Well he looked at the advertisement and realized it was all a dream. At least, thats the impression I got.

I see what your saying. In the Arnold TR he says something like "what if this is all a dream etc etc.." at the end. Im sure the movie could be taken ether way.

In the beginning of the 1990 movie he goes into the Recall machine, the RC guy walks away and they even show Arnold look like hes going under(but then the girl says they haven't inplanted it yet). While Quaid is screaming "You blew my cover, they'll kill you all!!"

In the beginning of the 2012 movie
he goes into the Recall machine and before they can do anything they pull him out of the chair. (but of course that doesnt mean shit cause he could already be in the dream.

I think
there more mind fucks in the first movie

I know nothing about the original story. I've never seen the original movie. Recall 2012 honestly wasn't that bad.
one of the best parts from the first one.. if you notice they kinda kept the jumping threw window part but Colin jumps threw normal glass

Fun movie and an enjoyable flick. If you don't worry about the first one existing and treat it as its own entry, then you will appreciate it much more. I liked it.

That's true for me. I went back and rewatched the original TR recently (6 years since i first saw it) and wasn't surprised by how much I liked it more than the remake. Confirmed my feelings that it wasn't just some cheesy film I thought was cool when I was a dumb teenager.

just watched. Had a fantastic ride. Cyberpunk the way I like it.

Watched the original eons ago, it was ok.

Kate Beckinsale.

The rest of the movie was generic in all the bad ways.

Vice versa

edit:

baffled by Beckinsale love in this thread. She was an ok villain but very cookie-cutter. Perhaps showing some human emotion would help her. The best villains are the ones we can relate to.

Watched the first film the night before going to see this... Still enjoyed it. pretty forgettable but it was a fun ride still.

so much production value... such a good art direction in the colony...

But the movie is 1 hours of non sens, bad acting and terrible lines.

pretty much this.
Although I really liked Kate in this, she was so badass :)

I know it's a popcorn flick but I could not get over the setting they made up.

First of all, I have to believe that only these two areas are unharmed from whatever chemicals floating around? Even though in case of Europe they are just a subway ride from that no-go zone? In what war would the chemicals be distributed EVERYWHERE, even in some remote south American rain forest or whatever.
Only the resistance was clever enough to build air-locks and use gas-masks?

The Fall must be the most stupid thing in a movie in a long time. Let's start with why they don't just use airplanes? WHY WHY WHY?
Ok, enough. Now let's pretend that elevator is even possible (and it isn't, there is magma everywhere. DAT temperature, DAT pressure. Mountain-sized rocks floating around hitting that stupid tunnel.), IIRC the elevator takes 17 minutes through the earth.

That's roughly 12 km / s. Top speed is actually faster because they go slightly around the core (:lol) and they are decelerating before arrival.
Apart from them casually standing ON the moving elevator like it was nothing, at that speed (and normal air pressure) that's more than enough to burn that stupid elevator up like a meteor...

And dammit Aussies, if you are afraid of an invasion and desperately seek your independence, just close that hole. DONE.

Also, those are the weakest robot soldiers ever. There is no reason they couldn't just squash a human like it was nothing. Yet our hero is punching them in the face and can wrestle with them.

Worst scene was definitely them trying to convince Quaid that he's stuck in a simulation. It worked in the original but it made NO sense here. Mostly because he was NOT alone. Yet Biel's character kinda gives up in arguing that this isn't real. It even seems like she's thinking "mh, woah, maybe I don't exist and he's just dreaming me!" :lol

sorry for the rant, overall I still enjoyed the movie for the expensive set pieces. Nice style and Deux Ex vibe city.

edit:
didn't think they would put this in (NSFW-ish):

Topless even.
Although w/o the Mars mutants it kinda makes less sense. Why would a prostitute get such implants? Oh well ;P

I just watched this. I actually like Quid/Hauser and some of the dynamics he goes through.

But there are way too many unbelievable elements, mainly Beckinsdale. She was really annoying to me, and not in a good way. Like, it seemed like she could've killed Hauser eight times but chose to wrestle with him instead, making wisecracks. And holy shit she cannot sell a wisecrack. Really bad character that tries to skate on being traditionally good-looking.

Speaking of looks, I could not tell the two white chicks apart. At the end when she took off her holograph collar, it was especially jarring, since they look almost exactly the same.

But the worst is the soundtrack. It was incredibly cheesy and often overbearing. A lighter touch would've benefited the movie and actually made it seem decent. Sound mixing was also bad, as dialogue is frequently muffled.

Why is it that Westminster is all fine and picadilly isn't?
They're about a mile apart from each other :/

Anyway I loved the futuristic designs, but other than that, pretty shallow.

I actually snuck into this movie. I don't know why I did it, I hadn't done that in like 10 years. Anyhow I wasn't enjoying it at all, so I walked out like 25-30 minutes into it. It was in the middle of some chase or something.

jessica biel and kate beckinsale are too hot for their own good. found them a distraction rather than adding to the film.

colin ferral is unfit to carry a film.

art design and effects all spectacular but ultimately wasted.

Except for the city design, which was pretty much just lifted from other Cyberpunk it was so boring.

It just felt like 2 hours of Colin Farell running away from stuff.

The extended cut was better but not much.

Would've preferred Hawke over Farrel though.

whats different about the extended cut? and i hated the design. it was so derivative. the synthetic police were pretty cool looking in a videogame cut scene kind of way. and the lens flares were everywhere. jessica biel is a terrible actress.

Did I watch an unfinished cut or something? There's a jarring disconnect between the face hologram sequence and the scenes before it. I thought I'd pressed skip on a scene or something.

If you're stuck on a plane for hours at a time, this makes a decent time-waster. Primarily for Kate Beckinsale. I swear that woman only gets hotter with age. The action is, I don't know... actiony. Never felt overly impressed with anything, though.

she looks incredible in the movie.

They are advertising a directors cut in the commercials sayins it adds like 25mins or something to the movie. Who knows.

Movie was a crappy as a remake. It was an ok action flick, but pretty forgettable.

I think that disconnect is more the fact that they tried to hard to make the "two weeks" fat chick out to be the disguise (as it was in the original) that it feels sloppy when its revealed that hes actually the asian dude (Not that it was really surprising though considering they sort of telegraph it when hes rummaging through the safety deposit box and finds the collar along with random passports, one of which happens to be the dude he chooses to disguise himself as)

In a world where the only remaining places are the UK and Australia, everyone still speaks with an American accent except one person. Why didn't Kate Beckinsale just stab him at the end while he was sleeping, instead of waking him up?

I got this on Bluray thinking it be ok. Well it's definitely OK I suppose.
Man just so underwhelming. It was cool to see Bryan Cranston but even then, just completely lacks the personality of the original. New coat of paint wasn't anywhere near enough, and really MARs was MUCH more believable than all the crazy stuff in this one.
