Pixar has always done stuff like that. Dug the dog was in Ratatouille. Nemo the fish was in Monster Inc... etc
huh.

saw the "3" poster at the theater yesterday.

Come on, we all wept like bitches at her song in 2.

I know I did.

Just looked up who the new Slinky Dog is...actually, kinda makes sense. That guy always sounded a lot like Jim Varney's Slinky Dog.

There are no words to describe my love for Hamm. Good in the first one, but SO freaking funny in TS2. "I seriously doubt he's getting this kinda mileage" <3

Ratzenberger rules. Not only in every Pixar movie, but Superman I and Empire Strikes back. He shows up in so many awesome films.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm not looking forward to this at all. Toy Story doesn't need a sequel. More importantly, Pixar aren't so creatively bankrupt so as to have to shit them out, in anticipation of a sure-fire success, like DW and the Shrek series.

Except that Toy Story already had one sequel and it was every bit as good, if not better than the original.

I've learned to stop worrying about Pixar movies. I used to, but they never let me down so I stopped.

I also hope they finally get Andy a decent console. He was still playing the snes in, like, '98

Hes going college isn't he? He should have pictures of tits in his room.

yeah, at least he has a PC, but knowing his mom it's prolly a 486

Hamm is definitely the funniest character to me. His sarcastic tone makes every line hilarious

Rex: It's the chicken man!
Buzz Lightyear: That's our guy!
Hamm: I knew there was somethin' I didn't like about that chicken.

Woody: What am I talking about? "Woody's Round-Up"! Oh, it's this great old T.V. show, and I was the star. See, look, that's me!
Hamm: This is weirdin' me out.

Hamm: Excuse me, ladies, but could any of you tell us where we might the Al of Al's Toy Barn?
Tour guide Barbie: I can help! I'm Tour Guide Barbie! Please keep your hands, arms, and accessories in the car, and no flash photogtaphy. Thank you.
Mr. Potato Head: I'm a married spud, I'm a married spud...
Hamm: Then make way for the single fellas.

Toy Story 2 was already made and was better than the original, even though both hold up well. I don't think Pixar is out to cash in on sure fire hits. Most of their movies do extremely well in the box office.

Pixar has only had one movie that let me down, and even that one (Cars) is better then 90% of the animated movies that have come out.

Toy Story 2 made me cry (cowgirl montage); Ratatouille made me cry (that first taste); Up made me cry like a baby;

Winnie the Pooh makes me cry (Christopher Robin leaving poor old pooh all alone...)

Toy Story 3 (Andy leaving the poor old toys all alone) is gonna kill me.

BTW, I love how your life situation changes how you respond to movies. Having kids makes me weak to any separation stuff like that.

Possibly the funniest line in the movie is in response to Hamm asking the "other" Buzz where he got the belt.
"Well, slotted pig, they're standard issue"

I was kinda hoping the look and feel would be updated. Idk.

Looks virtually unchanged.
Re-watch 2 and you should notice the differences in the lighting, shadows, and models in 3. Re-working the art style is just unnecessary though, you'd lose the charm of the originals.

Buzz needs action.

Wow, when you pause it like that and focus on how the character blend with the background, Toy Story 2 doesn't look that good at all.:lol

Fuck, nostalgia attack.

I remember the Toy Story games pretty clearly, especially Toy Story 2 on the PS1. Shit was awesome.

I love the look of this, but after watching the trailer again...

...where the hell is Bo-Peep?

I guess I mis-worded my post, even though my meaning should have been obvious considering the topic of this thread, ffs. I meant another sequel. It didn't need the first one, but it ended up okay. However decent this third one will be, I'd still wish for something original or at the very least something not already done twice before.

I see what you're saying, but TS2 is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's absolutely hilarious and just fires on all cylinders the whole way through.

So while possibly unnecessary, I'm glad they made it. We'll see how this one turns out.

Comparison images*

The lighting/shadowing has improved greatly from 2 to 3. Now if the only nail the near photorealistic backgrounds of ratatouille...

If i remember rightly, 2 was a rush job and no-near the quality Pixar was at the time. This was because Disney were desperate for another sequel and were working on their own that was going straight to video and didn't have any of the original cast. Pixar hated it and said if they destroy everything they'd develop the film themselves. I think this was like a year and a half before the film came out whereas the first film had 4 years of production. I think its pretty much the same situation with Toy Story 3. Sometimes when i watch it in certain scenes it looks like a step down from Toy Story 1.

Actually, i think it went down more like, Pixar was fulfilling a 3 film contract for disney and Disney wanted TS2 to go to video. Disney checked in on their progress and was blown away at how well TS2 was for a straight to video release, so they asked Pixar to add some more to it (it was only 60 minutes originally) and prep it for theatrical release. I think the most obvious "padding" (altho i love all of it) is the completely unnecessary opening sequence with Buzz fighting his nemesis in a video game (on a SNES console, no less:lol ).

This would later lead to a dispute when Disney didn't want to include TS2 as part of the 3 film agreement since it was supposed to be DTV, while Pixar definitely wanted to include it in that agreement.

That's how I remember it, but I'm a lil fuzzy.

You're probably right, what i'm talking about was from a Steve Jobs documentary i saw a while ago, but i'm sure there was something else hinky in the way the film was developed. The stuff about the first film, being made "mature" and Woody being condescending to the other toys was also hilarious

Yep, that's how I remembered it too. About Toy Story 3 ... When Pixar wanted to get out of the Disney agreement, Disney went ahead with their own Toy Story 3 since they owned the rights to the characters. When Steve Jobs sold Pixar to Disney, John Lasseter became the new head of the Disney animation department and put a stop to Disney's Toy Story 3. In May 2006 they announced Pixar was doing Toy Story by themselves.

Andy must have OCD. How the fuck are his toys still shiny, spotless and new?

edit: And didn't Woody have a shitty stitch job on his arm (performed by Andy) at the end of 2?

You can see one arms still stitched as opposed to the other:

They must have called the creepy toy repair guy and fixed him up or something. Woody's stitched arm was like Hulk's at the end (which impressed Bo Peep).

I believe it was Disney arguing that sequels didn't apply to the original contract, not anything to do with its DTV origins.

Floyd Norman wrote a long account of his experience on Toy Story 2. The film was essentially restarted 3 times, including a last time right at the start of 1999. He glosses over a few details which is curious, like he only mentions Ash Brannon and never Lee Unkrich, and for that matter he doesn't refer to Lasseter as the director of the project at any time. Still, it's a good read that delves into a couple scrapped characters and how draining the production was.

And how is that opening sequence unnecessary? It sets up Buzz's new abilities, Zurg and a dozen great gags about Rex trying to defeat him.

in terms of the overall plot, it feels extraneous. In it's final incarnation, it makes sense and it is wonderfully done, but if I were to imagine a portion of the film that seems like it could easily be cut, it'd be the opener.

Even if I do love how Buzz is fucking blown to bits.:lol :lol

People seem to forget that the Toys seem to know how to maintain themselves and have weekly Plastic Corrosion Awareness meetings.
