Total Biscuit arguing for no used game sales

You're completely missing the point, why are you asking proof that ONLY the hashtags changed Sony's policies? We're not discussing about this, we are discussing about TB calling people idiots because they started a hashtag campaign, which worked because Sony not only credited it, but they even put our fellow gaffer in their presser:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=587131

And yes circlejerk, you have no arguments and you're just generalizing, I guess it's fitting for a TB fanboy.

Because the entire argument is about the hashtags and how TB insulted the people who only went as far as retweeting calling them slacktivists.

A bunch of people stood up. This guy said to sit down. Telling people to sit down is always worse than standing up, even if all standing up amounts to is getting out of your chair for a second.

Until I see this guy's plane ticket to go pass out water and aid items to protesters in Turkey, he can shut the fuck up with that guilt trip angle. If you're not a college freshman you have no excuse to use that argument. Any adult can see right through it.
No he said put in more effort than just a retweet.

I enjoyed his videos, but my opinion has soured since he came out with all of his vile opinions about this DRM stuff. I've since unsubscribed to him on YouTube and won't be watching any more of his videos.

It's not even his opinions, it's purely the way he speaks to people. What an arsehole.
The fact that he DEMANDS respect, respect is earned...

Total Biscuit makes good content but man he can really be an arrogant dick. This little tantrum he's currently throwing on twitter is really more about his refusal to admit he was wrong than anything else. And his tweet about Turkey was just ridiculous. I mean, by that logic, he shouldn't be making videos complaining about a lack of fov options in a videogame then. But apparently if it doesn't directly effect him he doesn't give a shit who it affects. I still watch his content but that's really because I've always thought of him as an arrogant dick who happens to produce good content and I'm ok with that. I don't have to like everyone's content that I consume or else I'd consume little to no videogame content.

I always thought it was weird in how anti-used game sales he is despite being so pro-"complete single player campaign Let's Play" he is.

So i was checking out some of his tweets today to see what he had to say after MS announcement(same with some from polygon staff and PA). I went and made some food, came back and refreshed, he is gaining a lot of followers out there on his twitter feed from this. So he does have some sort of audience and it is growing, that or its more people that want to yell at him.

Either way this whole ordeal with him being so damn negative towards his fellow gamer has gained him some attention and he really is feeding off it. :(

Eh, he is pretty adamant about not liking Let's Plays.

I subscribed to his YT for a few months because he covers games I'm interested in. I think his videos are mostly fine, but after I followed him on Twitter, I quickly lost interest. The way he handles people who disagree with him is often gross and petty. All this stuff has been the final nail in the coffin for me.

People sill a lot jealous with who work making game videos in youtube.
Lol that has nothing to do with it, there are good people and annoying people.

Game videos on Youtube? DO NOT WANT. I heard making game videos on Youtube takes away the fun, especially if you get big as it influences what you can play due to what gets views.

TB has to play shitty games and regurgitate news you have probably read a few days earlier on the GAF.

Nope.gif

He treats his fans and followers like shit. We are not asking him to change his stance or opinion because he is entitled to it. All i want to see is common courtesy and not the passive aggressive/talking down on people/dickish behavior he displays.

He doesn't like doing Let's Plays but he is an adamant defender of them. I was linked to some video of his defending Let's Plays in a recent thread because of Nintendo not being too high on videos doing entire campaigns.

He's always been arrogant and a huge prick, it's just that the 12 y/o kids love his stuff so he somehow is considered relevant.

I wish Nanners talked about the industry more, he seems like a genuinely nice person and it'd be nice to hear the views of someone who isn't a cynical asshole.

Had never heard of this guy until today. Don't think I'll ever be looking at anything he writes any time soon.
He makes YouTube videos. I guess he's a game journalist but not in the traditional sense

He also shit on Sega after Shining Force LPs were taken down.

He is very critic a lot of shit things Blizzard does (and other companies). But when he put disagree with one very important thing he gets a lot of hate. What don´t make sense, because you have a infinite list of other guys who really deserve to be hated.

It's not that he's just disagreeing, it's that he's acting like a pompous asshole about it.

Yup. If his job is to be a "personality" and his personality sucks, there's a problem there. He could at least work on it, but he seems to like the attention.

so is this guy angry that MS loves used games again? It's hard when everyone else admits that it's anti consumer and your the only one dancing to your own tune. I pity him.

That's not even close to what is happening.

Currently people are just hating on him because he thinks hashtags are lazy and he is responding in a dickish way on twitter. He articulates his points much better in youtube comments like this one.

I'd argue that it's hard for the common person to spread the word about something faster than with Twitter. Just because someone tweeted using a hashtag does not mean they stopped there, either. These last few years have illustrated how powerful a tool social media can be in getting the word out about something, whether it be the organization of mass protests in person, or just getting the word out about anti-consumer DRM practices in an upcoming console.

But that's the point isn't it. Fast, effort. If you want to show a company you care about an issue, you have to put some effort in. Just like "liking" a Facebook page, retweeting a hashtag does not do that.
It takes a big illogical leap to go from me saying "I believe if you want to be taken seriously you should put in some effort to show how serious you are about the issue" to "TB is anticonsumer because he doesn't believe retweeting hashtags is real activism".

I like that part of his job is to "fight consumer rights." He aint fighting for them, he's just fighting them. He does it daily. Freudian slip much.

That comment is still nonsensical garbage.
There was a very reasoned and well thought out, detailed letter, behind the NoDRM campaign, it was right on the website itself.
The retweets and the hashtags served their purpose, which was that of making volume, numbers, noise, to get the attention of people that mattered to the issue.
It worked like a charm.
Time for him to eat crow and move on.

It seems to me like he's just mad because his observation/prediction of the situation turned out to be completely wrong. This has nothing to do with his argument about used games but more with the fact that the hashtag actually did something; he was completely 100% wrong and admitting that is somehow not possible for him.

I think his arguments against used games were okay, it's his opinion. However, he should have stopped talking about the damn hashtag once it actually took off. Yes, it's Internet users protesting in a simple way but it worked. It might not be the main reason why companies did what they did but it was enough to get the message onto people's radar. Everyone from Sony who has publicly talked about this knows about the hashtag and recognized it as something they should think about.

At this point he should just shut up about it. He was wrong, it was a fine idea. I personally am very skeptical of online petitions, hashtags and things like that, but it's pretty cool that everyone united and send their message to Sony and Microsoft and that both companies actually listened to their customers, appreciated the feedback and for once didn't argue that the people complaining are just a vocal minority that doesn't represent the gaming community at all. They listened and took everyone seriously. When higher ups tell us that they value the community's response, their actions and their willingness to voice their opinion then that should be worth way more than a person making fun of people who actually achieved something. He's a popular YouTube person and I wouldn't go out and say "you know there's real work out here. You could be helping people in need but instead you sit in front of your pc and record videos for YouTube" or similar things.

The idea of YouTube as a job is at least as ridiculous as protesting via twitter, to be honest.

I think the whole used games debate is a good indication that the console video game development is on the wrong path. Developers should focus on people not wanting to sell their games rather then getting a cut from used game sales. A lot if games still go for high prices because people don't want to sell their copies. Look at Nintendo games.

He talks about his "job" as though he were appointed the position by some higher power. I love people that rate their importance by amount of followers/views, going by that logic Snookie and Jwoww are rocket scientists to Totalbiscuits car wash assistant.

Did he really compare people losing their rights in Turkey to DRM and used games? Saying that we cannot compare our small actions to big ones that fight bigger issues?

Dude I have one word for you : PERSPECTIVE! Ever heard of it?

"You make youtube videos"

Fuck, that is just beautiful.

That line made me realize what a fucking hypocrit this guy is. He's suddenly a major activist because he makes youtube videos about consumer rights and "feature complete games", but a bunch of people collectively coming together to prevent a horrible path for the industry aren't? How much more effort could it take to create a video you get paid to create compared to taking to twitter and organizing a campaign?

Wow...totalbiscuit has turned into the industry hack he always said he'd never become.

Cars cost a significant amount of labour and materials to make, and that's not even counting the R&D that went into designing it in the first place. They deserve a cut of the second hand market more than developers do. This is just developers being greedy. Nothing else.

This is a bit of a side issue, but complaining that businesses are being "greedy" within a capitalist system is a bit of a silly insult. Capitalism is based on greed and we should expect businesses to attempt to make the maximum profit possible.

Logical Fallacies are only bad to Total Biscuit when other people use them.

Many of his videos were informative, but shit this guy is way too full of himself. He's off my Youtube. Much prefer guys like AngryJoe, or Sidestrafe.

I could never stand this guy. He's so smug towards us non-internet-famous gamers hashtagging to spread a message while he talks about FOV sliders in every god damned video as if its inclusion in an option menu would end every war in history retroactively...
He is the very definition of hipocrisy if you ask me.
