outta the competition "on his bum". so when he did go, it was a bit like lol.

this years LCK winner goes into the finale.

I like Sheldon the best, but i think he's a long shot to win it.

I think out of the male cheftestants, most of us like Sheldon the best because he seems to be the nicest one out of the group that doesn't seem to have an abrasive or quirky personality. The guy just seems like a genuine nice and chill dude.

I just don't think it's as black and white as "doesn't take into account the behavior."

I know it's a "Game Show" that is supposed to have legit straightforward rules and judging criteria.. (for instance, the judges can't speak to the contestants off camera).

But I think sabotage is a slightly different topic.. I definitely over-stated in my post how the judges take into account douchebaggery.. if anything, they might error on the side of keeping douchebags around longer than they deserve as it's "good TV".. but outright anti-competitive behavior like "stealing all of the pickles in a challenge involving pickles?"

I dunno.. I can't help but think they'd actually give Lizzie a pass on that, and while it might not be a negative for John, it could turn out as a positive for Lizzie.. having "overcome" an extra challenge.

It's certainly accurate to say: John was not correct in stating he would have won simply by stealing the pickles.

For the first time, i feel like the final could be all females.

None of the male chefs are stepping up at all.

Wow, sharing pickles for a challenge where pickles have to be used is NOT some great humble move; it's what is expected from any normal person. What a delusional asshole :P

Also I want Sheldon, Kristen, and Brooke to be the final three. But an all female final three would be pretty kick-ass too, just as long as Josie isn't one of them.

So seeing how much ass Kristen is kicking; I looked up where she cooks in Boston. Its not a restaurant. Its a professional kitchen used for instructional classes. That's pretty awesome. And to think she initially modeled and then went into cooking; she's only been doing this for a little while.

She may be looking to open her own place after her run this season.

Thank you, Top Chef gods. Thank you so very much.

Fuck John. What a psychopath.

Swap out Sheldon with Lizzie and you've got my favorite three. This was the first time Lizzie has been on the bottom, and she got screwed pretty badly by Whole Foods (which definitely isn't the first time that a cheftestant has gotten fucked over by a shitty protein from that place).

Kristen and Brooke deserve to be in the finale for sure, but I think they might slip a male chef in there just for balance, though I'm not sure who fully deserves the place at this point. Maybe Sheldon? We can't disregard CJ tearing it up in LCK either, so he might be coming back.

They actually shopped at Central Market; which is two and a half miles away from my house. I shop there every once and a while. They're not that bad.

Sheldon is a nice enough guy on the show, but he's very middle of the pack as a cook with these guys. And i don't see anything coming from him. He might be a gaf fav, but mikah/stefan seem to be much better male cooks.

Was definitely wholefoods for that episode.

Nope. That's Shoreline Central market.

I buy Seafood from that same gray haired butcher 2-3 times a week. I'm going to give him some shit next time I see him. He's a funny guy. I can see the sign for the store from my kitchen window.

I was surprised they sold "off" product, but it happens I guess.

Huh? I'm not sure. Here's the standings as of this week ripped off from Wikipedia:

Sheldon's had two lows but he's been in the top 3 times with two QF wins, though they were team based.

Right now I would be fine with Kristen, Sheldon, or Brooke. Even Stefan since he got screwed in his season when he should won over fucking Hosea lol.

I was generally okay with John until his pickle meltdown.

Seriously, dude? You think you'd get away with literally not letting her have any pickles?

I don't think he was 100% talking about the pickle thing.

I must also be the only person who though lizzie's hamburger wasn't a hamburger. It didn't have any sort of bread. It was a chicken meatball. I would have returned it.

I did think that was a little strange and thought she was going to get dinged for that. I'm happy with the end result though since John was being such a little bitch and I wanted him to get his comeuppance.

I really need to catch up on this season of Top Chef. I haven't seen a single episode yet. Now that I've found out that this season has Jimmy Sears from Kitchen Confidential (John Tesar), I really want to see it. He was one of the more fascinating characters in the book for me, always wondered what became of him.

SPOILER ALERT: He became a tremendous, irredeemable asshole.

He's pretty much an asshole in the book. A good number of anecdotes from Kitchen Confidential were actually from Tesar's life, not Bourdain's.

I ask Bourdain about Tesar’s accusations that he cribbed experiences from Tesar’s life. “Well, yeah,” he says matter-of-factly. “I’m sure I have used his stories and put myself there. Maybe not knowingly. I have been inspired by his adventures and misadventures.

Asshole or not, he's an interesting guy.

Normally I don't care about watching the Last Chance Kitchen stuff, but I had to see if John would lose there too.
And he did indeed. lol.

I feel like
Micah may have squeaked by Josie if he hadn't made that remark about lowcal food for women.
That pretty much got him an F in the "from the heart" column.

I really hope that that despite the two concepts they went with that there is enough freedom for the other contestants that they can still pull out the win (or get sent home). I don't like it as much when it feels like one person is in charge and the rest are there for the lulz.

once again kristin, sheldon, brooke cleary the class of the bunch.
michah getting eliminated
made me so happy, because the moment i saw his concept i said the same thing tom did. why wouldn't i just go and get some great sashimi from a good sushi place. not to mention cutting it the day before and stacking it with other fish, what a fail.

lol @ tom saying to josie "maybe you can get it closer to our plate" and then her face. LOLOLOL

josie should have gone. They hated her food... and the meat was dry. Micah's review wasn't too terrible

josie is SOOOOOo gross and the most awful. Just a scourge. Even next's week preview ... she's not a team player and annoying. "its not my concept and its not my menu". hate her

kirsten winning money again and again. is AWESOME. Josh being annoyed.. is hilarious.

good episode this one.

I can't wait for next week. The preview made it seem like an absolute shit show, as Restaurant Wars usually are. I just hope Kristen or Sheldon don't get sent home, it's far too often that the hosts get sent home. Josie needs to get sent home next week, she's been one of the biggest Elimination Houdinis the show has ever had.

Good god, it better be good this time and not a freaking circus like the last one. If the chefs have to ride anywhere or shoot anything to get their ingredients, I swear...

Was going to comment on this... They went too far last season with that shit.

This was supposed to be the show that kept it legit. Chefs. Ingredients. Time Crunch and talent.

Now is a freaking circus.

Josie is just.. hard to watch.

I think I'm gonna be on next weeks episode in the background at Central Market.

They've had 3 aired episodes so far at CM and none of them seem to match what I saw.. which seems to fall right in line with
Kristen's team going there for restaurant wars shopping, while the other team goes to Uwajimaya

I was glad to see Micah go home. It's one thing to be arrogant, but it's another thing to be arrogant and not have the talent to back it up.

Hopefully Josie doesn't bring the entire team down next week. Definitely pulling for the ladies.

Micah's review wasn't too terrible

As soon as I saw Tom's expression when Micah was explaining his concept, I knew he was heading home. Tom's face says it all.
