Traffic school to remove a ticket from your record?

A few days ago I get pulled over for going 40 in a 20, which in my opinion is absolute crap, because I had just entered the zone from a 45 and was slowing down. It's actually my first ticket. I've been pulled before but managed to get off with a warning. In the middle of the cop going on about me being reckless and a bunch of other condescending stuff, he gets to my options. Pay the ticket, contest it in court, etc. He also mentions that if I attend a 4 hour driving class I could get the ticket removed from my record, and my rates won't go up. This seems kind of interesting.

Has anyone ever taken one of these? Would you recommend it? What should I expect?

Of course people have taken them, yes we would recommend it, expect to be incredibly bored and to discover nothing of interest, no this wasn't worthy of a thread.

Of course I recommend it.. you just tick the box on the ticket, pay for it and go to class. I was able to do it online once which was sweet.

I took it online. Long as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, and you have to be next to your computer the whole time.

Easy though and comfortable with a drink or other entertainment.

I could have contested the ticket, but I really did fly by an unmarked car :\ I figured it was just another old person slowing down everybody else. The car behind me was flying as well!

Expect a lot of crappy videos about people driving badly, some work sheets and if you're really lucky you get a speech from some dude in a wheel chair (who I swear I saw walking around at the mall later in the week) who used to "street race" and this is what happens if you speed!

Seriously? There's a thread about Montana looking like a face on the main page right now.

Edit: So basically this is just a long driver's ed class, with no test? That seems simple enough.

My dad just did the online thing yesterday, he said it took about 3 hours or so and it cost $20. Idiot got pulled over in Jean, NV for doing 95.

I know! It's pretty fucking weird. I'm gonna go look at it again!

Take the class. There is no excuse not to as your rates will be hit hard otherwise and the costs is usually cheaper.

Pretty sure I remember there being a test. And if you can't pass it, they let you retry it then and there.

I had to go to traffic school once. We got a worksheet that we had to fill out, but the instructor mainly just encouraged us to doodle on the back of it. She spent like the whole first hour showing us her favorite drawings people had given her :lol

I vote no, because 4 hours of your time isn't worth not having a point added to your record and your insurance rate not going up.

Remember that episode of King of the Hill where <ridiculous thing happens>? That shit is real.

Fixed.

And dude, fight the ticket.
Trial by written declaration, then if you lose, trial de novo.

Anyone who just pays a speeding ticket without contesting it is a fool in my book.

you do know you still have to pay the ticket right? the class just "masks" it from your record. its still there. just no points. and taking a day off of work to fight a ticket is just a wash for some people. especially if you only really "win" if the cop doesnt show up.

Yeah, it's pretty dull. I went to one for driving over a woman on a bike, and it's basically six hours of you sitting there watching tapes about 'defensive driving.'

I've taken it twice on the Internet. I'm in the San Diego Superior Court District.

Pick one that mails your certificate to your court, no hassles.

Trial be written declaration.
You send the payment, a request for trial by written declaration, then you send your statement about what happened.

The cop has X amount of time to reply, at which point the judge will throw out the ticket, and the court refunds the ticket fee.

The cop will not reply 90% of the time.

In the event that the cop does reply, the judge then looks at both statements and decides whether or not you're guilty.

In the event that you're guilty, you simply request a trial de novo, which is basically a new trial, but this time actually at the court house. A date will be set, and if it doesn't work for your schedule, you can request a rescheduling.

90% of the time the cop won't show up to the actual trial.

Speeding tickets are very easy to fight. They are nothing but easy revenue for cities, and unless your cop is Dudley Do Right, you can get out of it pretty easily 99% of the time.
